I'm using patch 1.8.06 and it is now 11/9/42 and I'm playing the AI. About a week ago, Karachi fell to the combined might of the Imperial Army, Navy and Air force, securing India to the Japanese Empire. Just from Bombay and Karachi combined, I think I captured about 1.2 million supplies, so my rice cup is very full.

The DEI is a calm sea, which is disturbed just by the giant supply task forces ferrying resources to Japan. As for the center Pacific, the only major goal I took was Port Moresby and its surrounding islands (no, not the big island across the straight, yet), in which the AI served me most of its US/Australian capital ships piece meal.

Situation in China is also dire to the allies. The last Chinese strong holds are Kunming and Kweiyang, which will probably fall in under 2 weeks. They have another city up north, Sinning, but I let them have it, since it served me no purpose to conquer it and China has 18 units trapped up there.

The allied navy suffered heavy losses: 8 cvs, 1 cvl, 16 bs, 1 bc, 21 ca, 24 cl, 6 claa, an a huge ton of dd and ss. My losses amount to a few destroyers and the cve hosho. The IJN got a few scares and I still have a few major capital ships in dry dock or in severe need of one, but overall the kido butai force is intact and in fact I have a cv task force consisting of 6 cvs and 3 cvls anchored at truk.

Currently the score is 51784 to 7216.

So I'm beginning to wonder about what to do next. Burma and Southern Army resources are now mostly free to look at other theaters. Australia? The rest of the Pacific islands? Maybe awaking the Russian bear?

I never finished a witp game, so I'm wandering what to do next.

I still need more experience with the production system. This is the longest witp game I played and even though I did planned it from the start, I'm starting to notice some choke points.

Certainly playing into 1944 even against the AI can yeild valuable insight (most significantly on the scale of things past mid-1943 : every op is huge!).

Bear if you truely do wish to get a better handle on production before diving into PBEM, that your current game will be a (very) skewed teacher.  Having captured India and most of China, as you say, you're already swimming in supplies.  While for training purposes, you do want a learning curve that is forgiving, you might have created a situation that is "too forgiving", and liable to "teach" you bad habit for PBEM.

If you really do want to learn production for the purpose of playing PBEM, I hate to say it, but you might want to restart and this time, simply "play a good game" as Japan, and take it a little easier on the AI, in order to create a more challenging economy to manage.  That being said, there is still great utility to playing thru 1943, because as I indicated earlier, the scale of things becomes staggering, and it's often good to see just what can be done in 1944.

Now, if you really don't care about playing PBEM, one thing many AI players will do is to swap sides.  Frankly, you've created an almost (if not completely) untennable situation for the AI.  It litterally won't know what to do (esp with all of the UK units suddenly evaporating with India's loss).  You're likely to see some bizzarre and frankly stupid actions by the AI, because it really can't handle having any of the major capitols knocked out.  By switching sides, you'll learn alot and it will certainly be a challenging game given your description of the situation.  You won't learn anything about production (if you switch sides to Allies), but you will learn alot about digging yourself out of a hole, and gain a new respect for the "holy snikeys, the Allies get a ALOT of stuff in 1944!" (*you* probably -can- salvage the game for the Allies, even as beat up as they are, whereas the AI is basically beaten by your description).

Good luck!
-F-

The AI did provided some fun and challenge. The DEI and Philippines were steam rolled, but I did had a guadalcanal battle that almost sank zuikaku and shukaku. If they hadn't made it to Rabaul they would have been written off. And India was plenty of challenge, with lots of action around Colombo and Karachi. Prior to a naval bombardment, RADM Tanaka managed to get his battle fleet into Colombo harbor and put a few 18" shells in one of the british cvs anchored there and sink it. Or in the fight for Ahmedabad, which I had captured earlier on, I was running low on supplies and the AI did managed to bring enough fire power, but I was lucky to succeed a pincer maneuver and trap half of the allied forces in the India subcontinent there. Fresh supplies and the continuous pounding of 350-450 Japanese bombers did the trick, after a month and a half and they surrendered.

I might try a pbem game eventually.

One question does come to mind. There where INA divisions fighting with the Japanese that were initially recruited from the Indian personnel captured after the fall of Singapure. Does the game models them in anyway?

I don't believe they are in stock.  Maybe in a mod like CHS (altho I'm not sure if they're in there either), but I'm pretty sure they're not in stock.

Hey, if you're having fun, keep on truckin'! Go for Oz. If you want a bigger challenge, switch sides with the AI now.
