I just went to the developer's website and found they have the release date for AE sometime in August! I thought I read somewhere that it would be in the 2nd quarter. Oh well.

That's interesting... Considering that we don't have a website. Where's this from?

Looks like that bogus Polish website that somebody posted a link to some time ago. They also purported to know stuff that they really didn't.

I did a search on Google for "Henderson Field Designs" as they are listed (on Matrix Games AE page) as the developer of the game. The sixth result from the top lists Henderson Field Designs Video Game Developer. I clicked that link and it took me to a page on gamepressure.com Games Encyclopedia with an ad showing "Games by Developer". That's how I found it.

Okay, that's still nothing to do with us, and the "August 2008" date is nothing but a guess.

I hope it's bogus, why else would AE require a GF 7600 or better video card?

Yeah that would be a pretty specialized requirement ... and not one that would map to our reality.

But be aware ... it takes Matrix at least 30-90 days AFTER a game goes GOLD before it will be released ... so when you see the GOLD announcement ... you will know release will be soon ... until the GOLD announcement release is at least 2-3 months out. We are cranking hard ... but our major surgery to the AI has pushed out our internal timeframe to go GOLD ... and once we get the new AI working it will require testing ... so it will be a while before we go GOLD ... but still more than hopeful for this year.

You obviously missed the reference.

T posted a few things early in the piece that perhaps he shouldn't have and there were errr... 'suggestions' made that involved the application of heat!!

I was waiting hoping that we'd have an Origins surprise, but alas I have now come to the conclusion I'm wasting my time. Time to get my pbem opponent a turn! AE can come when it comes and I'll buy it but I'm not gonna hold my breath over it. I don't doubt the AE teams intentions but putting a fix on WiTp's AI doesn't strike me as a easy, simple or quick undertaking. If its September, I'll be surprised.By Christmas I'll be pleased. If its 1st or 2nd quarter 09' then I'm sure I'll be bitching with everyone else.

im taking this guys advice -im going slightly insane and prematurely grey checking here for an update every day - particularly with the news that its 3 months to go from when you say its done - really, really looking forward to this but i think the best solution is to go into hibernation and come out for a look at Christmas

Good call. The whole development team would have loved to have the thing released by now, but we're not going to deliver a product that doesn't work properly.

Does this mean it will work as good as WITP after release of better?

The goal is to make sure AE works as well (mechanically) upon release as stock WitP works today. We don't want to go back to WitP 1.0 again, but it's taking time with all the new stuff.

i think thats all anyone wants - the stupid thing is if i would have read in the early days 'AE to be released in Feb 09' i would have thought that was pretty cool, good luck to the developers and carried on with my Pbem - the summer release date, wherever it came from, just got me far too excited for a grown man!!!!! so, i wait

Really really depends on how the testing goes especially the AI testing.

The one thing that Terminus and others have nightmares about is a release like MOO3 what a AI disaster.

You give MOO3 too little credit; it was a COMPLETE disaster, not just an AI one...

is it the nature of the testing or the number of the testers? Would another 50 testers help?

Nothing to do with the number of testers.

Heh.

Some folks have been waiting for a computerised World in Flames game for almost 10 years now. (And the light finally, if dimly, appears down the tunnel for this one.)

One year for WiTP-AE is no sweat.

I am just hoping for a finished game when it comes.

Timing could have been better for me {out of work for the next 5-7 months and have been out since March}.  Would've been great to be forced to stay at home and have AE come out right then.

If someone wants to pay for three years of a post-doc or a PhD candidate, I'm willing to give them a decent AI.

Let's say neither was developed according to IEC 61508-3. So it's difficult to say. ;-)
