Here's a view of the 2nd Carrier Division as they retreat back towards Paramushio.
A few additional points of damage have removed flight operations from the HIRYU, but I am now close enough to both Kiska w/OSCARS & Attu w/A6M2's both land based and refugees from the SORYU.

TURN NOTES: Kind of a quiet turn. I hope NAGUMO didn’t give too much away by striking at Midway. Hopefully Floyd will just think I’m prepping for an invasion. The Air attack @ Changsha was shockingly effective, while the one at Imphal sucked.
Still 5 U.S. Battleships as an effective strike force in the New Hebrides/Noumea area.

TURN NOTES:
Somewhat of a quiet turn. Floyd seems to have placed airplanes in all of his Northern Australian bases…I think he did that last turn actually. So the cat must be out of the bag-he got SIGINT that I’m coming. From my Recon flights it seems he has reinforced Wyndham, I believe he took the troops from Darwin! The appearance of 23 Hudsons @ Darwin was a little surprising and will have to be dealt with. My forgetting to send the FURUTAKA “Class” Cruiser TF out last turn is going to hurt. I may have to delay the invasion of Darwin b/c I don’t think I have enough Naval forces now. My knee-jerk reaction of pulling the NAGATO/MUTSU TF back to the New Hebrides/Solomons Theater, combined with my own sloppiness is killing me!
The Air Raid on Imphal was very successful, but I am disappointed that my NELLS @ Rangoon never struck his cruisers off the Andaman Islands! Unbelievabley it seems that my LBA does not want to strike any of his "naked" combat ships.
Interesting to see the Enterprises F4Fs flying CAP over Dutch Harbor. I hope that the 7th Infantry Division holds out long enough for me to “Dunkirk” them. NAGUMO’s carriers should be up there in a few days. I wonder what he’s thinking after the strikes @ Midway.

TURN NOTES:
My fighters in Timor were grounded by bad weather forcing my bombers to hit Darwin unescorted! Once again a mediocre attack on Darwin’s air field; in stark contrast to the surprisingly effective attack @ Changsha. I unloaded more troops at Lunga and soon will look to make an attack w/o the 4th Infantry Division after his unsuccessful attack.
Another bombing raid by his Liberators from India on my Resources maybe an attempt to goad me into acting in that sector, before I want to.

Question have I screwed up the Japanese Economy?
I don't seem to be producing alot of supply in the Home Islands?
Why?
[Have I changed over too many factories and expanded too many others?]

Looks to be a very healthy poition to me. I'd kill to have 2.9 million supplies (even with 400K allotted to increase engine factories) in June 42, normally I'm bumping along at 2.0 at this stage

The SORYU & HIRYU @ Kiska I. I'm tempted to stay there a turn even though its only a level 1 port (anchorage) to see if some of the floatation Damage will decrease.

TURN NOTES:
The SHOKAKU & ZUIKAKU strike planes took heavier loses then I would have liked for the small amount of damage they probably inflicted on those Battleships. The San Francisco is probably hurt decently, but the BB’s maybe 10% System damage tops!
Well he spotted the YAMATO TF up North hope that keeps him guessing…hope I didn’t panic him into pressing the issue in Dutch Harbor. I need a little more time.
My mess up with the 1st PARA RGT is killing me! I cant believe I didn’t notice what it really was. That plus not realizing that you could only paradrop onto base hexes. I had really hoped to use my paratroopers like the Allies did at Normandy; behind the beachheads to delay/cutoff reinforcements.
Don’t know why my CAP & Escorts didn’t fly at several bases in China….they may have only been 30% CAP but something should’ve/could’ve gotten up.

Oh the 1st PARA RGT is going to be involved in the Australian Campaign! It was going to be involved in a different way but now unfortunately it will serve as needed!
I have 1 Mixed Brigade set to land @ Wyndham backed up by 2 Tank RGTs, ENGR RGT, FIELD ARTY BN, {The 2nd Wave} and now the 1st PARA RGT.
Plus I have 2 more Divisions, another TANK RGT, ENGR RGT, MORTAR BN, FIELD ARTY BN, a couple of COnstruction BNs and an ARMY HQ waiting in the Wings!

JUNE 3rd

SORRY TO ALL BUT THE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM I COACH MADE IT TO THE NYC CHAMPIONSHIP SO I NEEDED A WEEK OFF FOR SOME SERIOUS GAME PLANNING and etc.
The "experts" claimed we were 20 point Underdogs...well they were wrong there, but we lost 16-22. We lead 8-6 at the Half and 16-14 enetering the 4th Quarter, but a 17 play 7 minute drive in which the other team converted four (4) 4th Downs; including scoring a TD 4th and 3 at our 8!

Attacking force 4342 troops, 25 guns, 1 vehicles, Assault Value = 44

Defending force 5045 troops, 32 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 101

TURN NOTES:
I finally sunk an Allied Sub on an ASW Attack. Alright my destroyer had to TORPEDO him! That just makes it even cooler! Hopefully this will inspire the rest of the IJN (lol).
Finally got the South Seas Detachment to attack @ Luganville, but just missed 1:1 odds!
Minimal damage @ Darwin. He has moved more bombers there and they struck at one of my Transport 2nd wave TFs and put a few hits on some APs. Luckily it doesn’t appear serious. The invasion of Wyndham will begin tomorrow. I know he has some Cruisers in the area but I’m not sure where they are now.
Very worried about the increase in floatation damage on the SORYU very fearful I might lose her before she makes it back to Paramushio!

TURN NOTES:
The first boots are on the ground in OZ (Wyndham). I’ll wait for the Brigade to totally disembark before attacking, which will also allow elements of the Engineer Regiment, Tank Regiment, and Field Artillery Regiment to land as well. The Engineers will be crucial in reducing the Fortifications. The 1st PARA has also completed loading and is on its way. Still can’t find those darn cruisers of his; even with all those BETTYS & NELLS in the area [on 20% Naval Search] plus the DINAHS & BABES Searching for them…not to mention JUNYO’S planes.
The ground attack at LUNGA went well, I may try a Shock Attack next turn. Don’t know why I can’t get the South Seas Detachment to attack @ LUGANVILLE!

Here are my forces deployed "beseiging" ICHANG.
I feel I have made NO real headway there.
It seems whenever I fight the Chinese in the open they run before me, but I just can't budge them from their cities.

What the Boys of the IJA 35th Brigade faced on the 1st day in Australia.
Not quite "We'll throw a shrimp on the barbie for you mate!"

Turn Notes:
Well I found his cruiser squadron, and he had more then I had originally thought and more then had been spotted a few days ago. Unfortunately for some unknown reasons my Heavy Cruisers “refused” to fire on his squadron! The CL TAMA took a pounding and was sunk! The TAMA hit a destroyer with one 5.5 inch shell and that was it, my destroyers missed and the SUZUYA & KUMANO never got into the fight (the TAMA took 63 shell hits + 1 torpedo!). So of course that left his cruisers free to disrupt my invasion task forces, which they did. At least the planes from the JUNYO did some damage to his cruisers, even if my LBA seem oblivious.
The 5th Carrier Division once more struck at the U.S. Battle Fleet in the New Hebrides area and inflicted some minor damage upon several battleships. But more importantly we were able to capture LUGANVILLE! That is a key to my future plans and I have no doubt that Floyd will try to take it back as soon as he thinks I withdraw the 5th Carrier Division from the area.
The 1st Carrier Division has refueled up in the Aleutians and will proceed to Dutch Harbor. I still believe that he is hiding a carrier within range of land based fighters-either Dutch Harbor itself, or Kodiak Island. I may have to “look” into that.

Here's what the area in and around Luganville looks like:
A= 5th Carrier Division +(ShOKAKU & ZUIKAKU)
B= A Base Force and supplies moving down to Luganville.
C=The invasion force and some escorts pulling back.
D= 2 Allied TFs moving West mainly AP/AKs
E= ASW TF
F= NOUMEA; 5 CA and another 5 Ap/Aks
G= EFATE the battlefleet; at least 14 ships supposedly 7 BB and 4 CA. Additionally he has over 20,000 troops and 14 bombers (SBDs) based there.

Well what does the future hold for this game?

NEW CALEDONIA (Noumea):
First I need to make sure I hold on to Luganville. I have an Infantry Division and some supplies about 3 days out to reinforce the South Seas Dteachment which captured the base, and a Base Force which is currently being unloaded. I am sure Floyd is considering attempting to retake the base as soon as my carriers (Shokaku, Zuikaku, Shoho, & Zuiho) withdraw. Additionally I am currently shipping half a Coastal Gun Rgt and a Construction Bn to Luganville. I will have to base some BETTYS @ Luganville to put some torpedos in some of his battleships. With or w/o the BETTYS if he has as many troops as I fear in EFATE, most of an Infantry Division and a Marine Division he maybe able to load them up and move them to Luganville quickly w/o getting struck.
But hopefully he is unable or unwilling to attempt...then I can attempt to take Noumea.
#1 Land by Paratroopers on New Caledonia
#2 The Next day reinforce with supplied Artillery, Engineers, & of course an Infantry Division (or two)!
#3 Proceed down the Island to Noumea.

AUSTRALIA
Currently I am not faring as well as I would have hoped in NW OZ. Most of that is b/c of my own stupidity and ONE STUPID Knee Jerk Reaction. When his Battleships showed up @ Luganville I had the NAGATO & MUTSU plus their escorting Cruisers etc turn around (after bombarding Thursday Island) and back towards the New Hebrides. This was extremely stupid and is killing me!! All my ops there where based on having this TF there for fire support as well as their presence which would keep his cruisers at bay and attract 250 pound bombs! Also I didnt realize that in this scenario the 1st PARA Rgt are not paratroopers! They are just well trained infantry! The transports (Topsys & Tinas) were giving me "No friendly Airfield in hex" message; then I looked at the symbol and realized it.

I have Admiral TANAKA arriving in the area soon with several Capital ships and then we will proceed with the 2nd stage of the Adventure in OZ, the invasion of Darwin. Hopefully I have drawn alot of his attention to Wyndham (like the Darwin Defense Bge) so when I hit Darwin with a Division plus Engineers, Artillery, and an HQ things will move much swifter!

Well what do you guys think?

TURN NOTES: Well looks like Floyd got a little upset when I was able to unload a few troops in Wyndham under the noses of his Cruisers, before they were chased away. My LBA still hasn’t really bothered them at all and that is really pissing me off; only a few BETTYS attempted top strike that TF and they were “Unable to Locate Target” arrgghh! The JUNYO’S planes put a few hits on them but again nothing significant. The KUMANO & SUZUYA were supposed to end up in the same hex as the oilers, but somehow didn’t and now will waste another day attempting to refuel. I was really attempted to iniatiate the other invasions in Australia, but I’ll wait for things to clear up in Wyndham and maybe draw him in more.
Unfortuantely his PBYs spotted the KAGA up in the Aleutians so any chance of surprise is gone there, so we will see what happens now.
A baseforce and some supply will start unloading in Luganville today which will be followed soon by half of a CD unit. Additionally I will by placing at least 1 Infantry Division there on layover as it awaits for the invasion of New Caledonia! But I must stock up some supply and fuel at Luganville first, plus place some BETTYs there to torpedo all those Battleships he has in the area. With all the Aps and AKs I spotted (and sub attacked) moving into Efate, I think he rushed the 24th Infantry Division from Pearl (that took Wallis Island en route) and his other Marine Division there.

So far All Quiet on the Western Front.
I have no desire to go marching through the jungles of Burma. While I thought he might, Flopyd has seemed hesitant to take any initiative here.
I have left two Brigades and a Regiment in Singapore as a Reserve; almost hoping he would force march into Burma and allow me to launch some sort of invasion into India.
Oh well I still have alot of air assets here and 2/3rds the Imperial Guards Division on Sumatra (1/3rd is currently based @ Akyab) if I get bored.
A= He has some Chinese units moving around in this area (sometimes I see them,
sometimes I don't)
B= I was getting Sigint over several turns(possibly false) that there were radio
transmissions coming from that hex, but everytime I try to Recon it-no one flies?
C= Calcutta; Evil base of the Liberator bombers!

TURN NOTES: I was beginning to think the SORYU just might make it to port! But as usual what little luck I had ran out. Seems he withdrew he surface forces from Dutch Harbor, b/c my PT Boats where there and back w/o any contact. Running consistent with my luck Nagumo’s Carriers end up under a storm after I put them what is suppose to be a non-rain hex and are unable to strike Dutch Harbor’s air fields.
The SUZUYA & KUMANO will refuel and begin to head back towards Wyndham. TANAKA’s TF will be in play in two days…. Actually there’s a good chance the Aussies will spot him tomorrow. I am planning on changing some of the leaders of the BETTY & NELL groups in the Timor/Australia Region; I’m feeling I need some more aggressive leaders of my bomber groups.
Not having much luck with my attacks at Lunga. I think he’s using he’s subs to resupply his troops there. I keep spoting subs actually in Lunga itself for a short time. I’m going bring some fresh troops in (again) and then finish him off.
I think I’m going to have to start bombing his bases in India again to stop his attacks on Burma’s resource centers.

Here's alook at the situation up North.
My forces are moving in to position to try to rescue the belagured 7th Infantry Divsion which is now being pummeled at Dutch Harbor by a USMC Division and 2 RCTs.

A= AKAGI, KAGA & RYUJO (Nagumo)
B= CVEs HOSHO, TAIYO & UNYO plus the Transport TF (Yeah I know I moved the CVE's
in to a coastal hex - we'll correct that this turn )
C= The Battleship YAMATO and her escorts about to make a run in Dutch HArbor.
D= My PT Boats returned from Dutch HArbor; he pulled his Cruisers and his BB out!
E= Last Known position of the HORNET, and I think she's still there.
F= Where he ran the ENTERPRISE to after she took two torpedos from a sub.
I am very curious if she is still there.

TURN NOTES: My Invasion Forces and his Cruisers played their typical game of hide and seek; unloading a little, being chased away, then coming back. Although this turn the I-20 which has been a passive witness for several days finally took action putting two torpedos into the HMAS Canberra, perhaps she’ll sink soon! The SUZUYA & KUMANO will be at Wyndham tomorrow with TANAKA’s Task Force another day out.
Up North the KAGA is beginning to run low on fuel, I hope I can load all of the 7th Infantry Division this turn. I will then have to return towards Japan to refuel Nagumo’s carriers and then decide if I want to go Hornet hunting. I still think he may have her and possibly the Long Island protected by his LBA @ Kodiak and/or Anchorage. I wonder if the Enterprise is still in Anchorage as well.
His launching of 27 B-17 from Noumea to bomb Luganville’s air field simply tell me that he is planning to retake Luganville a.s.a.p. I will have to rush the coastal defense unit there. The first Infantry division will arrive in a few days, but I will be forced to keep the 5ht & 3rd Carrier Divisions on station longer before they can refit.
The lack of aggressiveness by my BETTY/NELL Sentais is really frustrating and puzzling me. In the previous game Floyd and I played, the GUADALCANAL Scenario I overused and abused them early on. I had them strike Port Moresby or some other heavly defended target every day, and they did it. They would attempt to torpedo Naval TFs 15 hexes away flying in to heavy Flak and at times enemy CAP w/o fighter escort. Eventually they began to “break”, i.e. 1 or 2 would get shot down and a dozen or more would turn back. [But they still took off and a decent number of them would attempt to fly the mission if an enemy task force was spotted.] So I decided to be a little smarter and be more cognizant of their fatigue and morale factors, so they would be more efficient in the longer haul. But now they just don’t seem to strike at all! I understand about weather but it’s killing me when his planes fly over my base and strike things there, but my planes based there seemed to be grounded because of the weather or am I just getting a whole lot of lousy luck? (Yeah - I know wa-wa-wa) Very frustrating….maybe I’m coddling the pilots too much – the Japanese in WWII need harsh treatment.

Gentlemen any hints or thoughts out there regarding R & D choices for Japanese Air Craft?
Does it really make a difference? If so how much?
