I must say I've always enjoyed playing the ACW BG series but have always whished there was a map editor included with the games like the other BG series ( Eastern Front, Western Front and Rising Sun). After I found the ACWEditer on-line the only thing I was never able to do was create new maps (scenarios) with the ACW series. If John Tiller's Battleground Series ever comes out with the map editor I'm on board! Till then, I'll keep playing my old Talonsoft versions.

No map editor was ever made because the games, except for Chickamuaga were hand painted, but there certain ways to edit in East Front and then convert with a program.

1NWCG,

Thank you soooo much for the info! I will try to open the maps in EF editor and see if I can edit them and then try to open them with the BG scenario editor to save the map. I'll let you know how it goes. Again, I am very grateful for the tip.

There used to be some instructions about how to do this manually - at least for the Napoleonic maps.

Here's what I remember about it, but never having done it, I might not have the details right. It involved creating a map in East Front (for the .map file) and then manually putting together the 3D bitmap. The East front map could be used for the 2D version. The different sized maps were obtained by shrinking the main bitmap while maintaining the proportions.

I've searched quite a bit for these instructions since the series was re-released but I haven't had any success. I seem to recall that the instructions were hosted on the site run by Al Amos and Greg Gorsuch, but most of the pages on that site are no longer available.

If anyone knows where this information can be found, or has the know-how themselves, I'd be pleased if they would pass it on, as there are a couple of maps I'd like to have a go at creating myself.

Paul
