I recently began to encounter Fatal Error 999 when trying to open Witp. The message comes up and then the game closes. I tried reinstalling the game and updates, but get a message saying tat an unnamed file is in use and can't be accessed (when trying to install the comprehensive update). I scanned the computer for viruses (AVG) and it tells me that I have a trojan horse PSW.Banker4.JGT virus attached to the witprec.exe file which I just downloaded for the Matrix website (in the comprehensive update). I really dont know what to do next. Any suggestions??

There's no trojan in the file (it's a false positive). The people behind AVG have been informed and will be removing the file from their threat list in a future update.

Seems that the problem has now been resolved. I just updated AVG and could start WitP with no trouble at all.

I updated my AVG 1 minute ago and all my WitP versions (stock, CHS, RHS) are working fine

I did too, but a reinstall fixed it. AVG must have removed the file the first time. I uninstalled, reinstalled, patched, updated avg and all worked fine.

Odd that it didn't ask you for permission. I got a pop-up where I could click "ignore". It didn't, but it didn't delete anything either.

It did not ask first. It put it in the vault....said it was "cleaned". I even shut down avg and got the error, so I assumed it either moved or altered the file. So, it seemed easiest to uninstall and reinstall WitP. I got the update for avg and then reinstalled WitP and all was right.

You are getting a false positive from your new antivirus program...

You have limited options:
1) If you can find out if you can direct the antivirus program to make an "exception" you can try that, but most programs don't allow it.

2) You can contact the antivirus company and explain the problem, and maybe they can fix the problem (AVG did that in one day!!)

3) You can discontinue using your current antivirus program and go to something else.

4) You can stop using WITP on your computer with that antivirus...

Really, none of these options is good, though.

Ooops - sorry i got into the wrong thread...
