Naturally it is nice to see something pointedly impressive beside ones name.

But considering that we have the Art of Wargaming forum here (which will almost certainly pump out a lot of promotions for no real worth).

Aditionally I have seen a lot of posts since first finding Matrix Forums that are in most cases "hi hello" grade posts that say nothing.

As a result, I suspect we are going to see a lot of people with excessively impressive credentials that have no established worth.

Then there are the tech forums, which will also pump out a lot of posts. I think hardships are an odd way of gaining promotions too.

Of course we all know these promotion terms dont reeeeally mean anything (which of course makes me ask, why are we using them then?).

I thought it was nice being called a Matrix "Veteran" eventually. But the only thing that had any meaning to me was my member number. I was happy to be known as 210? (cant remember the absolute actual number sorry). But that number said I was one of the long time users. Those numbers told new people the only thing that mattered. It said yes this dude has been here a long time.

Now it looks like the numbers are gone? Drat!:(

While I would like a promotion (who won't want to see the cool name beside there name eh), I am not likely going to post several thousand posts just to inflate my ego.

But I am wondering if a lot of new members will be wondering about just who are the real veterans of the site?

Of course I still at least have my date of entry to the forum listed:)

Not quite as impressive as having one of the low numbers impressively listed though:(

Just testing here. If I'm figurung correctly this is a reply that would enable me to put a different subject to the thread within my own post if so desired, so I'll give it a whirl (besides, I can see what kind of silly rank I've accumulated).

Along the line of the # of posts, is it only me or the # of posts of each users has been reduced ?
i'm sure I was far above the 400's...

I am not sure this is even a possible function, but something I saw trhis morning sparked my interest....

Is it possible to have the number of posts made relevant to each specific forum (so that a person with say 1000 posts but say only 400 in Steel Panthers WAW be only awarded 400 posts in Steel Panthers WAW?

This would at least identify a person that was active in a specific forum to its other users. In this way we would know who was truely a veteran in the eyes of the viewer (or at least a veteran of that particular forum)

Good idea Sarge, but on the other hand I think people using this forum recognize those real veterans and such, because we have been reading the posts written by them for a long time. On the other hand I think we also recognize who is contributing a lot with their detailed posts, more than "hi hello". But put in the right context that can also be a good post.

It is a good idea with "ranks" for us addicts at this forum, but I don't think that is the only motivation for people writing here.

Now when the forum was down for almost 2 weeks, I could sleep 20 minutes longer every morning because I did not have to reserve that time for going to this forum before work.

Thumbs up for the ranks!

Peter Hellman,

out of the topic:
you should advise yr mister Adolf Ehrnrooth that there was somebody saying the same phrase a couple of millenium before him, in the Roman Empire "si vis pacem, para bellum" :D

Well, the guess the old army concept of "ticket punching" for promotions has just been given a new lease on life within the hallowed halls of the Matrix forums. ;) Of course, I would not stoop to the level of numerous meaningless postings just to advance my "rank".

I think the 5000 post category should be changed to: Member who has no life. :) If you don't work for Matrix and attain 5000 posts, you must seriously have your sanity evaluated. Forum addiction should be some sort of perversion.

But actually these mean nothing anymore, because you can set your member title as you like. So I even I can be matrix hero :)
