i own all of the BG games but when I went to unzip the Tiller 32bit patches I get a map read error when I open a new scenareo.

Are there other patches somewhere that I need to apply? I loaded the game fresh from the original CD.

Yes, you have to apply the official patches first. I think you will find most on this page http://grognard.com/patch.html . If any are missing make a websearch.
