I don't know about the rest of you, but a good wargame is worth it's weight in gold. I have played many RPG's, shooters, and all other forms of games out there. Typically these games go for $40 - 50, which isn't bad considering that's what I paid 10 years ago for a PC game. However, these games are now collecting dust on a shelf or are in a box in my basement. Now let's look at PACWAR and WIR. I have been playing these games for as long as they have been in existance. These are old DOS based games for crying out loud! Yet, they still are very enjoyable. Soooo... If it cost me $80 - 100 for a well researched, put-together game, it's worth it! There is nothing on the market that I know of that is close to PACWAR in terms of scope and content. The market for hard-core wargames is smaller than others, so there is some risk to the game makers. I say to MATRIX and any other company that trys to market wargames: make me a good wargame and I will pay for it. I can't wait for the upcomming Pacific wargames....

I agree that for a good game cost isn't really an issue. However, why not keep the initial cost about where it is now, but provide upgrades/bug fixes based upon info received from those of us that play the game for a minor fee...say $5 - 10 per upgrade. Then we can see the value for our dollars. This is what all the major software programs do.

I don't mind paying for upgrades but bug fixes should be free. If they made a mistake they should correct it. I'd like to see a company get the game right first. That's most important to me and I'd pay a higher than normal price for it. I'm not overwhelmed by graphics after all how good were the graphics in boardgames. I'd pay for graphic upgrades (if my graphics card could handle it) and add-ons later. I don't know if it is possible to do it this way.

Never seems to amaze me when a friend tells me "I beat such and such a game" I have no interest at all in spending 45 plus dollars for a game that can only be played once. Even if you calculate out the dollar per hour of amusement and arrive at a sum that seems fair...well all I can say is, good wargame can be played indefinitely. Most of my friends scoff at my "boring, uninteresting graphics wargames". But well, SP has been out since 95 or so, and its no less the game. I have a number of wargames that fit that description "been around since 95 or so, and still every bit as good". I will pay good money for a wargame. I wont pay for anything else. Maybe that will offend the copyright demons among us, but I have yet to see a non wargame worth paying for yet. If a friend can get me a copy of some marginally interesting game, I might indulge it. To me by the way, "wargame" is a term I reserve for turn based historical setting simulations. Anything else is just an arcade game.

I couldn't agree more with all of the comments here. Just two things to add: 1) with the wargame provide an excellent map/scenario editor and allow for customization, ie allow the player to make more counter sets with different graphics. 2) make a wargame strategic in scope that takes production, strategic bombing, etc into account.
