I just fired up a new computer (QuadCore 2.4GHz, running XP, will not touch Vista)... installed 8.4, and got this message when starting the game...

after the 2 splash pages

"Directdraw Error -2147467263"

then it shuts down the game... back to the splash pages...

Help!!!

try making a shortcut direct from the mech.exe and launching the game from it.
then use compatability mode for win 98

I'm getting this error too - a shortcut straight to mech.exe doesn't help....

Any ideas?

It could be a video driver issue, but run "dxdiag" and do the tests for directdraw.
