2 DDs left LA for PH and 2 more left Seattle for North Force. A second wave of subs deployed to various Pacific locations and 4 R boats were given orders to return to Canton after their patrol. They are slower than the S boats and carry less torps, but I'll give them a try.

In the PI 3 AKs loaded the bulk of the remainder of the 119th USN Base Force at Dadjangas and are sailing to Rabaul to reuinte the unit. It was not possible to evacuate any elements of the Philipine Division as I do not have the PPs to change HQ and those I do have I'll need for Manila fragments initially.

Here is the line up at Manila.

S-7 expended her last torps this turn. S-2 will move from the Pescadores to patrol Takao. Most of my subs are staring to need work, so Martin will get some time off from my sub offensive shortly. I'll try to keep the lull as short as possible. These are the units that are redeploying from Shanghai to Hong Kong in case Martin decides to expand the war once the PI falls...

The Pre-Dreadnought USS Georgia is finally ready at Mare Island. She has sailed with 2 DDs to join North Force. With todays arrivals there are now 23 upgraded DDs at PH.

At Mare Island the 9th Bomb Squadron upgraded to Martin NBS-1s. As can be seen below they are the only level bombers that BBs need fear. It just a shame they do not have a greater range.

Elements of 1/15th US Regiment were loaded onto S-4 at Manila. The fragment of 31st US regiment is unloading in Canton. S-3 is moving from Tainan to Takao to replace the departing S-2. The Far East Squadron DDs Zane and Dorsey, heavily damaged in the defence of the PI, finally made Colombo where they have disbanded for repair and eventual upgrade.

3 Japanese units are on their way to Dadjangas to finish me off.

It's a shame WPO combat reports do not show the adjusted values. Does anybody know what they would be for Manila with no forts, but a fair bit of supply? I believe it's a 4 x multiplier for the urban hex which would give me an AV of about 2000.

This is the line up at Manila. AP President Madison arrived at Manila this turn and she has loaded 1000 points worth of HQ troops and will attempt to run the blockade to get to Canton. She had space for 5000 more, but if I left her there for more than one day Martin would have been even more ready for her.

In China my Cruiser force is safely into Canton. I am trying to work out the best place to send the cripples. Hong Kong is out as the British do not want to invite an attack.

Martin has a "CA" at Shanghai. I think more mines are being laid...

Not much happening...

AK Steel Age was taken in hand to covert to an AE at Mare Island.

President Madison got away from Manila and the AK Paz arrived and has started to unload 500 tons of supplies. S-2 has sailed from Canton to increase the sub patrol off Takao.

Here are the US ships currently under repair/undergoing upgrades at Singapore:

Laddie... I want to thank you for making this AAR. It prompted me to restart my WPO game against the AI (between CHS PBEM turns).

I'm impressed with the way your war has progressed. By keeping it to a Japan-US war, it seems that he has the major advantage in the early going. It will be interesting to see how well you march back across the Pacific without the specialized amphibious equipment of WW2.

My game versus the AI has been the exact opposite. It has reached Oct, 1926 (playing the '26 scenario, obviously). After capturing Mindanao and landing troops at Laoag and Aparri (I'm using the AB map mod), the AI has gone to ground. The international army destroyed the NLF at Shanghai and I them moved most of the British troops to Hong Kong just as you have now done.

It appears that the AI has no naval forces in the central Pacific (I'm now sending the Lexington/Saratoga SCTF on a sweep through the Marshalls to make sure), so I am now getting ready to perform the relief operation. I have an Infantry Division, a Cavalry Division, a Corps HQ and a Corps Artillery unit preparing for the PI, with 4 modern BBs, 2 CLs and plenty of DDs to escort them across the Pacific.

There has been plenty of naval combat in my game, mainly night combat which has been largely inconclusive. I've sunk a CL and two DDs in naval combat while having had a few ships seriously damaged. That's it.

I have an FC-1 fighter squadron, a DH-4 bomber squadron and a SC-1 torpedo squadron at Clark Field - which the enemy has yet to march upon. The a/c have made a few naval attacks, getting some bomb hits but no ships sunk. Strangely enough, the AI has been concentrating subs along the Great Barrier Reef.

Hi Brad

Thanks very much. I had a go with a campaign against the AI and I must confess I much prefer PBEM. It sounds like you'll beat the AI pretty soon. My march back across the Pacific will take a lot of time I think. I have the Northern route as a possible alternative and assembly rights in Brisbane. It looks like China will be the main battle area after the fall of the PI and I am pitifully weak there. The Dutch must also be vulnerable. Now the French have buddied up to the Brits I do not think Dixie will want to risk pulling them into the fight. When I started the 1926 scenario with Wolfie I found the increased Carrier and air unit availability very useful and I am envious!

Very best regards

Carl

221 Group RAF loaded at Karachi for Singapore. S-4 unloaded a fragment of 1/15th US Infantry at Canton.

Future plans under consideration : a) The united Chinese forces at Kaifeng (when ready) will attack the Northernmost Japanese units south of Tientsin; b) 4 BB Pac Flt BBs will be detached and will sail for Soerabaya to raise morale amongst the Dutch.

Here is the list of units engaged at Manila. Martin has now gathered all units available on Luzon.

The AK torpedoed (again) this turn sank. AP Hendersen is unloading 808th EAB at Midway.

Interestingly enough a fragment of the same EAB was loading aboard S-8 at Manila. S-15 took some more HQ troops and S-16 elements of the PAF Aviation regiment. S-4 is sailing from Canton for Manila also.

1st UK FA regiment arrived at Hong Kong from Karachi with a few thousand tons of supplies.

Here is a list of the ships at Canton. As you can see I have very little fit to fight, but I should be awash with Destroyers within 2 months. The Chinese Cruisers will sail shortly to be repaired abroad to US account...

The SOPAC force is almost assembled. They would be of no real use, but would hopefully forestall an invasion if Martin had not commited a proper escort.

S-5 loaded more of the 31st US regiment at Manila and sailed for Canton. A small AP is one hex out from Manila. AP President Madison arrived at Canton and the elements of USAFFE HQ aboard have been oredered to unload. S-3 has replenished and been given orders to return to Takao. I did not change the skipper in the end as his stats say he is half decent. Hopefully his luck will change.

The situation in China is tense. My reserves are still assembling at Kaifeng. After a strong diplomatic protest Japanese forces are supposed to be withdrawing from Tientsin. More Japanese units have appeared in the area from the North. A French Armoured unit is moving to Nanning to protect the railway to Canton and British forces will be moving to Canton to protect their lines of communication as soon as they become available.

40000 tons of supplies for Pearl Harbour are loading onto 8 AKs at Mare Island. As reinforcements for Dutch Harbor and the first units of the new North Force are only 1 hex out, USS Missoula and USS Seattle (2 large 21 kt Armoured Cruisers) are sailing for Pearl Harbor to join Pac Flt.

Here is a look ahead to my air reinforcements.
