Hi there,

I just encountered a strange Channel crossing manouver by the French.

I'm playing GB. And to prevent the french from jumping onto my island, I positioned a light fleet (with 1 light ship in it) in the Channel. The rules say that an enemy fleet in a sea area forbids a corps to cross that sea area.

So I was very surprised to see a french corps jumping the Channel and startig a sight seeing trip in London...

Is this a bug or isn't a single ship in a light fleet enough to block a sea crossing arrow?

Greetings

Patrick

This should be blocked. Tell me what area the light fleet is in...

The fleet is located in the very same sea area that has the crossing arrow in it.

Glad someone reported this as I had the very same thing happen and was on my way here to address it.

In my case, an entire army, 5 corps, 4 infantry 1 cav, made that crossing in front of 3 heavy fleets of frigates and 3 lights. Same sea zone, the one between GB and FR, the FR landed on the southernmost coast of GB, they had to have had rowed right past the british armada.

Ballsy move by Davout I'll have to say :)

Have had this happen again, seems that the fleets will only prevent a crossing when/if there is no fleet counter in the blockade box.  Having a fleet in the sea zone doesn't seem to make any difference.  I've had French Corps under Davout twice now land on English Soil and the only port not being watched along the entire French coast is Cherbourg.  There were however 2 Lt Fleets in that sea zone and the 2 adjacent.  No attempt was made to intercept any transports or fleets coming out of Cherbourg.

I had Davout cross the straits as well.  When I checked into the location of my blocking fleet I found out to my dismay that it was in the blockade box for one of the cities (Cherbourg?) not in the actual sea zone.  This is very hard to tell just by looking at the map.  Since I fixed my fleets location I haven't had anymore problems.

I would echo Nalamin on this. If you have a box in the upper right corner of your counter you are in a blockade box not at sea. I had the Brits cross over to me once doing this (game I captured Nelson).

OK. Thanks, guys. Problem solved. I just checked it and found that my fleet happened to be located in the Cherbourg blocade box.

i just don't know how it came there....

Hey guys:

We did run low on room in the channel! BIG SHIPS, many cities and a little channel made it tough so double check your ship locations or else you could end up speaking French in London or English in Paris :-)

Yep, ships were in the blockade box not the channel

Tested it late last night and that was the case.

Marshall, a little side question.  Why is it there are not certain requests that can be made of computer run allies?  I.e. "Request Military Movement access".  Or better yet, anything you give your ally, automatically is given to you.

You can actually dbl-click on the map during the diplomacy phase and an AI dialog box will popup. This box allows you to ask for several items from an ally (Money, land, an attack a defense). Have you tried this?

yes I've done that and found (finally) the request access button you so kindly pointed out.  I guess Arrows on a box at 0300 in the morning aren't getting through the fog of lack of sleep
