So far, I enjoy EiA. I had always wanted to play the board game, but opponent opportunities being what they were...it never happened. For my first game, post reading the rules, I chose to play GB. The game is currently in the summer of 1809 and GB leads the VP race with FR about 8% behind. FR appears to have had some bad luck, but is still a force to be reckoned with. Napoleon was captured by Blucher somewhere in the princedoms west of Prussia. I captured Murat in Sweden. Oh yes, GB owns Sweden, Norway, and Denmark and I just took Holstein which had chosen to ally with FR...silly them. France owns a chunk of northern Italy, where Spain controls 4 a small portion. Central and Southern Italy are still minors and unattached to any major power. France decided to lose every Lt and Hvy ship one stack at a time in sorties from Brittany. Not more than one stack ventured forth at a time and while nearly the entire GB fleet and Nelson waiting off the coast, it was fairly easy. I lost 4 lt ships total. France's "navy" now consists of transports only. GB has all its corps out and maxed in strength. I've about 25 more infantry in garrisons, to top up attrited corps. My trade initial was an on again off again affair, with the trade being turned off almost every turn, I have no idea why. At least it has stabilized and has stayed on for about 3 years now. I just lost Prussia and Austria as allies...I don't know why, but they don't show up. Yes, there's a text message window, but it is too small and I have to scroll down each item...it would be nice to have a better way to keep track of important events...like losing an ally. I am thinking of taking 3 infantry corps and my cav corps to Italy. I've 24 factors in 2 corps in Holstein, just in case the FR get frisky and blow past some PR lands to get to me. I've not made Denmark or Sweden Free States as yet. I don't know if it's worth it to me to access their troops or not, instead of just gaining the additional income they provide. France has 4 corps just outside Paris and the remaining corps spread out across the minors west of PR and AU. I figure I can swoop down, snap up Corsica and Sardinia and use that as a base to jump off and take Italy and from there move into Southern France. Overall, I am having fun. I considered DOW on Spain, but they have a lot of strength sitting in Portugal and their entire fleet outside Gibraltar. I don't know that I want to throw away strength for no real purpose. Should I give Free State status to Sweden and Denmark? Should I just wait out the rest of the land war, keeping my forces in GB. Or does my Italian excursion sound reasonable?
