Hey Matrix guys, Wonderful job with SP:WAW! ***** out of 5! Now, how difficult would it be to create a surface navy wargame based on the SPWAW game engine? It seems that this engine could be fairly easily adapted to do naval battles with something like the following parameters: 500 to 1000 meters per hex, 10 to 15 minutes per turn, with control over individual ships. SPWAW already has small ships built in. Could they be expanded on? I think it would be great to re-fight the Coral Sea, the pursuit of the Graf Spee, or even earlier battles like Juttland and Tsushima. Heck, we might even relive the Monitor vs. CSS Virginia (though I HATE stalemates)! What could be noisier than a REALLY big-gun duke-out between the Missouri and the Yamato? Just some rambling thoughts, guys, and (hint) I would buy it! (Price is right, of course.) I’m relatively new here, so excuse me if I’m stirring up old sh*t. Again, thanks for SP:WAW. Life is good. O. Bradley

SPWAW Engine has been pushed to the limit, look for the "Uncommon Valor" game to suit your naval needs until "War In The Pacific" is finished next year, time to move on from the outdated Steel Panthers engine.

Disappointing :( . . . SPWAW outdated? Perhaps by today’s 3D \ OpenGL \ DirectX standards, but that doesn’t mean it is no longer FUNctional. The great thing about this “outdated” technology is it doesn’t rely on graphics to keep the player entertained . . . most of the entertainment comes from utilizing the player’s ability to think. That type of gaming has been around for thousands of years, and won’t be going away any time soon. War in the Pacific and Uncommon Valor will be great games in their own right but they won’t quench my thirst for naval action. As far as I can tell, they’ll still use large-formation counters, are still predominantly land actions, don’t take me to the close tactical scale that SPWAW does, and they’re stuck in the Pacific. However, that doesn’t mean I won’t play them. I’ll keep fantasizing anyway  . . . thanks for the response. O.B.

i've been trying to get some small ships working for my Pacific campaign - PT boats and destroyers. The Italians have a cruiser icon which i'm using as the destroyer (it is four hexes, or 400meters long :) ) I've made both Jap and US destroyers, and Patrol boats for both navies. I even made Torpedos, by using a 16" gun as a model, changing the graphic to a 'anti tank missle', and ammo of 4. The graphics are awesome, this little thing swooshing throught the water. Unfortuneatly, i can't ever get the ships to sink. The matrix guys have given me some hints, but nothing has seemed to work yet. I'm not intending to have naval battles with these units. They are really supposed to be 'eye candy', and surprise elements within scenarios of my campaign.
