When a team tries a fake punt and runs it, if they make the yardage necessary for a first down, they do not retain possesion of the ball, it is awarded to the defending team.

I have seen this happen numerous times now and I am using the latest update with version 2.

One Punt fake that was attempted was caught in the endzone for a safety. Yet no points were awrded, and the defending team was given the ball on their 20.

Scott, is this for a version 2.x release?

I have not checked back on these plays for a while.  We'll have to check it out.

Hi Scott.

I've been through a few different scenarios and haven't seen any problems yet. Each faked punt and field goal, that crosses the 1st down marker, properly resets the down and the offensive team retains the ball.

It's possible that something is going on I've not tried yet.

When you say; "When a team tries a fake punt and runs it,"

by 'runs it', are you talking about executing the fake punt play, or was the fake punt a running play?

thanks
David

A running play. Passes for first downs work fine, but when a teams Runs, not passes, for a first down it never gives that team the first down.

There may be certain situations were this comes up.

Does the punter run the ball, or does the ball get handed off or pitched in your fake punt play?

The up man runs the ball. I think it is snapped directly to him.

Well.. that's not something I've tried specifically. So I'll try that.

From a purely technical "the way the code works" point of view, it's the same routines used throughout the game to determine 1st down. But maybe something else is happening along the way in this case to wipe out the results of the play.

I'll investigate it this weekend and let you know if I find anything.

thanks
David

Its happening in a cpu vs cpu played out game.

If you cant find anything wrong, I can e-mail you the league file with the two playbooks I have been using, when I see it happen.

Scott, I have duplicated the bug with a fake punt run play.

We are trying to isolate the combination of game variables that cause it.  That is why we are asking the extra questions.

This actually was something we caught in beta a while ago, and David cleaned it up quickly, but there is obviously still a small issue with fake punts on runs, so we want to eliminate that as well.  We appreciate the help you have provided with this.

I know this is off topic, but isn't it nice when you report a bug and the developers finally see it too! It's so annoying when there's a bug, and no matter what the programmers/developers do, they can never replicate it, so you feel like and idiot.

It's like having car problems. Your car makes terrible noises, but when you take your car to get fixed and the mechanics take your car for a test drive... sure enough, the car purrs like a kitten.

Anyway...

Good luck!

JD

Imagine what beta testers have to go through.

It is a common tale.

Hi.

I tried a few things and was able to replicate the problem. Once you know what you're looking for, it's pretty straight forward to reproduce.

This should be corrected for version 2.2 when it's released.

thanks
David

And when might we expect that ?

You stated some time ago a build was out for testing.
