First, DW, great game for the money and very ambitious effort. I like the concept and it fills a great void for me as I haven't upgraded my FB gaming library since FBPro '99 was recalled. Been playing '98 since but decided to give MaxFB a shot during the promo.

Playing my first league and I found a couple things that sort of struck me funny. In the league creation I selected 7 round draft thinking that was for seasons following the initial draft but it was a seven round initial draft and the AI filled out the rest of the rosters. I could live with that but the way the AI filled my roster was a problem. I had only the 1 QB I drafted, 11 WR and 15 OL. That's half of my 53 man squad. Not a great use of roster spots. Is there any thought to using a min/max threshold for positions? The CPU teams all had 5 QBs which seems a little excessive too. The rosters and positions need some tweaking.

In an American style league I don't think you need to include the SB. Could some positions be activated/deactivated based on league style? That might streamline things and since I won't pretend to understand Canadian FB I won't comment on how that affects the CFL style players. Also KR doesn't need to be a separate position but rather a designation of someone already on the roster. Maybe some roster templates based on league style would simplify and solidify the AI roster management.

Just some initial observations. I am enjoying the game.

Hello, welcome, and thank you for your comments.

The SB and KR positions are fairly specific to Canadian rules. Although some US teams do have a designated KR, many Canadian teams have a special player either drafted or acquired specifically for that role.

Unfortunately you do get positions that may not be perfectly applicable to a particular league, but you can set your team profile up to not have those positions. The game needs to be common accross all league styles in this area.

The team profile is what is used to establish not only what players gets drafted but also the counts of the players on the team. So the min/max positions you're speaking of are accomplished via the team profile (what you're calling a roster template). You can save load and share team profiles.

thanks
David

Let me see if I can answer a few of these.

The reason there are team profiles are to make sure the draft isn't random.  If the initial draft is not set up with the correct rounds, the draft area of the team profile really isn't being used.  You would do better to reset and redraft.

We have discussed minimum and maximum thresholds.  The numbers one sees after the draft is high because teams pick up extra player prior to camp.  If those are not paired down prior to the season, the game will cut players down to the roster limits.

The SB player is listed with tight ends.  The CFL teams now use them more like slot receivers are used in the NFL, but one can do what one likes with the players.

We have discussed the KR position, but it doesn't hurt to have kick specialists.  I do agree there are too many of them.

There are many team profiles and there will be more.

David and the beta team have discussed issues in this area that may be enhanced in the future, but we are already testing many small changes to 2.x that David decided to put in after listening to feedback from the community and beta team members.  I am sure David will keep your comments in mind when Maximum Football 3.x is in full drive in the future.

I hope that helps. Thank you for making a post.

Also remember, after the completion of a season, and before you hit the new season button, you can change rules and such.
So, for season 1 you can set the draft for 45 or 53 or whatever, then for consecutive seasons you can change it to a lesser amount.
