  • 124.> Crash after re-building with SE

    Crash after re-building with SE.

    1. Run [PDb] Crash after re-building with SE (3.9.0).scn in GE
    2. After 15 seconds, game crashes with "Al Udeid Air Base cannot intercept replenishment source unit A/B Ammo Dump [Hardened]"
    3. Scenario works fine in 3.8.0 and problem only occurs after re-building with 3.9.0 SE

  • There's a bug where for some reason scens designed with earlier versions would trigger an attempt by land units to replenish after a rebuild. This is partly due to the fix to the replenishment handling and Russell has had to tweak it a little further to remove this issue. This problem is a duplicate of #81, same issue different scen. I reckon you're cheating if you count it twice...

I've tested the 3.9.1 Patch Beta and the crash no longer triggers and Unrep is still functioning perfectly. Looks like another one bites the dust.

    Cheers

    Darren

    1. Load AxisEvil.scn and PlayersDB into ScenEdit.
    2. Select Scenario Rebuild - Re-build All Units
    3. CTD

  • The crash will only occur if the PC you're using isn't up to rebuilding this scenario. The scen weighs in at 5,541KB! So we are dealing with something a little out of the ordinary here. Of course the complainant says nothing about the sheer size of the scenario...

I knew from experience that attempting to rebuild this monster was going to possibly cause issues, and it did due to my system config. Russell and I have both tested this one out and I returned a crash with a "special" error message in the shell window. OUT OF MEMORY - ERROR. The size of the scen and the sheer number of inter connected units means there may be some looping of certain rebuild functions and the scen fills up the PC's RAM, then empties any excess data to the Windows pagefile. If the scen crashes it is due to the system Pagefile reaching its limit.

Users will become aware of this as their PCs will slow markedly and you may even lose some functionality as the pagefile nears its limit. Russell was able to rebuild the scen successfully and knowing my config, the error I received was caused by a limit I have placed on the system pagefile. We will be looking at some limits that the game is capable of handling in terms of sheer unit numbers etc and rebuilding etc on some different systems in the near future for comparison purposes and in an attempt to find out exactly what ANW can handle.

    Cheers

    Darren

I'm not asking for any to be spent on it, but this is far from a non-issue for running a MP server, since the shell window doesn't close, the batch file to restart ANW Server cannot run so with 3.90 there is a whole lot more hand holding of the server than there was in prior versions.

    Tony,

Received and understood. I'll discuss with Russell. Let's hope we minimise the crashes so you don't have to nurse the baby along too much. How often is this an issue when running your server?

  • Confirmed this issue. Caused by basic database edits and removal of the original loadout assigned to this aircraft. Awaiting confirmation on inclusion of fix (Scenario edit) in 3.9.1.

This issue is caused where a previously valid loadout and one that was used when the scen was designed to be assigned to this aircraft type is no longer valid for the aircraft type. Requires correct, now valid loadout to be placed on the aircraft in question during Air Ops ready process in Scenedit.

I ran Lesson VI using 3.90 and the standard ANW database, and found that with Weapons Free selected - and the default preference - the AI did NOT fire the F/A-18's (off the Roosevelt) Harpoon at the hostile surface contact regardless of how close its range was. Eventually, as it passed over the Krimsky, the Hornet was destroyed. However, it did fire when I took manual control. Same behavior with the F-14's attack with a Phoenix, targeting the TU-16. Would not fire under AI control, but did launch under my manual control. It seems as if the AI is not firing missiles from jets off the Roosevelt.

Forgive me if others have pointed out this situation or it is a common result of mishandling the scenario. But it is repeatable, in different databases. I tried a recent version of the Players DB with the same results.

Laramie, were the targets identified as hostile? I believe the AI will not fire until the targets are positively identified as hostile and that happens with visual contact, if they fire on you or if you manually designate them as hostile (H key).

Shemar, I take it I'm the only one seeing this, so must be something I'm doing. But - targets are red - ID as hostile I believe, but not identified by name until much too close for the Kriminsky. In any event, I believe the Tutorial suggests first leaving the Hornet on Weapons free, to demonstrate that it will launch Harpoons when in range, then turn and RTB. My Hornet will fly to the target when following Tutorial instructions for Airborne intercept routine. But it will die rather than surrender its Harpoon to the Communists.

Visual ID range would appear to be a death sentence for the AI?

For the TU-16 encounter, the F-14 just circles around it although its status indicates prosecuting target. Weapons free.

That is what I was wondering, if the targets were indeed red. I have not encountered your problem but that is because I never play with weapons free. I generally don't let the AI do anything for me, if it was up to me I'd even be firing the chaff and flares manually!

    Thanks Darren, unscientific numbers...

When the players are experienced in MP play 10% of sessions result in a server crash that does not auto-recover.

When the players are not experienced in MP play, 20% of sessions result in a server crash that does not auto-recover.

    Tony,

Looks like you're suggesting the crashes occur with double the frequency when we have people with lesser experince at operating the server. It would be good to work on what the inexperienced are actually doing to cause the increased crashes, in game, as they are setting up during play etc. You would have to be the expert in server function and I'd be more than happy to get any ideas you have on this to help with both greater stability and ease of use.

    Cheers

    Darren

  • 150.> Over-filled magazines

Over-filled magazines not detected and fixed.

--> Confirmed issue by reconstructing the test situation using the HUD3. Issue has been entered into Mantis for rectification.(09-Apr-08)

Sorry everyone, had a life to deal with for a couple of days. Anyway, I've confirmed this issue. Had some problems myself. Herman has the issue listed as a 3.9.0, but when I opened it the ammo dump was showing Damage: Hit - 243%.

I know this means the scen is really from 3.8. The latest release, 3.9.0 has a new land damge model based on the current minis system. Any scenario not rebuilt with the current version of scenedit will display weird facility damage when opened. Regardless I've built a new test scen and confirmed the issue. It's already in Mantis so this could very well bite the dust in 3.9.1.

    Cheers

    Darren

  • 166.> UnRep for 2 ships only

Only 2 ships can conduct UnRep at the same time even though the ship has ability to replenish 2 ships to port and 2 ships to starboard.

  • Correct, this shows a basic misunderstanding of the database capability flags.

The following DB flags apply to support vessels:

    • Refuel to Port Out x 1
    • Refuel to Port Out x 2
    • Refuel to Port Out x 4

    • Refuel to Starboard x 1
    • Refuel to Starboard x 2
    • Refuel to Starboard x 4

      &

    • Replenish to Port x 1
    • Replenish to Port x 2
    • Replenish to Port x 4

    • Replenish to Starboard x 1
    • Replenish to Starboard x 2
    • Replenish to Starboard x 4

These values indicate the number of transfer stations per side for the replenishment vessel in question. They DO NOT indicate the number of vessels capable of being handled per side for the support vessel.

As such they act as a "multiplier" for transfer rate.

    Example:

Base rate of fuel transfer = 8 tons/minute (from DB)

Ship capability = Refuel to Port Out x 2 (based on port side unrep evolution)

    Therefore final transfer rate = 2 (transfer stations) x 8 tons = 16 tons/minute.

    Cheers

    Darren

This is the current status of our bug list after the latest patch.  The patch introduced some new bugs (See three quarters of the way down).

    quote:

A comprehensive third-party list of 171 * Known Harpoon [ANW] Issues has been exhaustively collected on HarPlonkHQ since the release of Harpoon ANW 3.7.0 Now that the 3.9.2 patch has been released, the list has been checked to see what has changed. While it is by no means definitive, it is believed that:

These 13 behaviours appear to have been resolved by the 3.9.2 patch:

  • Bomb will not release

Bomb will not release in 3.9.0, but releases just fine in 3.8.0
  • Crash after re-building with SE

    Crash after re-building with SE.
  • Crash after re-building with SE II

Crash after re-building with SE. Clock will not start.
  • Crash after re-building with SE III

Crash after re-building with SE. Clock will not advance.
  • Entire bombload not dropped

Bomber will attack target with only one bomb and refuse to drop the remainder of the payload.
  • Land facility reports abandoning ship

Damage report states that crew is abandoning ship on a land facility.
  • TALD cannot be engaged

TALD will not be engaged as they fly across target.
  • Sonobuoy battery endurance

Battery endurance for sonobuoys is irrelevant.
  • Crash during UnRep

Game will crash/freeze up with infinite loop if replenishment ship moves during attempted UnRep rendezvous.
  • Group and Unit speed incongruent

Group and Unit speed are incongruent for the same unit.
  • TALD cannot be ignored

TALD cannot be ignored as they fly towards player units.
  • Total loss of unit control

Player loses control of all units in the middle of a game.
  • Fly off the world CTD

It is possible to 'fly off of the world' and cause CTD.

These 158 behaviours do not appear to have been resolved by the 3.9.2 patch:

  • AAA fire

AAA guns are not limited by the altitude of the target and can even shoot down satellites.
  • Automatic contact classification

The true type classification of a contact is automatically revealed when it is designated hostile by the hotkey.
  • Group Nav Zone Settings

The Nav Zone settings for a Group are not adopted by the individual units forming that Group. i.e. If you order a TF to avoid Ship Threat Zone [A], the Group icon will avoid the Threat Zone but the individual ships of the Group will sail into the Threat Zone.

Work-around solution: Set the Nav Zone parameters for each unit individually.
  • Identification failure

Sometimes, when you hit the Database button for a unit, only one possible identity is shown but the unit display will still describe it as Unknown.
  • Subs in groups

Subs joined with groups are automatically assigned a formation patrol zone on the ASW axis that cannot be changed or modified.
  • Hangar overload

It is possible to land many more aircraft than the hangar capacity allows.
  • AI inside Minimum Launch Range

If an AI unit finds itself inside the Minimum Launch Range of its weapons, it is unable to move away in order to fire its weapons.
  • MAD contact for ground facilities

The MAD detector is able to detect ground facilities.
  • ARMs cause planes to hang

Aircraft armed with Anti-Radiation Missiles and bombs will continue to hang over a target once the bombs are released if they have not fired their ARMs. This will occur even if ARMs cannot be fired at the target in question.
  • Opening 3.6.3 scen causes crash

Opening this scenario in ANW causes Crash. Scenario opens and runs fine in H3.6.3

    Plane totally ignores Nav Zone
  • Mission ignores target list

Targets not restricted to target list for mission.

Here is what could be an installation error on my part; but something to check.

I discovered that I had two AAlog.ini files, one in the disabled and one in the enabled folder. ANW then treats it as AAlog disabled (where I had intended anabled because otherwise nuclear bombs do not explode).
This after install of 392 patch.

I suspect that as I always use AAlog enabled, the patch added an additional one in the disabled folder. As this impacts in 392 the ability to use nuclear weapons, I thought it wise to report.

    Hi all,

    I discovered another bug:

    ICBM overflies target

I have a scen where the player fires a ICBM from a Typhoon-class sub to a groud target about 450nm away. In 3.9.2 The missiles overfly the target and explode in a nuclear explosion, but do not damage the target. In 3.6 the missiles score a direct hit.

    To repeat behaviour, dl testscen,
run in 3.9.2 GE from Russia side
Fire Sturgeon missile at same target
Watch it overfly and miss by 1.4nm.

I've done no testing to see if this affects any other weapons or is related to the Northerly position of the target. Database used: PDB

Here is another bug I found while building a new scen

    Nuclear sub stops on surfacing

A nuclear submarine on plotted mission, with orders on one of the waypoints to surface and continue at 10 knots; will actually surface and stop on that waypoint. In 3.6 in the same scenario the sub will travel at 10 knots on the surface.

    Steps to reproduce
    load testscen in 392 SE
    watch from Russia side
    start clock
see how the Typhoon class travels at -10m, then -20m (as water gets deeper)
at 5th waypoint Typhoon stops. That waypoint orders sub to 00meters and 10 knots.
