Which player types do you typically play with, real or fictional?

I find that I use PureSim to escape reality. Fictional allows me to create stars that never existed. When Albert Shinn wins 3 straight MVP's, I had no way of knowing in advance he would be a stud. To me, that is perhaps the best part of this game, discovering your own stars.

I enjoy both, but 90% of the time I play historical real players

Fictional.

I have a real-player association going and I really enjoy it, but my love is truly with my fictional run. There's something about the "newness" the "unexpectedness" of literally meeting a player, getting to know him, then watch him grow as he improves (or implodes) throughout the game and throughout his career. Good times, good times.

I play both. But I find that I expect too much from real players. With fictional there are no expectations.

For me, using the real players is not an escape from reality, but a reasonable illusion of reality. That's just me -- one foot must always remain in the real world. It's a philosophical thing. Besides, I really don't like those fictional cartoon-character faces. Sorry. I love those real-player photos.

I like real until they all retire. Then I get a kick out of the fictional guys as I search for the ones that will break the real guys records!

Can I answer both?

I answered real and I am definitely a historical player. What I find troublesome is that when I want to restart an association I have to redo the ballpark assignments and player pools or import a template that maybe has some setting in it that I want to change (like roster size, # teams, etc.) but I want the team settings and player pool from an old assoc.

So I recently decided to try fictional players. I am liking my association and it seems much harder to win consistently and also to predict player performance without the aid of baseball-reference.com ;-).

I am playing a fict now but I favor real players by a long shot.

I have no idea which I play with...stock from the game plus an addon IIRC, but tbh I don't care because I don't know any baseball players....but I most definitely understand why people would want proper players.

What I would like most definitely though is proper pictures...helps with the immersion.

JD -
I was reading through my SABR (Society of American Baseball Researchers) newsletter archive and I found a small item that was interesting.... Photographs of 15000 of the 16000 players to have played baseball from 1871 - 2006 have been indexed and catalogd.... One month later less than two dozen players had yet to have a photo discovered and cataloged.

I would love to have the time to find, scan and include those into the game directory. Imagine a real photo for EVERY player in the Lahman DB?!?

I play with real, but I think fictional is perhaps more fun and a better challenge. I should wise up.

Gotta go with fictional. I played a full century of historical and the hindsight factor made it easier. Nothing like assembling a team of all-time greats to win 40 championships.

With fictional, it is more challenging.

Begins with real players and watched how the association evolved to fictional players from 1900 onward to the 2000 plus ... to see how real players coincided with their real stats and to see how the fictional players carrying on the burden of equalling/bypassing the stats of yester-years ... can't wait for the next software of PureSim ... It's a game where one can lose themselves (as I have from the inception of Earl Weaver's) into the infancy of childhood's fantasy of "Sandlot" ... ..
