1st post: Hi everyone This is a great forum; have been snooping around for some days reading some of the topics. As for SPWAW, well having a lot of fun and my men have a tough time, my infantry skills need some practice. My wargaming experience mainly consisted from panzer general I/II/3-D, where the infantry were mainly hanging in the back of the army or shot to pieces. I sure hope they have better luck this time. Just started a new wwII long campaign (v 7.1beta after a few crashes in v7.0), as the germans. Against the advise in the tactical primer (wonderful document, thanks), i opted for a medium size force; 3x mech inf, 3x tanks (2x anti-tank, 1x support), 3 88aa/at guns, 3 150 sig inf guns (both with trucks) and a hq whit 2 inf+ 2scout units as general reserve. In my previous campaign attempt i found the battles to long (2-3 hours for advance or assault missions), now the are about an hour and even on the small map i have room to move around. If you like i make some AAR (will do too if you dont). I will play about 1 to 2 missions a day, depending on the kind of mission and the time at hand. (for the ones wondering; i have to study for a test and spwaw is a nice way to take my mind of institutions and government organisation/management). 9/39 Poland mission 1(yesterday): delay, weather sunny and nice. The map shows forest and hills on both sides with a nice shallow valley in the middle. Should be easy and proves to be. Though the massive inf sq storming forward still can give me a good scare. Btw at this moment with 6 88aa/at, 3 of them will be changed for inf-guns at first opportunity. Polish reckon cars and tp-7’s proof to be an easy target and are gone by turn two. The grunts take some more time and even kill one reckless pzIIIe (don’t use tanks to look over ridges). Around turn 12-14 the polish are gone or retreating. The map reveals that they still had about 40 machinegun sq’s behind their line. Btw, concerning preferences, im playing without c&c, mines and reduced squats, medium battles (but i might set them to hard in the future) 10/39 Poland mission 2: advance, weather sunny and nice. Hills and forest, could be anywhere in eastern/central Europe. 3 of the 88aa/at are exchanged for 155mm sig’s, along with prime movers (something-11) instead of the original trucks also 1 platoon (? Still have to figure out the correct names) mech inf are exchanged for eng. (with flamethrower). My new platoon of eng take the only objective in the north, the rest take the central and southern objective, well most of it. The armies meet right on the centre en southern objectives, both on overgrown hills. Both are not in spot where tanks or other big guns are of any use and it takes a few turns to get my men in the right place. The tanks are right behind my inf for support. The northern objective gives no problem, the two polish units rushing in are ripped to pieces (1x po gun sup hq 1x recon car). Around turn 8 the main resistance in the south is broken and my hq and support go on a scouting mission to the eastern objective. They only find some machine gun sq’s, no place for my hq so they just watch as my inf and tanks slowly clear the last po inf sq’s. An other easy win. Btw2; i hardly use my support points, at best i buy some art. Pref. 105 or 150mm 5/40 france mission 1: river defend, sunny again. Just sit back and accumulate experience. Well almost one of the 4 objectives to defend is on the other side of the river. This could become a problem, i have no means to get over the river and no points for reinforcements (barrage carrier). The exposed objective is on the north end of the map with a nice amount of open space behind it (France side of the river). Well we will see what happens, i putt some of mu big guns on the north end and hope for the best. But the French chose the centre and southern route to the river (through forest, i don’t blame them). At turn 14 they give up, with all objectives still in German hands... I lost one man (hq) in an effort to give my leader some target practice (which he/they badly need, even rubber rafts proof to be to difficult to hit). 6/40 france mission 2: advance/french counter attack, night, vis 13; 75% map: this one i will start tonight. Paris is in the centre of the map, 3x neutral v point on my side (east) of the map, and one (french) far to the south-west in a small forest. Another platoon of inf had been upgraded to eng. The 88aa/at and sig 155 are on two hills east of paris, hq and support are on the northern end, 2x eng are ready to make a run ad paris and the rifle sq and tanks are in the south right under paris. Didn't use any of the odd 600 support points. Well i hope you like it :D, at least i got to practice my English
