Actually its 1+3x for forts and x3 for mountains

Each fort level is c .333 so 1+.333x9 = 4x for forts and 3x for terrain = 12x defence = horrible adjusted av

My rule of thumb

Fort lvl 3 = 2x, lvl 6 = 3x, lvl 9 = 4x

Its the combo of forts and bad terrain that make some bases incredibly ahistorically difficult to take because the two bonuses are multiplicative.

(What would be the true build cost for building equivalent to lvl 9 forts in a 60 mile mountin hex - half the GDP of France for 20 years ?)

Oops, my bad (would not make much sense to give level 1-3 forts a x1 multilier).

But are the modifiers cumulative (4x3=12) or is it x4+x3=x7

Well, since the rules states that it give 3X to the defense, and doesn't mention anything about "additive" (iirc) - that's why i thought it was a multiplier.

Also, i don't think you get a 1+3x - merely a straight multiplier.

i guess i (or someone) needs to run a test on this.

No I had it confirmed years ago they are multiplicative which is why you see huge adjusted AV's on city (x16 with lvl 9 forts) and Mountain (12x with lvl 9 forts)

It makes some bases like the marianas (exlc Tinian) impossible to take which is why the only logical attack route for the Marianas is to take Tinian unlessthe Japanese leave another island empty

OK well the straight multipliers are

lvl 1 1.333
lvl 2 1.667
lvl 3 2
lvl 4 2.33
lvl 5 2.66
lvl 6 3
lvl 7 3.33
lvl 8 3.67
lvl 9 4

Hmmm... i had always used rule of thumb that level 9 is 3x... the math isn't as pretty.

i need to look into this, although for practical purposes i'm not sure 9x or 12x is going to make much difference given the number of die rolls involved in land combat.

Another day another dollar ---- the red armies advance continues Harbin is th eobjective and I am going for it hard....

in the NE the perimeter bases are secured allowing easy access south...

NW I am not attacking but sitting tight waiting for all forces.

In South my armies are about to link up which will hopefully allow me to do an end run around PZB and leave him hanging on the mountain top that he has chosed to hide on.

In Luzon my Infantry are gathering at Clark and will stay there to rest and recover while the armour and arty reduces the pockets of the enemy in San Marcelino, Lingyen and Bataan.

A divison or two will be sent to secure Naga in the near future.

Overall I am satisfied with progress.

The Infantry will need a few weeks rest at Clark but I will use this time constructively.

Future plans

1. An advance on the HI from Luzon stopping at all bases on the way
2. Red Army assault on Korea (possibly supported by a US landing at Inchon - to allow me to use US AF in Korea)
3. Secure Ceylon by capturing Colombo.
4. Possible landings in India.

Apologies guys turns are really slowing down and its all my fault (I am very busy at present)

A few updates the AI sent another TF to Vladivostock I stopped it off the Bonins I need to watch the Auto convoy system carefully.

Turns are slow just now.

PZB is having air problems in Russia I offered a series of compromises and we proceed.

p.s. I am bombing bases getting ready for an advance to the HI.

The plan is for smallish forces to take the island NE of Luzon and then 1 of the 0/0 islands slowly moving towards Okinawa.

A massed landing on Okinawa will then happen all under friendly air cover.

Still no A bombs I am waiting for them....

OK game back on !!!!

We have done about 10 turns since my last update.

After Pauks decision and the dissapearance of my other opponent this is now my only game

Main events.

1. An attack by B29's out of Luzon are attacking Mitsibushi engine production I am going to try and hit all his engine sites in a concerted attack plan.
2. US forces of 37th ID siezed Ishiak a lvl 0 AF seabees are en route. - I lost two cruisers at the island Tromp and Adeilade when a surface TF came calling - PZB still has teeth
3. Forces are now concentrating at Colombo I would liek to complete the reconquest of Ceylon.
4. Infantry units are mostly resting on Luzon armour and arty are attacking to eliminate holdouts on Bataan and Linguyen but I am in no great rush.
5. Massed allied fleet is now in Manila Bay but I will need to send some AK's back for supply soon.
6. 1st US Army only gets two Divs in stock but they are good uns they arrive soon.
7. No A bombs yet.
8. Far east has just not worked Soviet supply in 45 is inadequate for an offensive.
9. USAAF pilot pool is empty.

If Isheak can be raised to level 1 within a few weeks then my next move is either straight into Olympic or more likely Okinawa.

If I take Okinawa I can destroy his fighter force whatever the cost

Isheak raises its AF level by about 4% per day so within a month I will have a lvl 1 AF there just in time to support moves towards the HI.

I have ordered some forces into Bataan gto clean out the nest of vipers and a second force is ordered to attack Lingyen I want to clean up my rear rest the troops and then go all out for my next objective.

Yesterday my co ordination failed me the carrier group supporting raids on Mitsibushi factories ended up at Isheak and the bombers went in un escorted over 80 were shot down an attrition rate of nearly 20%.

OUCH

Today they were all resting.

I did manage to begin the reduction of Colombo.

It would be nice if all aof ceylon was mine....

OK I will rest my 29's for another turn these losses are crippling so I will need to be carefull.

I think the next plan is to hit Okinawa I am just going to grind my way in close now.

I will clean up Luzon and then aim to land on Okinawa in about 2 months time with overwhelming force and full airsupport. I will also bring over the two US Armoured Divs to assist with the invasion

In the meantime the CW forces in Ceylon will finish the recapture of Colombo and then rest up.

I have a lot of carriers currently damaged and will need to re evaluate where I am going to pull in additional forces from.

I will also be continuing my campaign against Mitsibushi Engine Production.

If Isheak can be raised to level 1 within a few weeks then my next move is either straight into Olympic or more likely Okinawa.

If I take Okinawa I can destroy his fighter force whatever the cost

I'd suggest Okinawa and take your time. You can soften it up for awhile before going in; once it is secure, you can attrite away his fighters, and if you've shut down his production as well, then you're set for Olympic.

With the emptying of my USAAF pilot pool I now have an issue.

Okinawa and Kadina as mountains are a nasty proposition I would need to land 48 Divs per 1,000 AV defensively to get a 1:1.

I need to think more on my next move.

Aye Shindens do well.

Its cat and mouse around Okinawa I am sending light surface TF's in to raid his transports as he has hundreds of single ship TF's in port (its a real pain)

Its cost me a few DD's and my heavy ships went into bombard last night and ran into an IJN cruiser TF as mine was sent to bombard and the DD sqns lost to the IJN TF it was a miserable affair for the allies.

I have been avoiding using PT Boats for a while a. because limited places to use them without huge journeys.
b. because it pissed PZB off.

I am changing this around now given the sheer number of 1 ship TF's and Barges around PT boats based at Isheak are going to make a reappearance to raid Okinawa waters.

Ishiak is now open and 2 Sqns move in I need it to be lvl 2 for offensive operations.

I am undecided about next moves.

Okinawa Grind is the obvious way but it would wreck my Divs again

OK guys time to plan my options

Forces are recovering from the invasion of the Philippines rapidly and whent eh newly arriveing forces are ready it will be time to hit home the final time.

The question is where to strike.....

As you can see I am considering four possible plans.

A Grind along Okinawa tot he HI.
B The South where he cannot reinforce by road
C The North a twin assault 1 Army lands at Sasebo to cut off reinforcements while 3 Armies land on Nagasaki.

In terms of strength I am still short of heavy units and the ones I have are damaged still less than 40 cruisers (23 of them 8" or better) 10 BB's

I have 4 Armies

1st, 6th, 8th and 10th US Armies, 11 Corps and 4 USMC Divs, 30 Inf Divs and 2 Armoured Divs with plentifull Arty and Armour to support.

(plus 1 Corps of 3 Divs on Iwo but they are tying down a large number of Japanese forces)

All of the three plans are viable I think I just need to pick one. Based on past performance A will probably work but it will take and wreck most of my LCU's for a few months so it will be slow.

B looks good but doesnt get me much as I would need to reinvade later as well but it IS open terrain

C hmmmm C looks really tempting....

Andy
