Love the new game, but too much is not working. I have my computer guy here today (2-5-08). This is the forth purchase of your game-the last was the Gold Package-EFIIGOLD, etc. It did not include the Fall of The Reich as promised...
This game (current) was installed with the patch (1.02) and within two minutes I discovered the following
(I always play in Campign Mode (99%))
1) Engineer units in the game do not load pontoons in trucks assigned....Manned Boat do not load either???? This aside from the other mentioned ENG problems (i.g.-no protection in minefields??????, etc.) CAN'T PLAY LIKE THIS GUY!
2) When you pick a German Armored Corps in the Linked Campaigns, they only give you XXIV, XXXVII, XXXIX and XII w/12 Panzers-even when you click the Barbarosa choices? The equipment LOOKS correct, but the East Front II Gold does not do this. What's up with the same PZ Corps from 1941 to 45?
3) Afore mentioned no names on maps!
4) I agree with the others that it is absurd to let empty motorcycles, horses and trucks spot for artillery or air cover. This really screws up the game.
5) I can't load vehicles in the Campaign Set up mode-wasting a turn. This can be done in the other "Gold" editions-why not in the new game.
PLEASE answer what you can address-I CANNOT PLAY THIS VERSION UNTIL YOUR NEXT PATCH AS BY READING THE PROBLEMS FROM OTHERS AND FROM WHAT I HAVE FOUND ALREADY: THE GAME IS USELESS. I PLAY THIS GAME TO THE EXCLUSION OF ALL OTHERS AND IT'S MY ONE GREAT JOY IN LIFE (PATHETIC, EH?). i PLAY 30 HOURS A WEEK AVERAGE....PLEASE FIX THE NEXT PATCH AS THE GAME CANNOT BE ENJOYED WITH ALL THESE PROBLEMS.

You need an Engineer Truck AND and an Engineer. All three units (Engineer, Engineer Truck AND Pontoon ferry) must be in the same hex. Load the Engineer onto the Pontoon Ferry, then load the loaded Pontoon ferry onto the Engineer Truck. The engineer platoon will be unloaded leaving the pontoon ferry still loaded on the Engineer Truck.

In an effort to get rid of the platoon upgrade to 1SP, the order of battles were revised which corrects that problem. Instead of flagging each of the units with a "random" number - which is what the TALONSOFT version did, numbers were not randomized. 1.03 will have a selection of random units again for those that like the illusion of difference.

3) Afore mentioned no names on maps!

Just randomly generated maps. It is mostly likely doing so due to the enhanced regions to the map editors.

Trucks do not spot for artillery, never have.

Not sure why you can't, I'll have to double check as you should be able to.

Same with the engineer unit being in the hex, etc.?
Did 1.02 correct the Engineer Causualty problem?
When can we expect the 1.03 upgrade?????? (HELP!)
I apologize for including Trucks as regards Spotting Issue-but 1.03 will correct this (horses and Motorcycles), yes?
Thank you Jason-I hope you know that I really appreciate this game but GHQ probably does not: I collected GHQ for thirty years and don't need it all now...whoops! Really, this is one of the best game series ever made and I do play it every day.

Jason, FYI: with dynamic campaign Barbarosa North, when I tried to load trucks in setup mode I got message saying cannot do in setup mode. Then I tried Barbarosa South and I could load trucks in setup mode. Really wierd!
Not a big problem; all great scenario victories!

Jason-still do not know the difference with the crewed boat units as opposed to empty? How are they transported: the same way as the pontoons?????
I see timshin42 ran into the loading issue also...

"Boats" and "Rafts" are from the original game and function as they did with the original game. They are NOT truck portable.

"Crewed Boats" or "Self propelled Boats" can move across water hexes picking up infantry, dropping them off and return for more. These can be transported by Engineer Truck only using the method I described above.

"Pontoon Ferries" operate the same way, but can also carry vehicles across water hexes.

Each German corps formation should have bridging units assigned to them. Two light, one medium and one heavy seems to be the norm in most histories I read. Obviously, US UK, Russian and other countries also had bridging units. Why were these never included in the game?

They are included, whether or not they show up in the campaign is due to the nature of the program picking and choosing the units that appear in any given scenario. While there may be the proper battalion available, it is essentially up to a roll of the die if the program will pick that unit or not.

Keep in mind, these abilities are still new.

Another disadvantage of DCGs.

So the bridging units are new to the game....OK, I never saw one in East Front II-Gold or the others prior to this release.
-Jason: I'm gonna stop writing you and experiment with the game! I don't mean to be your new pain-in-the-backside! I am so excited by all these new features and greatful for your help.
I'll let you know how things go after a few campaign games and will try a few scenarios (though I rarely play these).
Please know I am greatful for your advice!

I position units to reload and often when I hit the load icon, the unit moves to the left and does not load. Usually, this leaves not enough juice to load (?). Should still be enough even with the glitch as there is half a power bar. Anoying.

In loading trucks with troops, sometimes the units move to the lower left hex next to it without loading. Then there is not enough juice on the power bar to load them-wasting a turn and leaving them behind....?

Are the units you are trying to load capable of being loaded?

What are you playing?

Can you post a screenshot or two of the issue as this is the first I have heard of it.

CAMPAIGN CRASH! - 2/15/2008 8:29:42 PM

Dude, the MOUNTED cavalry unit I just attacked from the rear with a company of tanks crashed the computer. The unit fired some twenty times...I guessed something was, and had to reboot to end the damn game. I DON'T KNOW IF MY SECOND BATTLE IN A THIS CAMPAIGN IS EVEN CAPABLE OF BEING COMPLETED...and I was kicking ass...
Really unhappy with the mass of problems in the new release. I'm about to go back to the last version until you people get this 'stuff' figured out. There are sooo many problems, but the game NEVER crashed or had any problems in prior releases!
As to the prior request:
I do not know how to, "post a screen shot" of the units which move to the lower left instead of loading. I have been playing the game since it came out-I can assure you the units being loaded were cabable of being loaded.

Rebooted and played turn again-starting with the attack on the cavalry instead of any other moves (it started in the mode it was when I began play this morning-it was a continuation of the incompleted turn played last night). The game crashed again. My wonderful tactics of 22 out of 33 turns come to naught...I suppose I could attack the cavalry with another unit and 'fool' the system, but this is not acceptable for what I paid your company. I paid for a game that worked as least as good as the last version-not worse or even unplayable.
You let me know when 1.03 is ready. I'm going back to the last version where my time is not wasted helping you with something that should have been done before release. I feel very unhappy with my purchase and will not be buying any Matrix games in the future.

The cavalry problem was an issue that came about with one of the patches, it is corrected in 1.03. Fortunately, 1.03 should be out soon. Since 1.03 has been properly BETA tested, you won't find the issues that have arrived before - as there was not a BETA team prior to 1.03.

Still unsure what the load problem is.

Taking a screen shot of the units you are trying to load and the error they are showing might help me understand what you are talking about.

Half done?

I've only noted a couple errors that you've brought up. Of those, only one I am unsure of what the issue is. Considering the vastness of the Campaign Series I would hardly call that half done.

I am upset. You do the play testing. I have advanced systems and my computer guy loads my games. Loading your game and discovering problems led to a $575 bill before we thought all was resolved...to some extent... Let me know when you get 1.03 done. As stated, I'll go back to the prior versions until the numerous problems are resolved.
Last Matrix game I will purchase.

Tim41 seems really frustrated.

I like this version of Campaign Series.

When I experience problems, I also like the responsiveness of Jason and everyone else on the forum.

I play Dynamic Campaigns only rarely, but my understanding is the most frustrating bugs were always in the Dynamic Campaigns and continue to be in the Dynamic Campaigns.  My understanding is Jason has been working on these bugs and any other bugs people encounter.

I'm sorry to hear Tim41 is having troubles with the Dynamic Campaigns.

I'm a very satisfied customer, and I'm looking forward to patch 1.03.

Jason,
The reason I knew of some of the many other problems mentioned in the forum is that when I install a game with my guy-who makes sure other data files are not comp'd, we spend time play testing the game. Each time something came up...we found it in the forum. It saves time to have him here so he's not coming back for every problem. It costs.
I thank you for your help, and I understand that all games have problems. My only general question is why the other releases have ALWAYS been fine (They worked on 95 first, then 98 and XP (I have two XP's-one for games just like this-requiring a lot of speed and memory). I even installed them myself (95 and 98 -dumb ^&*% that I am). You mention this BETA team thing. As a commercial insurance agent of 25 years, it seems the only companies not subject to product liability are gaming companies....It comes down to customer satisfaction. YOUR SERVICE IS GREAT and I would not want to be in your shoes.
In the 70's, when I play tested table top wargaming rules as an employee of Competitors Castle here in LA, we spent years in some cases to make sure that these issues were worked out.
I love the game. No doubt GHQ does not! John Tiller enabled guys who could not afford large collections to be an equal. It allowed us to realistically play large scale actions in reasonable time...and the game is just pure fun.
I REALLY HOPE 1.03 COMES OUT SOON!
Thanks and good luck: Tim41

The old version is now having problems due to the new installation of your new product. Game (old) crashed for the first time EVER. More expense. More work. Please let me know of the update via email, which you have. I am deleting the new version completely so the older versions are not effected asap.
SO FAR, THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE WASTE OF TIME. I am most unhappy with your company and product. At this point, I feel like asking for my money back for this game which does not work.

The two games are completely unrelated in the installation process. There shouldn't be any conflict at all. I run multiple copies of both on my machine with no conflicts.

Maybe the computer guy is making things too complicated? Just a thought, but it doesn't seem like too many other folks are having this much problems in installing a game, then applying the patches. I have also multiple copies of JTCS, and at least 3 copies each of EF, WF, RS, and DG, as well as numerous mods I'm working on, and haven't had any problems?! I've had these games since they first came out, and constantly fool around with them, just wondering what the guy is checking etc. What are your system specs etc, a little more info would certainly help!

At $575 I would start to wonder if I'm being taken for a fool or something, do you know this guy, and know anything of computers at all to dbl-chk things he says? Not trying to be a smart-ass, just seems a little suspicious...

Mike
