I know that y'all have heard this before, but is this game really worth the 70-ish bucks? I love the time period, but we morticians aren't paid too much, so this would be a pretty big investment.

So, what do you think?

Kept me going, on and off, for 4 years.  That's worth $70 IMHO.

I paid close to $150 AUD at the time (orded a hard copy as well) and if I knew how good the game was I would have been prepared to pay more.

It does not matter what they charge I will buy the AE edition.

The best was game I have ever played.

Been playing for about 3 years and find it worthwhile. Only caveats are the learning curve, the amount of time it will take you from all other activities and that it really is best played by e-mail. Finding a good opponent can be tough but with the expansion coming I think there will be numerous eager players to play.

I recommend cutting ones teeth on the AI. Then accept that, depending on your opponent in e-mail, that your first couple games will be a learning experience. IMHO opinion the game is the best of its type available. Besides your experience as a mortician will probably equip you well with the patience and attention to detail that this game can require

On a dollar per hour basis, this will probably be the cheapest game you ever purchase - if you love detailed games that require careful consideration. You'll have all the time you want to make your decisions (unless you have a particularly impatient opponent! - I don't ), and will be playing the game for years to come.

I'm starting to stockpile computer parts so that I'll be able to keep a computer running on XP (or any system that will play WITP) for the rest of my life...

Be warned, this is not your average wargame. If you go into it with the right expectations, it can be an amazing game. If you go in unprepared, its very easy to be overwealmed (sp).

If you want to cut your teeth before getting in the "bleep", Uncommon Valor is a great choice. It has a greater focus, Guada May 42-Dec 43, with scen covering different dates and some "what ifs" (if midway never happened).

It was the test bed for WitP. I would not recommend going from WitP to UV though, so if you've made up your mind, don't bother looking at UV.

If your a gronard who revels in the things that turn normal people off about this game, then /agreed.

The expansion is called Admirals Edition, supposed to be released this summer I think, price is unknown . Still look under the AE(admirals edition) portion of the forum to see what new treats are on their way. I have many hopes that this expansion will improve the game, my only worry is that it may make the learning curve even more intimidating.

As a citation of that curve let me give an example. I was the Japanese player and had taken Port Moresby. My opponent had set up a good fighter base at Thursday Island about 5 hexes away. I was exited to see some ships moving about 8 hexes away and set my Betty bombers for naval attack with escort from some A6M2's I had on site. Sadly my forces picked a single transport at Thursday Island to attack, many P-38's ruined my day and my squadrons . Being aware of what the situation is around your units is VERY necessary IMHO, yet somehow it also adds to the fun that the game can provide.

One bonus of this game is that it's community is very active. Check the postcount if you have any doubts. Many times I've asked dumb questions and been given good advice. If you choose to play you will find the game satisfying if your willing to bash through the initial torrent of information. Remember that Nimitz had a staff to filter all this stuff for him

Played Gary's Pacific War from 1995 to 2004 and WITP from 2004 to now. Well worth the 100 dollars I spent on both games.

It's definitely worth it. Just don't be put off my turn 1 of the grand campaign! That turn takes everyone hours to plot. Turns 2 and later go much faster.

I'd suggest playing WITP for a while before tackling AE. I'm sure there will be some players who would like to play some shorter WITP scenarios. Do that - THEN (if interested) make the jump to AE.

If the learning curve for WITP is a cliff, then playing AE from the start would be something like 'falling of the edge of the world'. (Rock on Ronnie James!!)

Nope.......not worth the price asked. 70.00 is way too little.

This is like asking crack addicts if the stuff they love is worth it....

Of course this game is worth it!  But the cost is more than dollars - just ask those of us who have dedicated time to this that might otherwise be spent on spouses, girlfriends (hopefully most of us don't have both a spouse and a girlfriend), pets, jobs, school, exercise, reading, our place of worship, etc...

No question in my mind that this is the best game ever.  But some of you guys need to hush about the "worth it at any price" talk...those of us that aren't independently wealthy are concerned that Matrix will set the price of AE like a crack dealer sets the price of crack for his most addicted customers....

Once you buy it, you won't regret it, and once you have it, you will die if you can't play it.

I truely try not to, but I for one will buy it at almost any price. ALMOST. I have to be honest and say, I have gotten more enjoyment from this 70.00 game than my 3,000.00 TV.

I'd pay double for AE, but that's just me I suppose.

Absolutely worth it. Not too many things you can spend $70 on and then enjoy for years. As for the upcoming expansion, AE requires WitP, so there's no benefit in waiting.
