Has anyone bought it?

Is it worth buying and laminating (and then use non permanent markers) so I can use it to "plan" and keep track of stuff? Ive only just started playing the game and I have only completed the tutorial and had one go of the Coral Sea scenario but I thought having a large map would help to get an overview of the whole theatre and make it easier to deal with the micro elements.

OT - Roger Neilson made a post a while ago where he listed his checkpoints for playing a turn but I cant find it, anyone know which thread it was in??? (I saw this thread ages ago before I bought the game)

Did you try looking for it in the "Must Read Threads" stickied above. If it was a checklist then it sounds like it may have made it in there. VSWG has done an excellent job of ferretting out some of the most pertinent threads to read as far as tactics and strategy.

Yep just checked.  Not immediately obvious where it might be if included in the must read threads.  As far as I remember, Roger's post was in a thread where someone asked for help in keeping track of things and it was just his own list of the steps he goes through each turn.  Ive searched the forums under "keeping track" and variants but no luck.  Hopefully Roger will see this and come up with a link.

In the meantime, your furry friend would do well to avoid Irrelevant's sniper. I believe that he has the range on you...

I have a few variations on the operational map on my site that you can take and have printed...they are actual size but I can reduce if you need.

Thanks Rogue, I see how easy and cheap it is to get them printed in my neck of the woods.

Do you still create banners for people?  If so, what do you need? (I dont know enough yet to decide on one but thought Id ask).

Cheers

Edit: Rogue, just checked how much it would cost to print out and laminate a full colour map from your site - not much change out of AUS$400. I think Ill give that idea a miss!

Did you look into the cost for black and white?...we can also reduce the physical size of it also...

As for banners, yes I would be happy to make ya one. If you have a pic you want to make into a banner, e-mail it to me. Or just throw some ideas at me and I'll put some together.

I didn't ask about black and white and I did see what the price was if I reduced the size to approx 1 metre by 1 metre and it was still about $140.  Probably easier to buy the one Matrix sells.

The only alternative is to print out a large map in sections but I dont know how I would do that (I could get away with printing at work if that were possible in, say, A3 sheets).

If you look in your WITP/Art folder (unless I copied them there and have forgotten doing it <g>) you'll find a whole bunch of bitmaps called WITN00, WITN01 and so on - these are the map sections. Copy each one into any art program you like, resize/stitch together as you wish, then print each out. A bit of trimming with a paper trimmer and some paper glue and you have a large paper map.
Laminate each A4 printout and you've got a sectional map that you could stick together, or take the big paper map and a roll of fablon and scissors.... the possibilities are endless! (I went for the big paper map, I then added labels using Tippex (white. liquid paper stuff) .... make a neat tippex rectangle for the background, use a fine pen to add label info when it's dry.

If you get really stuck find a 10 year old, they all have masters degrees in cutting and gluing these days.

Sorry, just read this - I can't recall posting that, nor do I actually have such a thing... In fact I'm pretty much instinct based!

I start at one side of the map.... Aden or Karachi depending on the mod, and kind of circle round till I finish up in China. I look at an area and do that then move on - I probably miss all sorts, but in the greater scheme of things I don't reckon it matters too much.

I certainly don't have a checklist, and wouldn't use one if i had one drop on me, its not my style - I'm not, to my cost often, that methodical.

If I was so inclined what I'd do is just use the panels as mentioned in previous posts but save them as separate, or combined ones, or just do screen shots of the relevant area - then use an annotation program Snagit 7 is free to download -- I recently posted the url for it).

Save the map, titled whatever the operation is, and you have it to refer to anytime, print it off if you want to, and delete it when you want to....

Ain't that the truth about kids these days. I swear you talk to the average 10 yr. old and it seems to me they are a lot smarter these days than when I was a kid, but then that was over a half century ago ! LOL

I could have sworn it was you that posted a checklist of things I go through each turn so I dont forget anything. Nevermind, Ill keep searching the forums and might find it one day!

Re the map issue, I have a widescreen monitor so I can use paint or whatever and plan on the computer but I also thought a nice large printed map of the whole area laminated and on the wall next to the computer would be good because you could see everything at once.

I might buy the Matrix one and play around with the files as others have said and see what works best.
