I am looking for a game like this, but I want to make sure it is worth buying. I want a game where I could design it as a high school game or college game and want full control. Also how well do option plays work? Any input would help greatly in my decision.

options plays....not an option as of yet (unless that has changed with 2.2?)  there are ways of getting around running the option.  i made all three possible plays with outcomes of the triple option (FB, HB, QB), then the cpu generates which play is used.

i'm sure that the game in the future will have an option.  the great thing about this game is that the makers are constantly making updates and improvements based on our feedback.

if you want a game that is not like madden, then you should buy MF.  it's not perfect, but it's addictive and has tons of options.

Well, you can pretty much make MaxFB become football at whatever level you want. You can simulate college and high school.

Now, what you might mean by 'full control' may depend. Regardless of the level of football you want to play, Max functions in pretty much the same way. You stock teams via a standard draft. Players will play for different lengths of time based on which level you choose. College is 5yrs, high school 4(im pretty sure).

If you go to the main site and read the features, that pretty much lays it out. There are no financials, and no scouting for college level. As I said, regardless of level, you stock your teams via the draft.

I love this game. It would be great for High School play. You won't be able to stop playing it. If you are going to use arcade mode you need an xbox 360 gamepad. There are tons of downloads at www.fbmax.com

The only thing missing is online play/ The Slow Sim (like Fbpro) and The GM Mode but I don't really care about the GM mode.

The wait is over for me and many others

I suppose my only question would be if I bought v2.2.7 (or wherever it is) would you get V3.0 as a patch when it comes out? (aka am I only paying for the game once?)

I was very impressed with how quick 2.2.7 came out to address the issues of 2.2 I am now considering buying now even with no online play provided of course the game is supported and i'm not buying a new version every few months :)

Greetings Hoop.

Maximum-Football 3.0 will be a paid update. However the release of that version is a long way off so it's not like you would be paying for something again in a few weeks or even in a few months. I still have additional plans for the 2.0 variants and those will be free to existing customers.

thanks
David

Hey Hoop27, I say join the club

David doesnt charge for updates....all of the updates you've seen from the original release to current(2.2.70)are patches and upgrades.

Version 3.0 is, as I understand it, a 'next years game' as in going from Madden 02 to 03, or FootballPro 97 to FootballPro98, so it would be a new purchase.

Which also means that now is a good time to climb aboard the bandwagon as you can join the rest of us in bombarding David with our wishlists for ver 3.0.

What this game gives me is the ability to play football, not only at different levels, but also different eras. I'm probably the oldest man on this forum and I'm fascinated with the days before facemasks- leather helmets and the early days of plastic helmets. With this game I can simulate that style of play and create uniforms to reflect the era. I've posted 3 game play videos on UTube- highlights of a game between Air Force & Oregon (1964 League) & highlights of a game between Tennessee & Army (Best of the 1940's League). The Tennessee-Army highlights are divided into 2 videos, one for each half. Check them out. They should give you a good idea of some of the things you can do with MaxFB.
Another reason I like MaxFB is simply that it isn't just a joystick game. I wear bifocals and have arthritis in my hands so a joystick game is not fun at all for me. With my coaching background, I like something can gives the feel of coaching football. The PDS in MaxFB is the best one I've ever used. If you like to construct plays that look like the real thing, this is the only current game that allow this. FBPRO98 has a great play editor, but I think this one is better. The problem with FBPRO is that Sierra junked that line of products. I have FBPRO98 but it won't run well with Windows XP.

3.0 will not be a patch.  It will be a new version of the game.  It is over a year away, so consider it next year's game.

You shouldn't have to purchase a new game every few months.  There are some considerations about a content expansion pack for 2.x down the road with stadiums, playbooks, and some other add-ons, but the charge would be minimal.  If you are looking forward to Maximum Football 3.0, then I'd recommend picking up Maximum Football 2.2 at this time - if nothing else but to get in on a playbook/gameplan online league.

I would say that now, after the depth chart situation has been addressed in the new patch(which drove me crazy), that this game is definetly worth the bucks. I believe now it is head and shoulders above Madden. Madden is a great dog and pony show with no brains. The Curvaceous Venus like Blonde Brainless Bimbo you do a one nighter with but wouldn't take home to mama. Maximun Football is the girl you take home to mama.
The only problem you may have is keeping yourself from mainlining it, forgetting your job, wife ,kids, health, etc.,etc.. There is literally thousands of hours of playtime potential here. Possibilities with MF2.0 are damn near endless.
Scarey really.

Saw 'Leatherheads', the movie yesterday and instantly thought of Old Coach's stuff he's created through MF. Pretty good movie, too.

Oh yeah. Get the game. It's excellent in my book.

This game reminds me of OOTP.  When it first came out Markus was slaughtered by the established game fan boys (Diamond Minds, Baseball Mogul, etc..) as a miserable upstart and personally attacked him for even having the audacity to compete.  Now 8 years later, Diamond Minds is in OOTPs shadow.  I think you are about to see the game that sets the bar for strategy football games.

One more question then. How do sliders work? is there a slider system or is there something similar to the madden.ini file?

Reason I ask is I helped out a little with Redwolf's project NFL for 07 (I refused to buy 08 out of principle lol) and of course I am looking for a close in game sim (coach mode) as possible.

Maximum Football doesn't have sliders, but it does have constants files for both the 3D live game and the sim game that is used to run league games that are not played live.

Those files can be tweaked to get the game stats more to your liking, but in 3D mode, the playbooks and gameplans are a major factor on how the results will play out.  Just as in real world football, shabby playbooks and gameplans will yield shabby results.
