I am having problems in my CHS 2.08 game.

I have good supply in the home islands. Plenty of Oil and resources. Using the WITP tracker I have a Res +/- of 28 days. I have 787 Nakajima Engine factories and only 525 are being used. Yet my pool is and has been "0" for a while now. I didn't really notice it yet but now I am running empty on all aircraft that use nakajima engines!

I am supposed to be getting at least 2 Helens a day...and I have gotten 1 in the past 4 days! None of my aircraft are set for "Replacements on".

Can someone tell me somewhere I can check or a screen shot of something else to post, this is really impacting my ability to play!

At the beginning of the game you need a lot of Naks. Your not producing enough to keep up with the production of aircraft that use them. Consider halting aircraft production somewhere to give your Nak production time to catch up.

Engines and airframes require HI points and it is usually this that keeps you from full production. As you do not need a great deal of merchant shipping, turn off 75% of merchantyards and turn off all AK and AP that you can. You will see a rise in the production of aircraft.

Well I think I found the problem. I wasn't paying attention to any of the HI outside of the Home Islands! I didn't realize there was 1000's of HI located around the map and all of that HI had no Oil or resources!

So I have shut down all merchant shipping and now have pretty much every AK and TK on the map reshuffling my resources. So hopefully in a couple of weeks all will be well. Thanks for all the advice.

Yeah, keeping all those HI in supply is a challenge. The key ones are Shanghai, Takao, and basically all the ports in Korea. Bangkok, Saigon, and Haiphong will start with small HI as well. Keep in mind you will capture HI in the Manilla, Hong Kong, and a few other places I can't recall offhand.

I'm finding that small 2-3 ship convoys work best, its just a matter of send it here this time, then there the next. I use these out of the Borneo resources bases to supply the smaller HI in Indochina, Phillipines, China and Malay. I use big convoys from Kendari, Kuala Lumpur, Palembang, etc to supply the HI and Korea.

My system may not be perfect, but it is at least keeping the HI growing and I'm not having production problems.

Make sure you are repairing all your Oil and Resources too, or at least a good chunk. And find all your resource centers.

In general I have found (and others may know better)

SE Asia: Needs Oil, has Surplus Resources
DEI: Surplus Everything
Formosa: Needs Oil, Needs Resources
China: Needs Oil.
Hong Kong: Needs Oil, Needs Resources
Sakhalin: Needs a little of Oil and Resources, small plant there
Home Islands: Needs Everything. Don't dismiss resources, you need ALOT in the Home Islands.

Very good advise, especially the part in bold. I'm finding I'm having no troubles keeping oil levels up in HI bases, but the resources aren't nearly as easy.

That's why WitpTracker is such a nice addition. I can see what the Oil and Resource situation is everywhere with a few clicks on the "Industry" tabs and know that the Home Islands have "x' days worth of Oil or Resources. Then when Hong Kong has only 9 days left of Oil and I need to send in a small TK (6,000) worth of Oil to keep her HI running smoothly.

Well I am using WiTPTracker now, but I'm still having the problem of actually having enough escorts to get the resources from point A to point B with at least some measure of safety. I really hate sending out unescorted merchant ships.

WiTPTracker is definately a usefull utility for the Japanese player.

I use PG/PC as escorts almost exclusively and don't find I'm lacking. One is good for a small convoy and two or three for a big one.

HeHe

Only 3 PG's for a Big one..

I dont know if im missing something, but anyways, I use a bit more... For example for my Main Tanker Convoy i use:

10 DD
15 PG/PC
2 AV (With Jakes for ASW)
3 CL (the slow old class only doing 18 knots)
4 MSW

And Tankers Enugth to Transport 450 000 OIL.

This Convoy Goes Palmanbang -> Tokyo

And there is a Smaller Convoy who goes Brunei, Tarakan, Balikapapan, -> Palmanbang

Every time the 450 000 Tanker Convoy Arrives back at Palmanbang, there is 500 000+ Oil there for it to pick up.
It will go on Non Stop like this for the rest of the game, or untill prevented if that happands.
Now in September 1942.

Yes ... good protection on that Large TK TT.
But are you operating like one of the few dodgy taxi drivers out there?

In Stock/BB1.4 Palembang has 700 OIL Wells.
So will produce 700*6 = 4200 oil/day (I don't think it gets extra - but have been known to be wrong!)

So to create 450,000 Oil = 450000/4200 = 107 days to produce ...

Does it take you 107 days to complete the round trip?

If so, I want to argue about the fare ...

It doesn´t take him so long to complete the trip from Palembang to Tokyo but as he mentioned he brings the oil from Tarakan, Brunei and Balikpapan to Palembang also...

Waiting for this reply ... just thought I'd add some humour, while being completely wrong...

The other 700 from those three ports of call would halve the time (50days)... can I still argue with the Taxi driver ???

If he's going with the large convoy system, then he can drop off TKs at Brunei, Miri, and then end at Palembang. He stops and picks them up on the way back. It also helps to expand any Oil center's port size to max to speed up the loading process.

NoNo Sir, but you forgot the Vital Part.

From Palmanbang i dont only transport the OIL Palmanbang Produse, I also mantioned this:

"And there is a Smaller Convoy who goes Brunei, Tarakan, Balikapapan, -> Palmanbang"

So, from Palmanbang with the 450 000 OIL Convoy, I in fact transport ALL the OIL from the SRA to Japan.

The Roundtrip takes little over a month, and on those 50 Days, i ensure you it has "grown" alot of OIL at Palmanbang, and been Unloaded alot from the Convoys going Brunei, Tarakan, Balikapapan, -> Palmanbang...

Big.B i playu, but dont think it has changed any noticeble things in the Oil Industry..

Good post. One addition, I beleive the ultimate limitation on Japanese Production is ultimately RESOURCES, not OIL. In other words, you can keep expanding all your industry, and barring conquest of Australia or India, you will run out of Resources before running out of Oil. Resources are the production bottleneck.

In my current game I actually fixed them FIRST, because of that, and also figuring the supplies they generated could then be used to fix the OIL.

As a General rule I like to have 1 escort per 2 merchants, with a minimum of 2 escort ships. Just a lot of times 2 MSW/PG/PC doesn't cut it, and I have a lot of convoys out there.

And of course in the first part of the game, I have a lot of escorts tied up on amphibious operations. And a lot of those are sitting in ports repairing, and a few of them have been turned into artificial reefs at this point.

I probably need to shift some away from amphibious operations to convoy escort, but I'm still running quite a few operations. Tough decisions ahead.

If you do your ASW properly, you will rarely have issues with subs doing major damage to your convoys. I escort truly valuable convoys like amphibious or troop transports much more heavily with DDs and PCs.

A proper ASW plan is the primary tool for keeping your oil/resource supply line flowing, not escorting convoys.

I have to agree with the Martian on this one. I do port to port shipping with no escort. I have many hunterkiller groups that deal with the sub threat as it arises. In order to not make my convoy routes perdictable I set a way point and have the port set to home, in both directions. Also the use of Helens at the choke points(straits) allows me to reroute convoys around detected subs.
