As a new player playing B-mans mod, what would the veterans recommend as the best alternatives for approaching research?

I personally recommend capturing a live x-com alien and researching it as soon as you have an alien containment facility to open up that branch of the tree.� I usually go for laser weapons also then it just depends on what I need at the time.

Oh, if you don't know which ones are x-com aliens---they are the ones that have kinda blurry graphics.

How do you ID Alien Leaders (They were green Vipons in the orginal game)?

xcom aliens don't have commanders. Any live xcom alien will work. Only regular UFOET aliens require commanders for research. Regular UFOET aliens will have a gold border around the little alien head status icon if it is a commander.
