I was wondering if the impossible mode is extremely tuff; unlike so many other here, my abilities to beat the AI are not as stellar.

That (impossible mode) can be a challenge. I hope you won't mind much if I "broken record" you with this:
Try a few Play By E-Mail (PBEM) games against other humans...........you're sure to have outrageous fun and learn a heck of a lot.

Perhaps after doing so for a while, you won't be so intimidated by the "Impossible" level.

PS: (more likely, you just won't want to play the AI anymore
