Sadly, so many of the more interesting conflicts in the ancient world aren't well enough known to grab much attention. Everyone has at least heard of the Persian Wars, Peloponnesian War, Punic Wars, Gallic War, campaigns of Philip and Alexander. But those nifty Greek wars between PelWar and Philip, the ones mainly in Xenophon and Plutarch, aren't really known at all. Same goes for Egypt's expansion during the New Kingdom, Persia's wars with Egypt and other peoples, Rome's conquest of the East, etc. Some of those would make for great games, but outside of Persian Wars, PelWar, Alexander, and Punic Wars I don't think there'd be any interest at all in a strategic game. It's a pity, because New Kingdom Egypt would be perfect for a strategic game, and same goes for certain periods/places in the Ancient Near East. We need to start making ancient history a mandatory part of the high school and college curriculum!
