Shaun,

How often do retired players get a shot at being elected into the Hall of Fame? I ask because I had a guy in my fictional association who after an 8yr career retired with a .323 career batting average. He retired in 2011 and it's currently 2018. He was not inducted during any of the years passed. My question is how many more chances will he get in the game before he is no longer eligible for induction?

I'm seeing this similar to the current Hall inductions where some players may be on the ballot for a number of years before finally qualifying for election. However, there is apparently a limit (15 years I think) to how often a player can be on the ballot before they miss out on their 'window' of election.

Does Puresim mirror this, and if so, how? i.e. do players have more than 1 chance to get in? How many chances? Do their odds increase or decrease vs. other eligible players? etc.

Thanks in advance for your help!

FS,
I believe players get one shot at the Hall of Fame. After that there is no chance to get in.

FS,
agreed with Don, after one year passing then ex-player get inducted according to the AI choice ... is there a way for Commission mode to over-ride or reset the HOF standard ? ...

FS,
your player in question, could you post all of his Achievements in his Notable Achievement tab of the Player Card. And how many categories does this player rank in the Top 10 in Career stats?
Both these contribute heavily in election to the Hall of Fame.

Redsoxfan,
I have a utility I use to manually add players to the Hall of Fame. But I have not been able to remove players from the Hall of Fame permanantly - PureSim will put the player back in the Hall of Fame the next off-season.
I'll see if I can put together the utility for release shortly.

Thanks SL ... Looking forward to the HOF utility ... this one - will be one of the important utilities that the fans would really appreciate especially seeing what the AI choices were and what ex-players should of been in - like the closers ...

FrozenStiffer, doesn't a player have to have 10 years service to be considered?

FS,
If your league doesn't have ten years under it's belt when this player retires he will never make the Hall of Fame. You have to have played ten years and the player has to retire after the tenth season. Sorry.

Crap.

We started in 2004 and I believe he retired in 2011. I know that a player isn't eligible until 10 years after they retire, and I know that the association needs to have 10 years of history also, but I would have thought it would look "backwards" to otherwise eligible players who missed out because they shined during that pre-10 year mark.

If it doesn't, then that bites... and it hurts players who had otherwise earned a slot in the Hall.

Furthermore, I had posted in a different thread where the game isn't waiting the 10 years after a player retires before considering them for election. One gent in particular retired in 2015 only to be elected in 2016. The association had its 10 years (started in 2004) but he didn't. Observe:

Just curious here. How'd he go from hitting 28 Home Runs to 2 in a season? Did he hae a major ratings decline or a career ending injury? Sounds like Howard Johnson syndrome.

Players need a min of 3,000 Plate Appearances to be eligible. It is not based on years of service. Did he maybe have less than 3,000?

I'd prefer not to reveal details on the selection algorithm, because that may take the fun out of it for some folks :)

Also, the way it works is each year after a player is retired, he is evaluated for hall of fame. PureSim does not wait 5 years. I sort of prefer it that way and am not inclined to change that aspect.

Now, if there is interest I certainly would consider other features here like allowing users to manually vote players to the hall? Or maybe a "Just missed screen" for folks that almost made it but did not get in?

Personally, I'm not interested in manually adding people to the Hall of Fame. I feel that this could be abused just because someone may like a personal player or something. Of course, that may be fun for some people to do any way, and it's all about fun in the end. I do really like the idea of a 'just missed' screen, though, where I would gladly welcome an option to have a 're-vote' and manually 'click' any of those particular players into the HoF.

Shaun,

If by Plate Appearances, you also mean At-Bats, then Paul Marco had 3666.

So that explains a lot, but brings me to another question- it does not wait before considering players for election, but does it have a limit as to how LONG they will be considered? Also, now that I see these guidelines were chosen deliberately, I have no issue with them. I was the one who assumed they mirrored the MLB.

I agree with Wrath here. I would prefer a "Just Missed" screen over the ability to manually input players. I know that I personally would not INTENTIONALLY favor my players over those from other teams simply because they are mine. However, I confess that I don't keep as close tabs with other players as I do my own, so I may not recognize someone else's great career performances as quickly as one of my own guys (or perhaps even notice them at ALL).

slider,

It appears the answer is neither; the AI demoted him to their AAA in his last year. He appeared in 22 games in the majors, but had about 568 ABs in the minors. With Detroit's AAA club he hit .264 with 17 HR and 76 RBI. That's still a sharp downcurve from his past performance, but at least 17 HRs makes more sense than 2. By 2013, his offensive stats were (give or take) Contact - 43, Power - 60, Eye - 59. Hands and Range were both sub-50, plus his Potential had been 0 since '07, so there was no chance of a rebound. Maybe the AI valued his CURRENT stats more than his PAST performance?

Folks ... I would also rather see an utility program to bring in the "near misses" but there are some that should not have been in despite they did have one or two incredible seasons over a long haul of of 8 to 20 plus years ... mostly, some have been used as an utility player during the rise and the declining years ... anyway, it would be fun for me and others to includes those more deserving ex-players - not neccesarily of  my own players but others (whom I wish they played for my team) ... thanks for listening Shaun - as well as others interesting inputs ...

I would love to have the ability to do a Commisioner override. I got guys in my HOF with fairly meager numbers and very, very few pitchers.

Here's my requested solution - Every year the commisioner has the option of admitting/denying the guys who are up for the hall. (During Auto-play it can be automated, of course). The collection of worthy or almost-worthy candidates can be presented during the off-season.

I know this won't be completely objective (and you can't tell me that the real HOF is). Besides it's MY Hall of Fame, Darnit!!!

PS_MAH v1.0.1.1
for PureSim Baseball 2007 CE 2-5 or v1.6+

PS_MAH is a utility that addresses the need to manually add players to your associations HoF. Its Primary purpose is at this time is to allow PureSimmers to add players to the Hall of Fame "ONLY". As you will see when you start the utility, I am in the process of working on the ability to also manually add players to Milestones and Awards list as occassionally PureSim will miss some. However, at this time, I am only supporting the HoF feature. You have been warned! Backup your
associations!!!

Note: While you can add players to the Hall of Fame, the utility will "NOT" allow you to delete any players - either those PureSim added/adds or those you enter with this utility.

Overview
Players are added to the HoF by entering the players' unique PlayerID number into the plyrid field and the year-of-election into the yearelected field. To find the players' ID number, you can search by a players last name using the search function at the bottom of the utility. If your association adds the year to a players' last name, remember to include the year when searching (for example: Ruth'21). This is an example of where having the year appended to the players last name can come in handy when you have 10 Smith's or Jone's to choose from (shameless plug for keeping this feature alive). :0

A search function by players' ID number is also included for fun (I was bored!).

To Add a New Player to the HoF:
1) Obtain the players' unique PlayerID with Search
2) Scroll to the last row of the HoF table
3) Click to highlight the last cell (YearElected) in the last row.
4) Use your Tab key to then start a new row
5) Enter the players' ID number in the PlyrID field
6) Hit Tab to advance to the YearElected field
7) Enter the year the player was elected to the HoF
8) Hit Tab to exit to a new row
9) If this is the last player you want to enter, click the Close button at the bottom of the utility to Exit. Remember: You cannot use the utility to delete a player once you enter him.

Utility can be found at the CrashDavis site:
