Looks more like a really heavy case of shore bombardment-itis. Certainly not an ASW attack.

Is this a PBEM? Perhaps you have synch problems?

Did you recently have a TF run into a mine field?

Obviously a load of depth charges (ASW) were delivered to hex 59,51 where the ship carring the DC's exploded sinking all the other ships in the harbor, damaging the airfield, destroying A/C, and troops. This happen just as two allied A/C were passing over the harbor, thus being destroyed.

It's all so simple.

Sometimes stuff like this shows up with carryover from ships sinking at the beginning of the turn... so, if a TF with the CVL Chitose got smacked last turn, and sank this turn, this kind of stuff might show up.

Well there are some bits I understand.
- The game is against the Japanese AI. It overloaded Chitose with too many aircraft making it an easy sinking.
- The allied losses I think must have been training related operational losses - the only P63 units are inactive Soviet units on training.
- The other ships are probably ships sunk earlier in the turn by airstrikes, they might have appeared in the message logs as the turn progressed.
- Then the troop loses would have been from a merchant ship sinking

Still no idea but the ASW description though. Maybe I'm too upset about sinking Hibiki to think straight.

Even in my very limited experience I have seen bizzare things appear in ASW combat reports such as even befrore a listing of the forces involved it includes a message that such and such a pilot has bailed out or been killed when no planes are involved.

As rtrapasso said, this is a known bug, where losses that occured previously are actually reported during and ASW attack.  It's just rare to losses of that magnitude.  IIRC casualties due to damage caused by mines frequently is reported in ASW combat.

And that explains everything .... but maybe those ships were sunk by waves ?
