Well, I'm going to buy a copy of WITP as well as AE, seeing as I have been running a devteam download version. Always wanted an official copy and the new expansion pack effort has sealed the deal. Thanks for all the continuing effort guys.

shouldn´t you already have a copy of WITP, Ron?

Maybe you should say "Legitimate Copy"

If you watch the intro movies, you'll know that the forums biggest grump (Ron) was a beta-tester for the original WitP.

I've beta-tested several games, and inn every case, your "payment" was essentially a free copy of the game (your beta version is essetially is a valid license key that is fully playable and upgradable).

But don't be so fast to cast stones, Ron isn't running a "pirated" copy. I'm quite sure he -earned- his "free copy" as a beta.

Back in Summer 2003 I had something of a "purchasing fever". I bought too many games for the time I had to play them. So, in the end I truly enjoyed very very few of them because of lack of time or because the game wasn't really good.

Then I purchased WITP. I can safely say that no game -at all- has been present in my hard drive non-stop for four and (almost) a half years in a row in all my life. Wont' need to mention that none was played by me in 4 years in a row with the same dedication as I've played WITP, ever.

Since I bought WITP I've rarely bought any other games, so in the end it has given me:

-countless hours of great fun and enjoyement
-some memorable PBEM moments I would've never wanted to lose (jumping and shouting of pure happiness while reviewing a very sucessful turn, which is nothing but a map, some lines, some artwork and some reports...heh, who said computer games need 3D realistic graphics?)
-a more thorough understanding of a WWII theater of war I didn't really understand before.
-new friends thanks to playing vs them
-and yes, even the casual moment of anger because I was slammed, or because some minor fault in the game engine
-etc, etc etc...
-and saving money because I now rarely buy any new games...

PD: I'd say it's safe to assume that quite some of the ideas content of the expansion comes from work done by modders for their respective mods. So a BIG THANK YOU for you all out there, no matter the mod you worked on.

PD2: And what I know for sure is that what I've read in the Admiral's Edition announcement is a list of many, many, many, many requests we users have done through this last four years and a half. And that I'm sure they aren't by far all the new things the add-on brings. So the developers were actually listening and reading about our complaints, requests, suggestions and reports...
I said it some 3 years ago and I haven't changed my mind: WITP was the best computer game purchase I've ever done. Nothing compares to it. So I'll buy Admiral's Edition with closed eyes and no matter the price.
Matrix paying such attention to their customers is not the smallest of the reasons why I'll do it. I wish many other developers had such an open mind when hearing their customer base. In me, if they keep this way, they got a faithful customer for a long time to come.

Thanks VSWG. Guess some folks speed read over important details. I may be a grump sometimes but I don't take free rides.

Anybody know if we can pre order WITP AE?

Playing WitP this exclusively can be a double-edged sword. Although you do save cash by not buying other games, you can cheat yourself out of some satisfying experiences by not trying other genres, esp. as they get lower in price w/age.

I like buying popular games at $19.99, which usu. means a boxed set w/a printed manual. Combat Mission, Rome TW and other titles come to mind; of course, you may have to wait a few years!

Although I've played UV longer than any other game I've had, it's good to take a break from it as it plays "fresher" after a (relatively) long gaming absence.

Joe D. ... don't get me wrong. sure I have bought more games since I bought WITP. I did. It's just that back then I used to buy one or two per month, now I buy two/three per year, those that I know are -really- worth it, and if I can get them in low price offers, all the better...

but as for great gaming experiences matter, really there are few (if any) games that come to my mind when compared with WITP. The other games I've eventually stopped playing sooner or later...WITP I still am avidly playing four years and a half after it's release. If that doesn't mean this is the ideal game for me, nothing will ;)

I was more likely to buy computer games when I could return them in and get something back, but now that practice has ended in retail stores here, so I'm just more careful re new purchases, unless the price justifies taking a chance on a new title.

In this case, you should have a good idea by Summer just exactly what you are being offered for whatever the price turns out to be (as an "expansion pack" my guess is around $35---but "guess" is the key word. At that price it looks like it should be worthwhile.)

Well, even if it cost 100 euros...just try to compare...how many dinners in restaurants you pay with 100 euros?? 2, possibly 3...not more...How many sweaters do you buy with 100 euros? not many for sure, even if you buy 'em on the sunday markets... So eat less, dress your old sweaters from the high school and buy witpAE!

Okay, Andy, you're a scot... you need to figure into that the fact that you most likely stayed sober during all that work on AE, so you can subtract the cost of all the booze a scot would normally drink in those 1500 hours as money saved...

I really like what Ive read about AE however if they arent released as a package deal then I can't see myself paying the same price for both. WITP is an expensive game as it is.

What I would like to see in a boxed copy:

The game on DVD of course!
Detailed game manual, in color.
Large wall-sized planning map!

I'd pay $75-100 for it.

Oh, your memory is very good! Yes, after the Law College i've been working as a fashion consultant for a fashion company for a year and a half and at the same time i kept on practicing at the "superior law school". Then i abbandoned cause i couldn't stand anymore doing 2 different jobs at the same time, i concentrated myself on Law and in the last year i passed the two examinations that lead to the lawyer title.
No more fashion in my life i think

True. I'd like to see a package deal but I'd imagine many on these boards would not be impressed by that idea.

I'm debating getting another copy of WitP for my girlfriend so I'm kind of torn about whether or not to wait for AE and any package deal.

Have to upgrade my PC for AE too.

Whatever we pay, probably in the year after the release there will be a WITP GOLD  that contains WITP and AE bundled together for the same price as WITP used to be.....assuming the model follows that of other popular games.  Then a year after that, they will do a Platinum that also includes WPO in the bundle....

I mean, isn't that how it is supposed to work based on the marketing approach done by other companies.

If so, I should be finishing my most advanced PBEM right about the time the platinum bundle comes out.

If the cost comes in under $500.00 it will still be a better deal time-wise than my latest purchased toy: a new Glock 23, but the time-cost ratio will be MUCH better. AND I won't have to clean AE after every use either.
