I've been playing CoG obsessively for a couple of weeks now and have run across one definite bug I haven't seen addressed here (lately, anyway) and another I suspect is a bug as well.

The first is that in a few games one province turns into a black hole - units of any type, even diplomats, dropped into it disappear from the map and don't come back. This happened with Brunswick in a game I was playing as France and with Ile-de-France playing as the British. The units are still there, they can be seen in the military advisor screen and still do things like plunder, perform sieges, or fight battles, they just don't show up on the map and hence can't be moved. Sometimes one or two units can move in and remain visible.

(Individual units can be given orders to go to another city or army, which seems to work, but it's obviously less than ideal to have to move an army as individual units that way, and the container units themselves can never leave.)

The second thing I've come across is the spontaneously disintegrating army. I'll load 6 or so units and a few leaders into an empty corps or army, sometimes giving it orders to move but other times doing nothing but putting units in it, and the next turn - with no battle anywhere near it - it's sitting right back in the same province, empty, with the individual units sitting in the same province. I had this happen for 3 or 4 months with a Russian army in Grodno; the only other unusual thing I noticed is that it was raining. Is this a bug or is there something that's supposed to trigger armies falling apart?

Finally, a question: what are the extra winter casualties that the Winter Fighting development prevents?

There are a few small provinces (Brunswick, Mecklenberg, Corsica, etc.) in which sometimes all of the units that exist there do not display properly.  You can select these units by opening the Attachment Box for the entire province.

Remember that in the Orders Phase things don't actually get done, you're just giving the orders for these things to be done during the Movement Phase.  Attaching/detaching units to military groups does take an action, and it's possible that a complicated reorganization of military groups -- or an organization involving units that are also moving in the turn -- may not be successfully completed during the Movement Phase.

Fighting detailed battles during the winter causes extra damage with every attack -- I forget the penalty off the top of my head.  The Winter Fighting upgrade mitigates this damage.

Is the Attachment Box the one you get by clicking "Inspect [province]" - like the military advisor, but only for that province?

If so, that allows you to reorganize but still nothing can move out of the province except as individual divisions. I've got an army stuck in Ile-de-France that can't go anywhere unless I'm missing something - you can't give it orders to join somewhere else and selecting it in the attachment box (assuming that's what I thought you meant) doesn't allow it to move once you go back to the map. Ditto for the diplomat, although he eventually got expelled.

Or is there something I'm missing?

Right, but in some cases these were units that began the turn in the same province as the army, and were given no orders except to join the army. It also happened when I gave orders to join an army and for the army to move; sometimes it would move, then dump the units back out again. That seems off to me.

Thanks for the reply!

The attachment box is the little window that pops up on the main map.  I forget the exact mouseclick that opens it (I don't have my COG stuff on this computer to look it up...I can do it naturally while I'm playing -- I think it's something like CTRL+right-click).  You should be able to select units in the attachment box (including armies and corps, I believe), and then issue movement orders for those units.

Did those units have active auto-join orders to other military groups or cities?  That would pull them out of the group you just attached them to.  COG has been out for two years and the spontaneous breakdown of military groups hasn't been reported before as an issue, so my guess, at this point, is that it's probably something simple, like the units still having auto-join orders or similar.

Thanks, it is ctrl+right-click, and that did the trick. I wasn't aware of that feature.

No, but I haven't been able to replicate the problem.
