In your opinion, who is the best running back in the CFL at this time?

Please select one player.

If "Other Player" is selected, please indicate which player that would be.

Comments are welcome.

Charles Roberts, of course. But Avery is a close second.

I agree with CR. He's been so good for so long, he has to be the choice. Joe Smith is a beast, though.

Joe Smith had the better season in 2007, but Charles Roberts has been destroying the CFL for years. Is Joe the real deal, or is he just a flash.

Joffrey Reynolds has had incredible yards per carry over the last few seasons. If he had more carries and more touches near the goal line, his stats would be much better.

That's a tough one.

lumsden will be the best. he's as fast as any running back and built like a tight end. just wait till he's healthy for a full season

They were talking about Lumsden on CBC and they said he's the type of running back that could always get injured. That's because of his running style. Notice how Lumsden is a standing running back, meaning he runs basically standing up while other running backs usually crouch down. Lumsden's running style is easier to hit and unfortunately to injure. But he's one heck of an exciting running back to watch.

Upright running backs tend to get banged up, because they take more hits, and bigger hits. Look at Fred Taylor in the NFL...yes, the guy has had a terrific career, but he also missed a TON of games with injuries, because he took a lot of killshots.

I don't care about running upright. When he's healthy, there's no better back in the CFL than Jesse Lumsden

Is the Robert Edwards for Toronto the same one that was with the Pats and blew out his knee after his rookie season?

Yes.

He rushed for 1115 yards his rookie season for the Patriots.

He then absolutely totaled his knee...to the extent that, after multiple surgeries, he was at one point about 36 hours away from an amputation if full circulation wasn't restored. Luckily for him, it was. He's played for the past few years in Montreal, but with Jarret Payton establishing himself there, he moved on to Toronto this year.

brock : I like Jesse, but I wouldn't take him over Joe Smith at this point.

Avery?  Why would he be a close second?  He hasn't has a breakout season, and he can't hold onto the rock.
