Ahhhhh!! after 3 attempts, my first win Felt so good I had to share.

Playing as CSA, normal, fog of war, and let the cpu handle my production.

WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO

Overall look at things

My 2 mutually supporting mobile defense forces circled

USA never got good generals going in the East. Poor USA generals vs Lee = Lee beats them all. Lee must have beat Pope 4 or 5 times(Perhaps the AI could think about changing generals after a number of losses in a row for ACs). I contained Ft. Monroe and concentrated on raiding it's supplies while Lee countered any advance. In early 63 I pulled back and gave up Manassas and went into a shell. Lincoln lost the election and that was it for any major push in the East out of the blue bellies.

In the West, USA moved into KY 1st turn and KY turned CSA state. I rushed to setup my main defense at Humboldt, Corinth, and Memphis. I also had a smaller force in mid KY to keep Grant honest by looking to push forward in weak areas. Grant never set foot inside of Memphis, although I contemplated abandoning it in 63 and early 64 as his numbers grew. I fell back behind the TN river in 63 and waited for Sherman. Mid 64 he took Chattanooga, but I crossed the TN just to the SW of him and stopped his advance dead in it's tracks. Sherman redistributed his force to stop me so I pulled back and just left a small garrison north of the TN river.

USA made 3 coast landings. One in northern FL that was stopped, one NO that was contained, and one in TX that was contained.

Bend but don't break defense and pushing back where the USA was weak or over extended...seems so easy writing it but it was one heck of a game. I'll have to have a crack at the Union next I suppose.

Congrats!

Somewhere in cyber-Richmond a marble statue of General Tedhealy is being dedicated.

Going by your map it doesn't appear the Union AI makes much of a push west of the Mississippi.

Ted,

Ahh...the satisfaction of the first win. After beating the Union on normal as the Confederates I have switched sides to get a feel for Blue gameplay. I'm early into the game but so much more to manage from the Union side and turns are longer. The biggest impact so far is the struggle to match the AC and TC Confederate leadership advantage. Fremont has to go ASAP.

I'll have to turn the front lawn of the white house into a cemetary and war memorial after posing for my statue

Yeah the first win is very satisfying. Specially when you finally 'get it' and start winning battles and you kinda sorta understand why

Very true regarding west of the miss, at least for this game. They actually had TC Butler in Springfield MO for the first year or more and scouted into AR nearly every turn the entire war but never attempted to attack my 2 inf and 1 arty in a fort. I think stalling Grant on the Mississippi may have had something to do with it though. All excess troops were given to him and mid KY.
