Yes, but I think the issue is rather with the ASW mission type rather than pure naval search... isn't it?

Welcome Dekwik - always nice to see new people around

Indeed, this was a short glimpse back in time to the good ole days!
Unfortunately we're a bit short on hardware these days...

Replaced 2 of the damaged destroyers today to reinforce what remains of the Junyokan.
Back in mid 43 Tanaka suddenly disappeared, never saw any message about it and he didn't go down in
combat. Quite annoying but Nishimura has done a good job in his place.

Looks like Andy is psychic, B-29s no longer on naval search.
In return 100's of Avengers and SDBs are on naval search. We gunned down
20 of them in an otherwise quiet day.

Still got 96 Shindens and 200 other fighters in India - as soon as I'm certain Andy isn't invading
I'll transfer them towards the Home Islands. Will be a most welcome reserve.
Also keeping 1000 medium and naval bombers in reserve - will take a long time to replace and train them,
so I don't wish to waste them on non vital operations.

Trying to organize a defensive perimeter that becomes stronger the closer the enemy gets to
the Home Islands. Not sure how long we got before Andy slams 8-10k assault points worth of troops
ashore somewhere. 9 forts and 1000 assault points that can rapidly be reinforced to 3k is necessary
to defeat such an invasion.

I Andy lands outside of LBA range he will be very vulnerable for quite some time.
This will be when we gather 500 Shindens for the ultimate fight against enemy carrier air power

Don't think this will happen until 01/46 though, after a campaign against Okinawas most likely.
Would be difficult to bypass them.

Mustangs are escorting from Apparri at max range. This makes them vulnerable and causes

Today a transport going to Amami triggered a fierce non observable A2A battle over Amami
because the enemy carriers remained there for another day!!

Enemy lost 75 ac today, including 57 carrier fighters.
We lost 68 ac, including 24 Shindens and 14 Reppus.

Also observed a suspicious TF north of Marcus.

I finally catched up with this monster thread

. So I think I should drop a line.

The Allies will probably surrender soon. The game is simply not fair for them: You can fight with Bonsai Spirit, and they can not counter this with Beercats.

This was the day of the Uber CAP!

Again I tried to muster our offensive LBA. Had hoped the enemy would stay one more day at Amami, but nope.
Ca 1/3 of our assembled bombers and 1/4 of our assembled escort fighters launched and attacked the enemy fleets of Ishieak.
Some 210 CAP fighters shot down almost all attackers and non got through. 105 bombers an 39 fighters in all! 12 more went down in secondary strikes.

Of the 30 Franks ordered on escort only 7 came along and I can't understand why.
Spent 30 min finding all poor air leaders and replaced them.

The only comfort is that most losses were Oscars and Peggy Army bombers. They can be replaced and go back to bomb rocks
in China

Andy has stepped up bombing of Formosa and it is obvious he's planning something.

Tried a follow up attack today: Had 300 bombers and 300 escort fighters in Shanghai and organized
3 sweeps. Weather was good, but the Shinden sweep was of course grounded and the attacking ac were mostly
wiped out.

Again the bombers came out in small dribs and one mediocre drab that was completely destroyed again.
Losses in ac were high, but the losses are quite marginal in importance. Still, I can not manage to get my bases
stacked with aviation support, Air HQ and supplies to launch large and coordinated strikes and as long as Andy continues
to place half a dozen carriers in bases hexes with his fighters on CAP, we have to stand and watch.
Only mistakes and sloppiness by my opponent allows our LBA to inflict damage.

Ishieak turned into a size 1 AF today and 100 land based fighters will move in.
So no more strikes into this area unless the carriers go home.

On the other hand, our defensive preparations are continuing and I'm quite pleased.
We have large amounts of supplies and troops in the most important bases.

Yes, I really read all 154 pages, plus Wobbly's 20 (then I stopped reading the allied AAR).

I started in the autumn, can't recall exactly when, reading some pages every week. A really interesting and entertaining thread - you have huge aggression and inspiration ratings, that's for sure!

Hmm, there is a maximum of AC attacking from a single base before strike coordination rules kick in.

In case of a lvl 9 AF, this is 50x9 is 450 AC.....

You overstacked and got unlucky in the diceroll...

The problem Wild Willie, is that we never get large strikes even from large bases.
Andy on the other hand is constantly able to launch massive strikes from size 6 AF.
The penalty doesn't seem to hamper him much.

This may have something to do with the type of mission. Launching large LBA strikes against
naval targets is much more difficult than launching against ground targets.
Trying to coordinate smaller number of ac from several bases is even more impossible.

I've tried to place Air HQ, good leaders and plenty supplies and aviation support to improve
the odds, but the results have been disappointing.

As it is we are now forced to launch several smaller strikes that have to run the gauntlet
past large numbers of Hellcats and Corsairs that always intercept both fighters and bombers until
they're all gone. This is perhaps the most frustrating challenge when playing Japan in the late
war. Even if you collect ac and pilots it's not possible to put them to proper use unless you find
targets without Uber CAP.

I don't think that Andy overstacks his airfields. Even his bigger strikes contain less than 250 planes (at least according to the last three pages of this AAR).

If you want to circumvent the overstacking penalty you have to massively overstack (if you look into the manual you can do the math yourself).

Pretty sure Andy keeps 100 ac per AF size. Recon shows large number of ac in most bases.
Why don't you ask him?

On the other hand, 200 B-29s can demolish most targets, and if you add 100 P-51s you don't need
more

We on the other hand need a lot more than 2-300 ac to break through a 250 ac CAP, and this
is almost impossible. Catch22...

Rather quiet turn, only the usual scatter of air attacks.
Heavy industry pool is again growing so we're in OK shape despite everything.

When Andy launches his last major assaults we should be stocked with enough armaments
to fight until the end of the war. I'm continuing the process of re-locating Army reserves

Always nice when you manage to down some of the enemy's first line fighters with your old war horses!

Airfield attack by Army mediums in Ishieak

As I stated earlier, somehow it's much much more difficult to launch naval attacks
than ground attacks. I switched the Army bombers in Shanghai to attack the airfield at Ishieak
and a massive strike immediately took of. This is the kind of strike I'm constantly struggling to
launch against enemy TFs. Since the enemy cv's have gone home we only met a modest CAP.

Of course Ishieak was covered by squalls all day and the enemy ships there were not harmed.
Also amazing how many of our fighters 15 Mustangs and 8 Corsairs could shoot down; 3 each

Still, most losses were green pilots and Oscars and the bombers got through and plastered the place.
There are 26 units on the atoll, most engineers I guess, and ground losses were heavy and we delayed
AF construction.

I am not reading his AAR, I suppose he would go to Okinawa or Naha, or Amami, which is basically the same thing. Try to suppress the base on "south west islands" one by one, IMHO it's a bad idea, but it fits his style and imagination. Now he has total air and naval superiority, the better way is go to home islands itself. However I doubt he has the ability to execute such complex movement.

Air Combat

Another good strike and Andy hasn't increased CAP protection!
This time we brought 163 escort fighters for 109 army bombers.
20 CAP fighters brought down 72 of our fighters for the cost of 10 CAP fighters
shot down and some destroyed on the ground. This is were the A2A model is at its most
crazy. Outnumbered 8-1 the enemy fighters managed a 7-1 kill ratio

How more wrong
can you get it....

Still, more than 1000 casualties on the ground and I bet Andy will bring in LRCAP or cv's pretty soon.

Reinforcements on their way

Most major bases in the Home Island are city hexes with 9 forts. Even the isolated island
south of Hiroshima/Kure can be reinforced by 100's of transports, APs and barges that can easily
double and triple assault points there. I'm already in the process of bringing in major reinforcements
to these 'vulnerable' bases. Also building an Arm reserve near Tokyo and one further North.

It is possible that Andy doesn't have time or patience to secure the Okinawas before going against
the Home Islands, and while he may manage to capture one or two bases, he will become bogged down
and cut of pretty soon. We have 800 Shindens at our disposal and the Okinawas will provide excellent
bases from were to launch strikes at his supply train.

Not sure you should under estimate Andy's abilities to perform major and complex amph ops Trollelite.
He may be a bit sloppy at times, but he has a firm grasp of how the game works and how to land enormous
amounts of men and material in no time. Pretty sure he wants the exit the game in a blaze of glory!-)

Veery quiet, all 4Es ad Mustangs are on stand down for R&R.
Not long before the storm breaks now, almost October 5 months
and it will all be over.

It's better to stop sending out exp 30 pilots. If u don't have good pilots, simply hide your fighters somewhere else. His latest fighters ability to shot down rookie pilots is almost unlimited. He could use his carrier fighters to cap that base and the result would be disastrous for u. Hit his supply is useless, he has unlimited amount of it. Sink an AK or a MSW here or there could not really hurt him.

Most important thing about defend home islands is to make sure he never cut your army into 2 parts. If u have some fighters or bombers, perhaps u could hide them, and let him guess and worry about their whereabouts? People always fears unknown.

Sinking enemy ships and delaying the enemy is our mission and that's what we'll do!

We're running a mix of 50/50 rookie/vet pilots. Mostly the rookies are shot down in such engagements.
Enemy isn't much better of and it's a good way to practice how to organize efficient attacks at this stage of the war.

Each enemy ship sunk now is one he won't replace.
Ishieak is a size 1 port with 26 ground units - large amounts of supply will be wasted and it has to be brought
a long long way!

PS! Don't worry - we have an Air Force strategic reserve!
