I have read a lot about the radars, that they are great and such, but I don't really understand them, yet.

I know there are air search and naval search radars. But which device does what (I'm playing CHS at the moment)? The game calls everything "search radar". Is there a list somewhere?

And what exactly do these radars for me? The air search radar should scramble additional fighters if I understood that correctly. Will it improve AAA, too?

And what exactly do the naval search radars? And what is the meaning the numbers for "range" etc?

There are air search radars (for finding planes) and surface search radars for ships... in reality the two were not necessarily separate, esp. for the one shown in game.

Air search allows you to scramble fighters to intercept incoming raids.

Surface search allows you to spot enemy ships earlier, giving you tactical advantage.

Check the WITP editor to see which is which, but beware, there are several errors in the standard database. The type is actually set by the PEN(etration) parameter. As a general rule, the long range radars are air search.
