Another 120,000 troops of the SAA are making their way towards Java from Singapore.


IJNAF AC continue to hammer the airfields on Java.

Meanwhile, the assault transports covered by KB West on the south coast of Java have completed their diversion and are now located off the SW tip of the island....they will begin to assault ports on the south coast of Sumatra tomorrow.

I'm sure that you know that, but dont rush with capturing raw materials bases. Bomb them from air, land and sea at least for a week, and maximise your chances for capturing them intact (or relativly intact).

Well, you are doing more than just following my footsteps. Bonsai!

Status: offline 		Thanks pauk. Yeah I have had 3 bombardment TFs working over Palembang for the last 3 weeks. In this CHS variant Palembang has 1200 oil points...more than one half of Japan's requirements so the die roll I get here when its captured will be critical. And you are correct.....resources seem to be more of a choke point for the Japanese economy than oil is in this CHS variant.




JANUARY 20TH, 1942


The arrival of Sallys at the just enlarged level 4 airfield at Bandjermasin has completed Japanese dominance of the air over Java. Bombur has withdrawn his battered fighter groups and perhaps less than a dozen bombers remain on Java.


The 35th Brigade, 56th Brigade, 3 SNLF regiments and 16th Naval Guards are now ashore at Kragen. 6 SAA divisions, armor and artillery are in transit on the Java Sea and should arrive in Kragen in the next 3-4 days.

KB West covers landings on Sumatra at Benkolen.

Naval troops storm ashore at Aitape on New Guinea.

Manila and Bataan have been subjected to daily artillery and aerial bombardment attacks for all of January. Botanko Heavy artillery regiment is on the way to Manila.....I want to see what the 240mm guns can do to defenders entrenched in an urban defense.

No shortage of action today as the Allies face an unparalleled series of disasters from the Philippines to Australia to the Central Pacific.



CENTRAL PACIFIC:

I knew that if I withdrew KB from the Central Pacific for a couple of months to cover operations in the DEI and India that I would be leaving myself wide open for Bombur to counterattack my island bases in the Pacific. I had no idea however that he would begin his counteroffensive in January 1942!

Elements of the US Army 25th Infantry Division were landed on Palmyra today by a Fast Transport convoy of DDs. Dont know how they got there without being spotted by my Mavis patrols or my Nells but the 2nd Coastal Defense Regiment was there to provide a warm reception:

PRODUCTION REVISITED: Part 2

Naval Shipyards produce 1257 points per day with a current reserve of 726 points and a deficit of 15 points per day. CV Junyo will arrive in 18 days and that will free up 100 Naval Shipyard points but I will still need to increase shipyards by abother 40-50 points if I want to restart production of BB Musashi.

CVE Unyo will arrive in 40 days and CV Hiyo in 63 days.

Merchant shipyards were left stock...1005 points per day. We now have a merchant reserve of 2786 points with a surplus of 19 points per day.

On Java, Bandoeng is captured and a final bombardment is fired at Soerabaja before another deliberate assault is ordered for tomorrow.



On Sumatra, Kuala is captured and the twin Japanese thrusts close in on the final Allied pocket at Medan.

At Palembang, the 4th and 33rd Divisions complete loading and shove off towards Ceylon. The assault TFs will rendezvous with the surface TFs and replenishment/supply /support TFs at Johore Bharu tomorrow. The advance across the Andaman Sea will be covered by KB West.....currently off the NW tip of Sumatra.

KB East will be a bit late to the party.....Bombur made a final attempt to evacuate his damaged shipping from Soerabaja as its capitulation is imminent and the Indian Ocean is now full of targets for the IJN CVs:

The Ceylon invasion force approaches within 420 miles of Trincomcalee. Kates will bomb the port installations there for the next 2 days and the bombardment TFs will start pounding the invasion beaches the day after tomorrow. The IJA troops will storm ashore in 3 days.





DEI:

6 SAA divisions continue their march across Java towards Batavia. Batavia itself should be invested in about 4-5 days.



PHILIPPINES:

The Botanko gun regiment finally reaches Manila. After a couple more days of bombardment another assault will be launched.

INVASION OF CEYLON:

Bombur had left some 30 ships in port at Trincomalee.....even though most of these ships were eventually sunk, they did a good job of absorbing the IJN naval bombardments and aerial bombardments at Trincomalee. When a shock attack was delivered on 2/10/42, a SEAC regiment has just reinforced Tincomalee and the initial Japanese assualt was repulsed. After 2 days of aerial bombardment an all out shock attack is ordered for tomorrow.

With 2 divisions and 2 tank regiments already ashore and 56th Division a couple of days out, Ceylon's days are numbered.

A6M2s are staged in for CAP along with a Mavis group....now we can patrol virtually trhe entire Arabian Sea.

Engineers, supply and fuel are immediately off loaded into Trincomalee.....ALL of KB is now here off Ceylon.....tomorrow they refuel and most of the CVs will be sent to interdict the sea lanes between Aden and Karachi. SEAC receives 7th armored and 7th AIF at Aden tomorrow and I need to make sure that they never arrive at Karachi.

EVERY unit in the SAA is now prepping for Karachi save the 3 and a half divisions at Manila. I will recon the ENTIRE coast of India and decide on the invasion location within the next week.

CEYLON:

Most of the invasion force that landed at Trincomalee is now marching across Ceylon towards Columbo. The bulk of the Combined Fleet has now massed off Trincomalee. We are still awaiting the arrival of massive supplies and fuel tomorrow so our replenished CVs can interdict the Arabian Sea and isolate Karachi.

The amphibious assault TF took some heavy losses to the 9.2" guns off Trincomalee....about half a dozen ships were sunk, 2 damaged CLs are making there way back to Singapore for repairs.....and the rest of the damaged ships are disbanded in port at Trincomalee for repairs....3 ARs are on the way to Trincomalee to help effect repairs.


PRODUCTION:

Things are looking much better for Japan by the middle of February, 1942. Our supply levels bottomed out on 1/15/42 at 2.13 mil.....now they are at 2.24 mil. Similarly, our fuel reached a nadir of 3.76 mil on 1/15/42 and now total 3.96 mil.....kind of surprising when you consider all the fuel currently in transit to Ceylon for the India invasion.

Our A6M2 pool was approaching 300 AC so most of the Zero production was halted and Nagasaki engine production was throttled back....now we are saving 300 HI per day which should help to augment Japan's low HI reserves of 30,490 HI.

Resources now total 15,320 per day and the resource reserves have held fairly steady at 1.44 mil for the last mo. Oil is now at 2353 and oil reserves are slowly increasing at 2.84 mil now.

Naval production was at 1284 and dropping 30 per day with the naval reserves down to 233. CV Junyo had been accelerated and was due to arrive in 4 days...we will throttle back to normal production for Junyo so she will now arrive in 8 days and should now save 50 naval production points daily...enough to eliminate our deficit. CV Hiyo was also accelerated and should be available in 44 days, while CVE Unyo was accelerated and should arrive in 26 days.

Over 33,000 American and Philippino soldiers surrender and begin their march north to POW camps in central Luzon.

Except for a couple of islands in the central Philippines, the last Allies are down to their final redoubt in the PI....2 understrength Philippino divisions at Lamon Bay....13,000 troops in total. Now Japan's 1700 AV at Manila is released for future offensive operations. 2nd Division, a tank regiment, a naval guard and a mortar battalion are ordered to assist in the mop up operation at Lamon Bay. The rest of the IJA formations at Manila will prep for Calcutta....they will eventually form the northern army in our India operation to seal off and then capture Calcutta...while the main army(now in transit to India) heads straight to Karachi. For now, they R&R at the Manila Marriott, while they wait for MSWs to sweep the harbor.

Transports will begin loading the troops at Columbo tomorrow for the invasion of India. Recon AC have been flying for several days to determine the best landing beaches for the invasion. The plans for CASE BLACK....the invasion of India.....will be finalized in a couple of days.

The US 24th and 25th Divisions remain pinned on the beach at Palmyra...I think that Bombur needs to bring up some more supply before he can resume the ground attacks.
