AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 06/05/43 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coastal Guns at Koepang, 28,77, firing at TF 1107 TF 1107 troops unloading over beach at Koepang, 28,77 Allied ground losses: 22 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coastal Guns at Koepang, 28,77, firing at TF 1109 TF 1109 troops unloading over beach at Koepang, 28,77 506 Coastal gun shots fired in defense. Allied Ships MSW Deloraine, Shell hits 2 Allied ground losses: 209 casualties reported Guns lost 3 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sub attack at 44,122 Japanese Ships SS I-178 Allied Ships DD Abbot, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage wow, 3 out of 6 torps hit my DD... not surprising that Abbot immediately sunk. Happened between Brisbane and Sydney, Abbot was going to Sydney for repairs... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Air attack on Lashio , at 35,30 Allied aircraft Beaufighter VIF x 14 No Allied losses Aircraft Attacking: 7 x Beaufighter VIF bombing at 2000 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Time Surface Combat, near Wasile at 41,69 Japanese Ships PG Daido Maru, Shell hits 2 AK Aden Maru AP Anyo Maru, Shell hits 5, on fire AK Genoa Maru AP Heiwa Maru, Shell hits 35, on fire, heavy damage AK Italy Maru, Shell hits 11, on fire, heavy damage AK Kamogawa Maru AK Kinugasa Maru AP Kuretake Maru AK Mantai Maru AK Nana Maru AK Nanman Maru AK Norway Maru AK Sinsei Maru AK Soyo Maru AK Syogen Maru AK Tamon Maru AK Tatsuura Maru, Shell hits 1 AK Toyama Maru AK Toyohasi Maru AP Shinyo Maru AK Teibo Maru Allied Ships CL Honolulu DD Bache DD Eaton DD Taylor huge tranport TF at Wasile. Strange composition with two APs in the TF. Don´t know if this TF was bringing troops in or if it just was a supply TF. Only two ships are in trouble and once again all our torps missed. The DDs used 60% of their torps. Torp hit rate of the IJN and the Brits in WITP is just too high, while hit rate of the USN is just too low. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coastal Guns at Koepang, 28,77, firing at TF 1107 TF 1107 troops unloading over beach at Koepang, 28,77 83 Coastal gun shots fired in defense. Reason is unknown for me, he can´t damage the airfield more than 100%. Still it´s an easy target for him as I don´t have enough flak there. This will change... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Amboina , at 39,73 Allied aircraft B-25C Mitchell x 64 F4U-1 Corsair x 18 Allied aircraft losses B-25C Mitchell: 1 destroyed, 15 damaged Japanese Ships AP Hikade Maru, Bomb hits 5, on fire, heavy damage AP Igasa Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage AP Batavia Maru, Bomb hits 3, on fire AP Koan Maru, Bomb hits 6, on fire, heavy damage AK Nittatsu Maru, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AP Enju Maru, Bomb hits 1 MSW Ataka Maru, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage Japanese ground losses: 16 casualties reported Port hits 2 Aircraft Attacking: 63 x B-25C Mitchell bombing at 11000 feet we spotted ships disbanded in port and launch a nice strike from Kai Island. Again I don´t know if those ships were damaged and therefor disbanded in port, but again, if they were damaged then I guess at least some of them could have been brought away from the front line already. Nice way to lose ships... If you lose ships en masse in late 44 or early 45 then it doesn´t matter, but IMO the ship losses of Hortlund are really getting more and more severe... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on 76th Chinese Corps, at 48,30 Japanese aircraft A6M3 Zero x 8 A6M3a Zero x 9 J1N1-R Irving x 1 Ki-43-Ic Oscar x 12 Ki-44-IIb Tojo x 36 Ki-45 KAIb Nick x 24 Ki-46-II Dinah x 1 Japanese aircraft losses Ki-45 KAIb Nick: 7 damaged Allied ground losses: 4 casualties reported Aircraft Attacking: 24 x Ki-45 KAIb Nick bombing at 2000 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 42,73 Allied aircraft Barracuda x 23 P-47C Thunderbolt x 13 F4U-1 Corsair x 23 Allied aircraft losses Barracuda: 6 damaged Japanese Ships CL Yubari CA Furutaka, Torpedo hits 1, on fire DD Ayanami CL Nagara, Torpedo hits 1 CA Chikuma CA Mikuma, Torpedo hits 1 Aircraft Attacking: 3 x Barracuda launching torpedoes at 200 feet This big cruiser TF took position one hex North of Sorong, so only 4 hexes away from Babo´s airfield where I´ve got Corsairs, Thuds and Barracudas (torp range 5!!). Don´t know what he was up for but I guess my Barracudas disturbed his plan... All I can think about is a bombardment of Babo or Kai Island but in both cases the cruisers would be in range of my torp bombers BEFORE they can move in as in the best case it´s (for the IJN) it´s 5 hexes for my torp bombers whereas it´s still 6 hexes for the ships to close in to my bases as they have to move around and island... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Kiska Island , at 92,35 Allied aircraft SBD Dauntless x 14 P-39D Airacobra x 119 PV-1 Ventura x 12 No Allied losses Airbase hits 2 Airbase supply hits 1 Runway hits 41 Aircraft Attacking: 21 x P-39D Airacobra bombing at 2000 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 42,73 Allied aircraft Barracuda x 15 P-47C Thunderbolt x 12 F4U-1 Corsair x 23 Allied aircraft losses Barracuda: 8 damaged Japanese Ships CL Yubari, Torpedo hits 1, on fire CA Mikuma CL Nagara, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage Aircraft Attacking: 3 x Barracuda launching torpedoes at 200 feet I was already happy with my Barracudas in the am phase but to my surprise they took off also in the pm phase putting another two torps into the enemy cruisers. Nagara now takes her second torp and could be in trouble... My level bombers from Kai Island were set to port attack Amboina... exactly the wrong day it seems... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Homan Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 73936 troops, 972 guns, 12 vehicles, Assault Value = 1797 Defending force 91928 troops, 506 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2314 Allied ground losses: 232 casualties reported Guns lost 1 losses are only within my HQ units in the lead. I´m already thinking about moving them out... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Ichang Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 83061 troops, 958 guns, 14 vehicles, Assault Value = 1748 Defending force 67795 troops, 378 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1685 Allied ground losses: 32 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Yenen Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 43902 troops, 460 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 800 Defending force 78590 troops, 453 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2082 Allied ground losses: 8 casualties reported Guns lost 1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Koepang Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 22508 troops, 271 guns, 6 vehicles, Assault Value = 518 Defending force 57857 troops, 617 guns, 5 vehicles, Assault Value = 972 Allied ground losses: 19 casualties reported Guns lost 1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Koepang Allied Bombardment attack Attacking force 4006 troops, 129 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 972 Defending force 33878 troops, 361 guns, 6 vehicles, Assault Value = 518 as you can see in the screenshot, there are 5 AA units at Koepang and this is what I was always talking about. No wonder this base puts up a flak defense like Berlin in mid 44... But the composition of LCUs here also makes me optimistic to take Koepang faster and with fewer troops than Babo which had a similar assault value while I nearly had two times as many av. I will soon order a deliberate attack which probably will take out A LOT of the AA guns as the AA units are the ones in the lead in the troop stack and are therefor the ones who will get hit the most. Then it will be the time to fly daily air to ground attacks with my Mitchells which will most of the time hit the division which will lead to a high disruption of this unit. As this is the only high assault value unit here, a disruption of 70% of this unit will result in only some 200 assault points left for the defender. This is my theory! We will see, I´ve got three more RCTs prepped for Koepang which I could bring in within 8 days. Note that I have brought a lot of heavy artillery but all those 155mm guns are doing nearly no damage. This once again shows me that it´s just not necessary to bring art units in an invasion. I would have been far better off to use those ships that brought the artillery to bring TK units. TK units are the ones who cause the most damage to the enemy while they take not many casualties and even with 50% disablements, they are 100% combat ready in no time again. EDIT: graphic upload is impossible due to the borked forum change at the moment. The Matrix forum works as good as WITP worked in the first two years...
