I've read the tuorial, but still can't figure out how to change the combat range of a unit in the scenario editor. How do I chage the range of a machinegun say, from 1 to 2 (or 3, etc)?

If you want a unit to shoot at ground units farther than one hex, you need to give it "Artillery" range.

Edit the SFType, then look for "Art Range" in Statistics 2 screen.

You will also need to define the Artillery "Pow" values in the combat parameters.

When I open the scenario editor and click on SFType, I see the stats boxes, nut it appears I can't click on them to change them. How do I open the editor so that they are clickable?

You need to disconnet the masterfile first. Under "Settings" select "Masterfile" then hit cancel on the dialog that appears. Now you can edit ANYTHING, so be careful.... but have fun.
