I get that the (often hopelessly) inaccurate intel in BOB2 is supposed to be FOW, but I was just thinking whether it was possible to turn this FOW off.
If the inaccurate intel is due to a FOW setting in the game, the real numbers must be there too, somewhere.
I mean, you can't distort something without knowing it's original form...
So, would it be possible to get to this accurate intel and have it show up instead of the distorted one?

I know some people think FOW adds to the realism and immersion, but I find the FOW in BOB2 somewhat frustrating and would find it much more immersive to actually be able to see whats going on in this beast of a game.
With so much information before you, it's feels quite unsatisfying to have it presented to you in such a distorted way - realistic or not.

So, any chance of an "accurate intel" setting with an upcoming patch?
Maybe keeping the pre-combat intel inaccurate, but using the true numbers in the post-combat reports, both on the debriefing screens and in the squadron records.
This possibility would be a great improvement to a great game...!

Hi briny,

Sarge is helping us take a look at the reports now to see if we can fix some bugs he has spotted.

The "claims information" for both the RAF and LUF was always historicly wrong ( I base this on History and a super book I usr for BOB reference, "The Most Dangerous Enemy" by Stephen Bungay). You are asking the game to ignore this historic fact. The fact is the commander of the RAF or the LUF really did not know what was going on numbers wise during the BOB.

That said, as we are working on the campaign reports and learn some of the campaign code, I will look into a possible Bdg.txt option for accurate reporting if it is not too risky or costly. We will also try to fix the bugs as best we can.

Right, Sarge, a lot of intel in this game, should have specified.
I'm talking about the "claims information", as buddeye calls it. But I suppose my suggestion would concern any kind of intel in the game.
And yes, I certainly acknowledge the sense in making "claims information" historically inaccurate - I wouldn't wan't to do without such a feature myself.
But I think a lot of people (including myself) would also enjoy playing with "accurate intel", for many different reasons. And I think the inclusion of such a feature would mean a lot to many players.
I, personally, would find it very immersive to be able to see the effects of my strategies more clearly than what is currently possible, and accurate 'kills and losses' information is always fun, I think - realistic or not.
Changing the FOW in other areas, though, would be problematic.
For example, if the RAF player always had perfect intel on incoming raids from the minute the planes got airborne over France, the game would be more or less ruined (to me, anyway).
But still, if it's no big deal to remove the FOW then a possibility to do so through a setting in the BDG-file would be very welcome.
Of course the best way to do it would be to have several FOW settings:

Normal: FOW as it is now (but with fixes to the combat reports which I agree seem porked to some extent).
Accurate kill info: FOW still there, except all information on kills and losses in combat-reports, squadron-history and campaign overview are accurate.
Accurate kill and damage info: Same as above but also showing accurate damage reports on ground installations.
No FOW: No FOW whatsoever.

But I'm guessing that might take quite a lot of coding work to accomplish...

don't know exactly what intel you lookin at but i always find the 'review' screen is very accurate...

just look at the destroyed and damaged numbers for your own and the enemy and that tells you exactly how you are going.

Hi again briny,

I forgot about it when I posted before, sorry.

Have you tried:

Options->Sim->Mission

setting Luftwaffe Intell = Accurate

Sorry if you already play this way. I have no information on it as I always play Historic.

hmmm, I didn't think of that one either :)

I also play on Historic

with out going into details, they have found some stuff that needed some work and have been working on it, trying to get some of the little glitches out of the way

Von, got to disagree a little bit here, keep a eye on the review screen, it didn't always keep info even close, I shoot down 5 110s on day one, on day two I shoot down 30, on day three I shoot down 25, end of day 3, the LW has lost 5 110s

we getting it better

Well, that might make a difference... Thanks.
So I guess it's mostly the combat reports that are a problem - but it seems you are trying to deal with that.
Looking forward to see how it turns out.

First off, let me say that Buddye is good, if he/we can find it, he can fix it, but got to find it first

second off, have you looked at the recon photos of the targets ?

those are sweet

Ah yes, I love those too.
Sending in recon aircraft and being able to watch the actual photos afterwards - that sure is sweet.
Unfortunately I've had a few crashes when trying to view the photos - doesn't happen every time but it does make me a little less inclined to use the feature.
All in all this game has so many small, cool features. I'm really looking forward to the see how the next game on this engine will turn out (Flying Tigers).
