Looking at how much fun the 9 player diplomacy game is going to be, just wondering if anyone else would be interested in starting one?

Anyone up for this?

I'd like to play, but I won't be able to until the 29th due to several other commitments. If you're still pulling this together at that point in time, count me in. Otherwise, I'll have to catch the next one...

Yes, but James is pretty busy already.
First he has to kill many of my russians, march into Moscow and so on

Might be interested. Haven't played AT MP yet so I might need some help on the ins and outs of pbem-games.

Are player factions going to be random?

Did I miss anyone?

Let's kick this off after the holidays so Jam and mtvaill can participate.

That gives us time to choose sides and agree on options.

Quick question before we start. I currently use Nick's graphic mod. I ran into a problem starting a new random game with a PBEM opponent. He got error messages when trying to load, so I had to start with the default graphic settings.

Anyone know what I need to do to set this up so that myself and anyone else who have the mod can use it, but those that dont can still play?

My recommendation is to play with the options that start the game at peace, as well as the ability to make peace later. This way, everyone has a couple of turns in which to set up their defenses, and make allies (or enemies). Some of the nations have it rough enough as it is, let alone have to handle a possible onslaught by 4 others on the very first turn.

Agree with JAMiAM to start at peace. For me the "diplomacy" part is what thrills me most so I hope you guys don't want to ensue restrictions in setting up pacts or other deals (or breaking them for that matter).

Some questions:

How do we decide on what faction we all play? There are obviously some nations that are harder than others.

Any restrictions on reading possible AAR's from other factions?

I haven't played around with this scenario - is it possible to transfer PP's to another faction - If so, it could provide for some interesting deals

I agree with yoggi75 on having no restrictions with respect to diplomacy. Other than the two round breather option at the game's start, that is.

Indeed, they are. I am open to suggestions. We could have a totally random drawing. Maybe by a trusted, uninvolved source drawing names out of a hat. Like Vic...

Or, we could try some picking and choosing and seeing if there is any consensus? Or, taking a rough estimation of our various skill levels and trying to assign the tougher countries to the more experienced players? Anyone else have preferences, or other ideas?

This would be tough to enforce, since someone who wanted to peek, could do so without any trace. I'm of the mind that where AAR's exist, it is up to the players to not show too much information on their respective AAR's unless they are comfortable with revealing it. Or, perhaps, using the knowledge that what they show is perhaps somehow to their advantage...

Yes, by action card play.

The screenshot below shows what options I feel the game should be started with. Agreement? Disagreement?

Options look like they will work for me JAMiAM.  I like the idea of random country assignments, and will definately make for a fair contest.

I don't know specifically, but it must be possible as the other diplomacy scenario AARs show different graphics for different players. Maybe the creator of that game can enlighten us?

We certainly developed a strong consensus for random draw. I'm happy with IRONCROM's offer, as well. Any dissenters?

By dissenters, I mean to say that you express your dissent before he assigns you to France...

You will all eat Döner Kebab, even if I will have to force feed you

Seriously though, thanks IRONCROM for setting us up. When do we start? May I suggest that we wait for all to upgrade to the 1.1 patch that should be arriving soon, so we don't risk to have any problems playing with different versions. Vic stated that all saves should be compatible, but better safe than sorry.

Hmm, Italy... time to start converting the Ferrari factories to tanks!

Happy Holidays everyone.  I look forward to starting this game when Jam and I are back from our vacations.
