Thought some of you might be interested to see what it looks like on my desktop at high res - it's beautiful, IMHO.

Well, I was in the zoomed out view - you can certainly zoom in to reduce eyestrain, but I love to see as much of the map as possible at once.

I must confess after quite a few years of playing games mostly set in Europe, Asia and the Pacific it's gonna feel at bit odd staring at the sundered USA. It is a handsome map though.

Bo, I lived in WW2 games, but they, Gary and Joel went back further in time. I was never a Civil War buff, but I learned so much from this game, and became one...

As a kid, one of my first forays into military history was the old American Heritage Golden Book of the Civil War, with it's panaromic paintings of Civil War battle movements and tactics. I kinda feel like I'm going back to where it all started.

The American Heritage board game of the Civil War wasn't too great though.

One of the things I really like about the higher res is that if I set the map just right I can actually see from western Missouri all the way to New Jersey without having to scroll around.

Awesome job!

How do rivers work?

Is this like Forge of Freedom where they have to be moved upon and occupied?

For example, in some rivers I see little width-wise segmentaton lines. I also don't see the red state boundary lines extending into them. And at the middle left (is it Illinois?) I think I see a Union Ironclad in a river but not in a port?

There are minor rivers (no ships allowed), major rivers (transports and gunboats only) and deep major rivers (transports, gunboats, ironclads and cruisers). Heavy Artillery units can fire at ships in rivers and ships can bombard the guns. You can't cross major rivers with ground troops if there are enemy fleets in the river area.

Really looking forward to this - I have squeezed so much fun out of the WaW series, and seeing how the engine makes the move to the civil war will be interesting :)
