What do the colored dots represent next to some of the bases? Is one color for port and another for an airfield?

Just FYI, I left these "industry" dots unchanged form Subchaser's WITP map.. there was some rumors on WPO with production on, but.. oh well..

BTW, Nice AAR

Seeing as I am allowed to post in here....

quote:

ORIGINAL: Message sent via British Embassy in Tokyo

11th June 1922
It is with great outrage that the Japanese government is reporting the illegal actions of the American Navy in the current Phillipnes Emergency. Contrary to current international law an unidentified American submarine did, without warning torpedo an unescorted Japanese merchant vessel. No effort was made to inform the ship, or ensure the safety of her crew the crew were only saved by the arrival of a nearby destroyer which managed to drive off the American vessel. The piratical actions of the American military in their use of unrestricted submarine warfare will be met with in kind. Effective immediatly the Imperial Japanese Navy reserves the right to engage all merchant vessels of the USA without prior warning.

The responses:

US:

The United States would regret non combatant casuaties but is unable to comment on this specific incident at this time. The Empire of Japan launched an unprovoked attack on the United States without a formal declaration of war. US territory has been seized unlawfully and the blood of US servicemen and civilians and that of those under our protection has been spilled. The state of war that exists between the United States of America and the Empire of Japan will end only with the return of US territory with an appropriate level of reparation and the reduction of the Japanese Fleet.

UK and Commonwealth:

The Royal Navy will protect the right to freedom of passage for all seafarers. All combatants are hereby warned that any attack on a British vessel will be considered a potential Act of War and appropriate action will be taken.

The French and the Dutch remain silent...

The brave warriors are nearly home, but the US Navy Force in the PI is nearly spent. The Japanese DD Nenohi sank shortly after the battle. Huron is still in danger - her flotation damage went back up to 71 this turn.

The battle for Davao rages. The shock attack was caused by Jap reinforcement crossing what must be a river (I think...)

In China the regrouped Tsingtao force is (very) slowly marching back to engage the enemy. The relief force for Mukden is still about a week away.

The West Coast shipyards have been working all hours. I should have upgraded DDs ready to send to PH within seven days from the four yards that are doing the work. This is another Cruiser ready for guard ship duties while we build up our bases... (More Dixie art)

This is the current state of my defences at Clark. I would imagine it will be a couple of turns before Dixie recovers from the assault crossing of the river North of Clark.

Dixie has units approaching Manila from the South. Clark is pretty well supplied so I am going to resist the temptation to pull everything back into Manila from Clark before he gets there. My forces might be split, but so are his and I have the in hex supply and am on the defensive.

The situation for the Navy is grim. I am almost out of combat worthy ships. Huron now has 74 float damage. I do not think she will make Hong Kong, but I am tempted to try to move her. Next turn she will have over 75 float damage, so I may have left it too late!

My forces at Tsingtao have moved 46 miles, so they might arrive next turn.

In Northern China, Dixie has more forces arriving. I am going to concentrate my forces to try to overwhelm him at Mukden rather than spread myself out to slow him down.

This is just a quick post to explain how I feel things are going.

Having not played WPO before, and seeing as I haven't read any AARs on this game, I have no idea how I 'should' be doing. I am pleased with the progress being made in the Philippines, except for the damn shock attacks at Clark Field that someone seems to be commiting my troops to. I am hoping that there are enough forces ashore in the Southern Phillipines to complete the job there.
The campaign out in the Central Pacific also went well, netting some nice real estate from the Americans, but will I be able to hold onto it?
The lack of airpower is a strange thing to get used to. Having played WitP for so long, it almost seems like the IJN is blind now Plus I don't have the fantastic KB in 1920 either...
The only real negative point is the perfomance of GBL's American pirates with their unlawful unrestricted submarine warfare which has damaged several ships.

I am trying to keep the game realistic, so attacks on the world's largest navy won't be happening yet (if at all). I couldn't realistically hope to beat the two word superpowers of the 1920's at the same time, so for now the Dragon will be taking on the Eagle rather than the Lion.

A busy turn. I only have time to post the CR this morning. I will post more in depth stuff later on today.

I have another Light Cruiser ready to join the Pacific Fleet scouting/screening force (at last). I have bought a National Guard Regiment and they are on their way to SF to be shipped to Dutch Harbor. I need them at Canton Island and Pago Pago too, but want the Northern Flank secured against a cheap flanking attack.

I have this Cruiser ready. She is sailing to provide a guard ship at Dutch Harbor. Her sister will join her when she is finally ready (sys damage 2 still). I am tempted to have them join the Pacific Fleet Battle Line as cannon fodder due to their 21 knot speed. What do you think?

This is the current poor state of Midway. I have a CL and a pre-Dreadnaught offshore. More units and supplies are on the way and the Pac Flt will be here in a couple of days. I also have the first wave of subs arriving at PH next turn and they will be deployed at Wake and Midway straight away.

I have a supply ship on the way to try to sneak into Guam. The Marine Fighter Squadron there has Naval Attack orders, but they never attack. I have two subs on the way to try to drive off his patrolling Surface TF. In the PI I have decided after all to retreat to Manila from Clark. I hope it is not too late. The Port at Manila is far more important to me than the airfield at Clark for now and I get the urban bonus at Manila.

USS Huron is now 99/83. It is too late to try for HK. I am hoping for a miracle...

The AE from the China station will be escorted to the new US base by the three remaining destroyers. Hopefully they will not run into trouble on the way. Firm protests have been lodged by the French and British Governments after the bombardment of Shanghai (Dixie forgot they were there as the top unit in the stack was Chinese!). A retaliatory attack will be carried out on the Shanghai SNLF and the French Cruiser Squadron is sailing to come under command of the RN at Singapore. This is the current extent of measures to be taken.

At Shanghai the B segment of the 3rd Chinese Division has disappeared. It is not on the re-inforcement list and is not listed on the Land Unit tab so it must be gone for good due to the disappearing unit bug. It may be my own fault for fighting with them split up. I have been warned of dangers but have never suffered from them in WitP. I will play it safe from now on as I cannot afford to lose units. There will be a bombardment attack at Tsingtao.

In Northern China I have been an idiot. Because of how I approached I have to shock attack across the river at Mukden. The Corps in postion should be enough to dislodge his light unit, BUT he has his large force one hex to the East and if they move to Mukden I am screwed. I am risking the crossing. It could be very costly...

The other CA from Seattle is cruising North to join her sister. The first two upgraded DDs were ready at LA and are cruising to PH. The 4 DDs that were escorting the supply convoy to PH that arrived this turn will upgrade at PH. Subs from the first wave have been sent to patrol at Kwajalein, Wake and Midway. Hopefully they'll cause as much trouble as the PI subs have been doing...

PH now has an air group. Unit one:

Most units got to Manila. This is the current state of defences. I am hoping they will build more quickly now that I have more units present. Martin did not enter Manila from the South. I guess he thought I was too strong for the forces he had present. I have supply ships on the way to Manila to try to build up for a siege. There is a lot more fuel on the way too, but I may redirect some as there is no point in leaving too much for Martin. USS Huron is now 99/86.

He got another unit into Tsingtao when he mined it. I do not have the forces to enter the city without being bounced out, with all the casualties and morale drops that causes. The US RCT, the Chinese cavalry and infantry corps will stay outside the city and dig in. The two fragments of the 3rd Chinese division will go and peform garrison duty while they recover. The China Station HQ will move to the new base at Canton.

Edit: looking at this after I posted I am wondering where the US RCT is. I am hoping they were not detroyed in their third (I think) defeat. Even worse would be for them to still be marching in on their own!

Bizarre happenings in the North. Mukden has become Russian now I have retaken it! The Corps in Mukden will remain there. The other Corps and the HQ will head back North to try to stop Martin getting around me at the same time as hopefully halting his advance for now.

Just a couple of extra bits I forgot:

SS S-6 shot off her entire warload on the first night of her patrol. Another sub is moving to cover Takao as S-6 returns to port to rearm. The skipper was going to be replaced after the first two misses, but hitting Hyuga may have saved him. The torpedo penetrated the belt armour, but does not seem to have caused any secondary damage or fires.

At Mukden I could be leaving the unit there exposed to being outflanked and surrounded. I may have to reconsider where I send the other units.

Does anybody have any ideas what the likely Russian reaction would be to Japanese forces moving closer to their borders?

Ground combat at Clark Field

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 52063 troops, 238 guns, 70 vehicles, Assault Value = 930

Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 0

Japanese assault odds: 433 to 1 (fort level 4)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Clark Field base !!!

I am still not sure I did the right thing abandoning Clark without a fight. I may have needed the time to build up Manila's defences. I am hoping the fact I can get supplies in because of the lack of air power will help me resist against the number of troops he has present. The move from the South would potentially kept my best units from Manila (if he had entered the hex!)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Davao

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 24204 troops, 213 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 431

Defending force 6934 troops, 35 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 184

Allied ground losses:
33 casualties reported

Ground combat at Lamon Bay

Japanese Deliberate attack

Japanese assault odds: 278 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Lamon Bay base !!!

Ground combat at Shanghai

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 22702 troops, 180 guns, 30 vehicles, Assault Value = 532

Allied assault odds: 45 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
1785 casualties reported
Guns lost 5

Allied ground losses:
80 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Well that problem is solved...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
