Broke the oldest rule in the book. Operated on what I thought my enemy would do (or, in this case, not do) instead of what I knew he could do.

Two transports unloading at Saipan. I sent the carrier TF I had there back to Eniwetok for replenishment. Sent the Surface forces too. Damn!!

Shades of Leyte! He got 2 heavy cruisers and a bunch of DD's in among my transports. The escorts did the best they could......while they lasted.

BAD WORD!! BAD WORD!! BAD WORD!!

What I try to do is have every TF going into harms way following an SCTF. That way when the bad guys show up, there is an SCTF there to greet them. For me, this is a must in the case of an amphibious op. Learned my lesson in the infamous Trincomalee operation in the "must-read thread" thread.

I didn't lose any carriers, but I lost plenty DDs, transports, MSW, PCs, and TKs though

I prefer the SCTF to follow the transports, but the principle holds. I also like to get my Stupid Move of the Game (TM) out of the way early.

I managed to do this versus the AI. Spotted a group of British cruisers, missed a US cruiser force and sent my cruisers to destroy the British. The British escape, and the unspotted American warships hit my transports. Not very well though:

Night Time Surface Combat at 52,68 <Palau>

Japanese Ships
DD Nagatsuki, Shell hits 26, and is sunk
MSW W.20, Shell hits 4, on fire (later sank)
AK Ganges Maru
AK Heimei Maru, Shell hits 2, on fire
AP Hiyoshi Maru
AK Hukko Maru
AP Kasuga Maru #2
AP Kembu Maru, Shell hits 13, on fire, heavy damage (badly damaged, returned to port)

Allied Ships
CA Northampton, Shell hits 2
CA Minneapolis, Shell hits 2, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
CL Raleigh
CL St. Louis

Let me know when it's coming, and I'll try not to make my Stupid Move of the Week (TM pending) on the same day.

Only one per game>,,,,,,,,,I would pay real money if I new how you manage that. I seem to to have just the reverse happen.

"I also like to get my Stupid Move of the Game (TM) out of the way early. "

Is MSMOTG an historical inevitability?

In a game that potentially will last for years? Yes.

Then there's MMSMOTG (my most stupid move of the game), MOSMOTG (my outrageously stupid move of the game), and MTSMOTW (my typically stupid move of the week) to take into account as well...
