Can I ever win a roll and gev France?  Amazing how bids differ from one game to the next.  In a couple of my games, Russia has high bids, and in others, including this one, I could have gotten her for much less.  I have my work cut out for me now.

I find that if you want to get what you want you should lower your expectations....See I got Spain that way

I have created a yahoo group for storage of files, group communication, etc:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/sharpes_marshals/

All players should join, and anyone else interested in following the game is welcome as well.

I have sent out the initial game file, let me know anyone who doesn't have it.

We are up to setup -- Russia first.

I know what you mean....I looked at bids from other games last time and big 28 for France thinking it'd be competitive...There were 3 '30s' bid. This time I decided to stop being 'smart' and trying to save a few points.

I normally would have bit higher for Russia, but that's who I ended up with in that game, so I wanted something different. Surprising nobody else bid much for it...Maybe they all knew there'd be a mad Turk ready to rampage on the border :)

If I want France I guess that others are bidding 30 for it and I bid 31.

If I want GB I guess that others are bidding 20 for it and I bid 21.

It's surprising how often this strategy is effective. One day the people I game with will start bidding 32 and 22 and it will all come unravelled, but until then it works for me.

I am not normally interested in playing Russia, Spain, or Turkey. I like to be in the middle of things. I quite like Prussia but won't pay more than 10 for it, and ditto for Austria.

GAP program will not allow any bids higher than 30, to prevent people from bidding too high just to get the country they want, and ruining the game.

We started a F2F game once, where all bids were open, and we had bids of 1,000,000 for France, becasue the guy REALLY wanted to play as France.  He didn't care about winning or losing, he just wanted to be France.  And since he was not the only one that bid ridiculously high on some countries, only like 3 people had a chance of ever winning.

We had to abandon that and incorporate bidding rules.

As an FYI to anyone following our game, it did not translate that Spain and Russia are at war with Turkey. Is GAP suppose to handle that or would the person that set the game up configure pre-existing wars somehow?

Russia has done Setup and we are waiting for Turkey to get a chance to do his setup.

Instead of a Yahoo group try this site:  http://myfreeforum.org/

Its MUCH MUCH better and gives you better control.

Did the host manually add the results from the GAP or did he load them into EiANW using the “import bids” button? If the former then that would explain why there are no pre-existing wars, except for France and Britain.

I just ran thru a test using the same results (Spain and Russia declare on Turkey) and show it to be importing the data properly.

Richard

Okay, I think what you are saying is that the EiANW program did not write the pre-existing war information from the GAP to the status info window (except for the France and Britain pre-existing war).

Look at the Nation Status Overview (using the “Nation Statuses” button found on the top menu bar) and you should see all the pre-existing wars.

Richard

I think he manually entered the bids. It doesn't show Russia and Spain at war with Turkey. I had checked there figuring the same thing (that it did not show in the Status window since it was unusual). It's all cool. Del's first time & we are all learning:-) Now we know to make sure we import the Gap results. I am guessing that is why we didn't get passwords as well. Russia and Spain decided to let it slide in the intrest of playing.

Of course this is starting to look bad for Austria now that we have Turkey's Setup and no wars against the Turks...

Thanks again Richard!

I have offered to re-import the bid file and restart the game if either Spain or Russia decide they want me to do it. So far neither have protested.

Yes, I did enter the bids manually, I didn't see the GAP file attachment when I opened the thread the first time.

I can handle the missed war, it really doesn't matter.  However, I also noticed that we do not have to use a password.  Only game I am in where I don't need one.  Hopefully this will not be a problem.
