RE defending the central pacific.

IIRC (im in 44) north pacific command has several 'spare' RCTs either on map or arriving. IMO just defend Anchorage and bluff the other bases with engineers etc.The RCT's could then be used on johnson/palmyra etc. or split them so at least 'something' defends these important places. 1/2 an RCT behind lvl 9 forts will require a Div to shift it so he'll have to come 'in force' and you'll not be giving him any free pickings.

just my 2p

If he does take the Aleutians, who cares ? invade Kiska in 44 and leave the rest to rot

There are also 2 very valuable Canadian BaseForces you can move immediatly, no restricted-HQ change needed. These would be much welcome to reinforce your airsupport capacity in Central Pacific since the NorthPac zone is mostly out of the war due to your HR about the Aleutians.

As for the PI, you wrote you have 2 HQs in Manilla, so I assume the Asiatic Fleet HQ is still there? It would be a good thing to sub-evacuate it to Pearl. Thats the only Fleet HQ the US have for quite some time.

Replace the leader of Karachi's CD guns with the most aggressive one you have. I have no proof, but it seems to help in my games.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/18/42

We've been badly hit by sync bug again this turn......there have been a CV engagement but in the reply i didn't see anything!!!

Karachi is again badly hit...and again no CD guns were able to shoot back...

However the good news of the day is that the bait we've set up was a success!
We sent our British CVs to the middle of Aden Channell, just 5 hexes from the access of it!...his CVs sprung up there and sent hordes of Vals and Kates lightly escorted!...at 5 hexes no torpedoes were launched so only few 250kg bombs were delivered that didn't cause much damage to my ships...in exchange we downed 85 crack IJN pilots!!!!!...only losing some fulmars...nothing special

Malir is hit again by his bombers and we can confirm that he's advancing towards Karchi...40 units advancing spotted...we've ordered to move back from Malir with the Bulk of my troops...only few base forces are left behind just to avoid any paradrop...well...soon we'll see how my troops in Karachi will play

Manila is hit again...

In China we're working to set up some ambushes with the MAF (Manila air force)

Turn off accept replacements, a single CD gun takes about 50k supplies when it gets drawn from the pool. The CD unit could suck up most of your supplies if it draws a few CD guns. In fact all units should be set to no replacements at this stage, supplies will last a lot longer and experience will go up faster as well if units aren't pulling replacements.

I thought those 9.2 guns once gone would not be produced again...the pool doesn't name them...
However i followed your suggestion Jim...thx!

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/19/42

Another run against Karachi...very day now it takes several punishments....get hold for long with these bombardments...
Malir is hit again, but we're abbandoning it to its destiny in order to get back safely to Karachi...

One of my sub finished the DD damaged during his last BB run...and sank it!...a little victory for my morale.

In the Marshalls we took Majuro. It will be built to AF level 5, so to be the main base for my 4Es in the Marshalls...

In China he's massing his units for Changsha...i finally managed to get 3000 AVs there...it should hold...i hope

NOTE ON KARACHI

Despite the heavy naval bombardments, the supply situation in Karachi didn't change much. Still i have 325,000 supplies at the base and the combat troops didn't suffer much. However without all the AVs brought to the total by the non.infantry units (base forces, engeneers etc) the total AV will be nothing more than 1500...which is damned low!
Anyway, i gotta say i'm quite curious about what will be the actual performance of the Karachi-fortress during a serious siege...
The KDAF (Karachi Defence Air Force) no longer exists. he last 40 planes were destroyed on the ground today....what a loss of telented and experienced pilots!

In the pacific, the bulk of my warfleet is going back to PH and SF for the upgrades scheldued for April.
In the meanwhile we're building up our defences in the Marshalls and we're organizing the SummerBird operation (Obj.: Marcus Island)

You can always abandon the Mariannes if he comes to retake them. But until then you have eliminated his forces there. Also you force him to retake the islands wich delays him. Do B-17 and B-24 can reach the home islands from there ?

quote:

ORIGINAL: PzB

It's true that the Marianas could be an overstrecth - but if the islands are virtually undefended it could be worth to send in a probe in strength in order
to grab what you can and then leave behind only what you can afford to loose. How many base force units does Japan have to spare for these islands in early 42? Almost none..... Even a feint towards the Marianas could be very disrupting for your opponent.
I suspect that Trollelite may bypass Manila and strike towards Marianas/Marshall altogether, suppressing it from the air and then mopping up in late 42/ early 43 when he receive more troops. Autovictory will be impossible without capturing Manila though....

What did you do with the British Navy - did you withdraw it to Aden or Oz? Not seen it in action and I know it could have knocked out a lot of IJN guys when they arrived to bombard Karachi with all of KBs fly guys put on ground attack and CAP!

But how will you know in time? Even if you leave ships there, all the LCU's will wind up at the bottom of the Pacific under KB's attacks.

No guys, i know the temptation is strong...but the "victory desease" in the pacific now is the bigger problem i have to face. Can't overextend. Can't be overconfident. if the KB will dare to engage i want him to engage where i'm safer, away from his LBAs, so away from Truk and Saipan.
Now i'm up with 4 CVs (considering the Wasp already at hands). The Saratoga will be out of action for a long time i fear.
now it's time to build up my defences in the Marshalls and to organize the Marcus Island operation....and above all to hope Karachi will last for long long time...

Now his KB has lost a real important number of crack pilots. This is exactly what i needed before the future pacific engagements with the allied CVs...
I fear that in April 42 the U.K. Gov. will call back some important ships to Europe. one of my precious brit CV for sure...i think i will send them back. I'll just keep the air-units attached at Aden...you never know...for escorting a counter invasion of India we may need a only fighter composition aboard the CVs that will remain...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/20/42

The Flak at Karachi has become completely useless...disabled and destroyed my AA units were not able to shoot down enough bandits coming at 11k fts...
However the Japs got another bloody nose at Calcutta...he keeps on shock attacking my poor Burma Bde whose resistance is now heroic!
At Lyngayen the Japs tried to attack a PI division...just to get pushed back...

I set up a little surprise for the enemy bombers at Changsha...he's being bombing the base for days now, only lighlty escorted by oscars...my MAF fighters will try to intercept them and set up an ambush...let's see if it works...

Nothing much else to report...43 units advancing towards Malir. Another BB run on the way for Karachi...

The good thing about Karachi is that he will be forced to shock attack crossing the river...so if my guys manage to hold the first blow he's gonna have some serious troubles...

I wonder how his squadron's exp must now look like. He lost a bloody lot of pilots already, and now his KB squads are depleted as well. He shouldn't have many trained pilots in pool to replace these losses, shouldn't he?

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/21/42

The Ambush over Changsha went perfect! 16 enemy bombers shot down! Now my MAF force is back to Chungking in perfect shape and with high morale! This will force him to be more carefull with his bombing campaign in China! We'll keep on trying ambushes and surprise attack, making a kind of guerrilla air war in this theatre

In India Karachi was badly hit again, both by sea and by air.
The only good news is that one of his escorting DD hit a mine and took severe damages

The intel says he has a naval unit prepping for Wake Island...a RCT is being ready to be moved here from SF just in case...

We lost Lyngayen...the PI division was unable to pull back in time...

Lost completely any contact with the KB...with Karachi now completely blind it's quite hard to tell where the dreaded KB is...

I'm trying to give some more life to my support units. I'm moving them 1 hex north of Karachi to try to avoid the naval bombings...the HQs however should effect the units even if not in the same hex...so it should work...HQs, AAs and Eng will now be moved there...let's see

My fear is that he can use his paras to scrumble the retreat towards Karachi...mmmm...do not know what to do...is it worth to move my HQs to the road 1 hex north of Karachi? is it worth the risk?.....mmmm....
Anyway, i'm planning to set up another CV ambush with my british carriers...Let's see if this time we can shoot down some unescorted betties/Nells on extended range...

For the rest he has 27 units approaching Changsha...quite a HUGE mass of people! wonder if my poor guys will be able to hold against these great odds...as soon as i come home i'll post some more screeshots explaining the overall strategic situation on the different theatres.

GH, I know your ressources are scare... but you definitely need to open a front elsewhere!!

Don't you want to start offensive air operations against SRA?
You said there are still some people fighting on Timor right? Why not re-take the island for good, and build up the base? Kendari and everything in the range will hate your 4-E's!

I wouldn’t do this G. H., ground combat and bombardments work in a row. In other words the left-most unit takes the most damage, the next in line a little less, the next even less, etc. until the units far to the right take little or no damage at all. Even though your HQ and base forces are heavily disabled, they are protecting the units further to the right from taking heavier damage. This is why a lot of players fight with their land units divided, the more units in the row the harder it is to damage stuff all the way on the right.

Usually those are your combat units, so protect them at the cost of the HQ’s and base forces until they are completely destroyed if necessary. Your goal is for your combat units to last long enough to get to 70+ experience levels and 60+ morale. If you can manage to last that long I doubt he’ll be able to take the base after that.

So sacrifice the non-combat units for now as a protective cushion, once your land units start performing well, then cycling units out for rest will be a good option.

Also I’d keep one AAA unit on accept replacements if/when his battleships leave. Don’t bother turning it on now since BB nukes will just destroy all the new shiny guns, but if he leaves the area with his BB’s you’ll want at least some AAA coverage.

Jim

P.S. Have you pulled fragments of all your units out to Aden by sub? I'd be sure to do that ASAP so you can rebuild a lot of these units should they be destroyed. Combat units are the most critical. You don't have to rebuild them, but it's nice to have the cadre's around if your replacement pools begin to grow. I have about 5 Indian brigade cadres from Singapore sitting at Delhi with replacements off since I'm short Indian squads, but if the pools ever do grow, I can perhaps rebuild one or two at some future time.

Geeeez Fishbed, its Mar/42 there are simply not enough troops/suplies/anything for fighting everywhere. I'd say GH is doing very well with his current achivements. Securing these achivements is far more important than opening another front.
Of course some stings here and there will help to lower opponents morale and raise own morale but I'd strongly discourage any further major operations at the moment.

No guys, sorry but i really do not have anything to open a new front in the Southern SRA...the units that in stock are scheldued for that theatre are now reinforcing my positions in central Pacific and i'm not planning to send to Darwin nothing more than subs, supplies and some planes .
At the moment at Darwin i have 600 AVs (only oz troops), 30 4Es, 32 Kittihawks and some more 30 patrol craft, along with 10 subs and an AS that are arriving in place.
I'm planning only to conduct a sub war here for the moment.

However i made another bad mistake. the last 3 units (90 AVs) left in Malir weren't ordered to march to Karachi (fearing the catapult effect if he had used his paras) and now are reached by an enemy tank rgt which has stopped completely their movements...----

At Changsha he reached with his first unit our positions. We have now 3200 AVs under 6 forts...let's hope
