SU/China, Summer '40: Still not much to do.

Turn sent to MrQuiet.

P.S. Sorry for the slight delay, I'm not at home right now.

One more thing: Is it normal for Germany to get "attack help" bonus points on the dice rolls when fighting against neutrals like Yugoslavia or Norway? The combat reports showed such bonuses for Sandemans troops, but I never saw that before.

After you mentioned this I checked and indeed there was attack help modifiers in the battles against the neutrals.
I looked in the game settings and no attack help is set up in there but I did notice the difficulty was set to 'easy' and possibly this applies to battles vs neautrals.

Of the Neutral battles from last turn the attack help made no difference in what the battle results would have been from what I could tell.

Ok, WA Summer40

The Germans had sent there FJ on up to Norway to rattle some cages and stake a claim on the peaceful neutral nation. With no German reinforcements sent in to help quell the population the WA was called upon to help liberate the people before any more real damage could be done. FJ was pushed into a corner and destroyed with no escape route.

Norway has be re-fortified and the Allies are cranking out lots of war machines to put an end to Axis aggression.

That was my guess as well, but I wondered why Germany got +1 and +2 bonuses while the defending unit usually had -1. Or is attack help doubled for bombardment attacks (before the final doubling)?

Correct me if I am wrong but when Russia, WA are attacked for the first time, they have to face the surprise rule penalty, or the Axis powers enjoy a free shot almost, respectively. Maybe the other neutral Nations are falling under the same rule? (Except that the first battle is in most cases the last) I looked into the rules but did not find a reference to that so I is just a guess... I would be surprised that the EASY setting would be applied towards the neutrals in an PBEM.

Germany Fa'40

Sub war is still dismal...my elite u-boat finally took a hit from a transport MrQ caught me unprepared in Norway, however it did cost him a few destroyed transports afterward.

It seems odd that the difficulty setting could impact combat vs neutrals in PBEM, if that's the case we'll have to remember to make sure it's always on normal. I never considered it would be a factor when starting up the game...

Fall 1940 - Japan's glorious Airforce succeeded to torch another Chinese factory despite heavy AA with no losses. It was noticed WA seem to be interested in Japan's secrets...

IIRC, the "Surprise Rule" affects any FROZEN region......neutrals qualify.

Yougo and Norway are not frozen.
Surprise Rule does not effect neutrals.

I never noticed any combat help in any other pbem.
I am still guessing it is the 'easy' setting in the game settings.

It's not the "frozen" rule, it's "combat help" which you normally set up in the game settings.

As long as it occurs only against neutrals, I don't think it's much of an issue.

GE Spr '41

Well what started out as a great barbarossa took a turn for the worse real fast. Noticing a sizable army in E.Poland, OKW decided that it must be surrounded and eliminated. Kiev fell in a surprise attack, with Belorussia not offering much resistance. Then, with a 99% chance of success and expected losses at ~4 for attacker and 10 for defender, this happened...

On the bright side, the Soviet army has been hurt badly, but it took us two attacks to finish off Poland and losses were high

The Brits are lurking in the Med likely planning mischief

China still has a few troops but without industry and internal supply generation they will not pose a threat.

Germany Su'41

The Wehrmacht pushes east further into Russia, destroying many militia units and again torching Russian factories. Lack of supply, however, is a hindrance to our advance. While MrQ is the victim of autohits, I'm plagued by bombard evasion 1 rolls this turn...losing 2 HBs.

Here's the map of Europe at this point...

Germany Fall '41

Germany takes it easy on the eastern front... seeing how cold it is getting over there. Also of note is that it is only Fall'41 yet Soviet infantry is already as good as ours at 6ev 7Atk

UBoats have some success taking out a transport and a destroyer.

WA Fall41

Pesky Uboat in the Atlantic attacked over and over with no results.
Hopefully the USA will join in the hunt for Uboats soon.

Germany has persuaded Finland to join there hopeless cause last turn so in retaliation it has been decided by the free world Sweden should be denied the same opportunity Finland had.

Allies have become comfortable with invasion of any nation who supplys the enemy.

Italian Ports are struck yet again with good results although Italian Flack found its mark vs allied fighter groups.

Uboats again hit allied convoys while they waste supplies chasing us. Our Eastern front troops, however, were not properly prepared for a winter campaign and therefore pull back slightly to refit.

British agression against Sweden will be repaid in full when the Spring comes...
