It is my understanding that this upgrade should be unzipped to the general sound folder for main SPWAW program and not in the sound folder within the LV megacampaign folder. Is this correct?

Thanks,

Just a word of clarification here: I don't have sound files of any kind within the Mega Campaigns folder or any of the the separate MC folders.

AFAIK, none belong there - they should all go in the "Snd" directory. Would be most interested if there is a different opinion on this!

Thanks for the response Warhorse.

A word to Bing........not sure why i have an "SND" file within the LV folder....but i do. Interestingly, the sound files within the folder are all the "spoken words" associated with the LV introduction (i.e. the gentleman speaking english with a german accent). The sound files do not appear to affect the game at all.

So, just to clarify, you are saying that ALL sound files belong in a single folder within the main SPWAW program. Incidently, i am sure i have snd folders inside the Watchtower and North Africa megacampaign folders too.

I think you have duplicate sound files, though I will defer to the WAW technical experts on this point.

I do not have sound files of any kind in any of the MC folders, they are all in the "Snd" directory, where I believe they ought to be. Dupes may not hurt performance but they can't help any, either. They do occupy what might be valuable HD space.

Here is a direct copy of the entire text from the Patch-MCLV-Sounds.txt file, from the zip file of the same name:

"This is a simple patch to improve the sounds in mega Campaign-Lost Victories 1941. Simply unzip the files into your Steel Panthers World At War\SND folder. They will overwrite the older files. Allow them to do that. Then you are ready to go."

You can see where the designers intend the sound files to go. My MC sound works perfectly well, with all of the wav files in the "Snd" directory.

Thanks Bing......sounds like i should move all my sound files to a single sound folder in the main SPWAW program.

Make sure it is the right one - or you may not have any sound at all.

You can check for dupe files the usual way, via Windows search and use of wildcard * - that way if the extensions have somehow been changed, you can still find the file. Just drop the file extension and substitute the * - if you have a dupe in the Snd dir, you don't need to copy over.

In fact, if you have a newer identical file in the Snd dir, you probably don't want to overwrite it. Be careful out there ....
