hi there,

i have the pleasure to play the underdog against the migh of the USN..against jamie. i just opened a little sushi restaurant in rabaul but jamie does not like raw fish and wants to demolish the sushi bar and place a "burger king" there. although i like the whopper, i can not allow that he poisons the poor natives at rabaul with his fast food. after all, sushi is healthier.

we are at the beginning of october 1942 now. i captured PM, GG and the solomon area and wait for the comming counterattack of jamie now. at the beginning, i lost 1 CV and a CVL to his carrier force and jamie lost several medium and heavy bombers.

beside that, the loses are light and espacialy my nells and bettys are still intact.

but enough words..here are the facts:

the situation in the solomon area:

the scoreboard:

and the lost airplanes:

Great fun Bigbaba! Hopefully you go on this way!!!!!!

One word of advice - beef up your roof with some heavy reinforced concrete... In order to keep your snack stall running when the Allied 4E BurgerBombers come in range

Burp.....mmmmm.....in the voice of Homer Simpson......
Burger King....Whopper.....

Gonna have to pay a visit to Rabaul soon....

As Bigbaba says, losses are fairly light so far.

He destroyed 4 or 5 squadrons on the ground when he captured Port Morseby, and I came out ahead on the only carrier exchange we have had so far.

At this time, I am building up for the eventual counter-attack...unfortunately, this is a fairly boring period....

quiet days so far. recon flights and submarine contacts are not realy something exciting.

and so, my troops chill out at rabaul and try to win the natives for the emperor.

impressions from rabaul:

the new camouflage technique of our troops. even the a modern army can learn new things from the natives. we will place this between palm trees at the beach to increase the confusion. you never know..is it a harmless tree or is it a samurai?

Wow - This is what I call a bold attack! Your AirOps Commander deserves a special serving of your very best Sushi along with some Sake! Not too much of the latter in order to keep him "operational"...

How the heck do you manage to attack an 8 ship TF with 157 torpedo planes and skate away with only three damaged planes? Were the flak gunners out to lunch?

I'm playing a solitaire game as Japanese to get some practice for my game against Jamie as the Japs and when I send torpedo bombers out they get eaten alive by the American flak with 40-60% losses. I'm lucky if 10-15% get through the flak.

hmm, maybe the number of the attacking planes simply overwhelmed the flak? more targets mean lesser fire concentration.

there are several air HQ in rabaul..the pilots have high moral and low fatigue and each level bomber daitai has 10% of its planes on naval search.

maybe that plays a role.

anyway...jamie is striking back as you see above. and i have realy problems to keep PM supplied because of his total air dominance south of PM. any suggestions except rising the white flag?

when i lose PM, the anglo-american barbarians will be able to attack the sushi-bar at rabaul what would cost us the war because a japanese soldier can not fight without sushi in his stomach.

Saratogo is a tough lady. I would expect 10+ Sys and flooding below 30. The flooding will be reapiered in a couple of days and within two weeks she is under 10 Sys.

Like you said....one fish into the side of Saratoga is not the end of the world. While I would have preferred not to have been the recipient of the sushi "special of the day", she is holding up well and is still on station...

Yep....It would appear that your long range cap is very effective against my carrier air...well...what used to be my carrier air. I wonder why they would have even flown into that much cap?

maybe they belived the allied propaganda, that the japanese are "running on empty" and have green pilots.

anyway..this turn, jamie managed to damage 4 troop transporters with his remaining carrier planes. the CAP was resting after 2 days of intense flight.

The Japanese ability to project LRCAP over huge distances in this game is so severely overmodeled it borders on a joke. It's the single most abused capability in the entire game.

ps Ralf, stop trolling the boards and get your turn done and off to me please.

@hans:

remember, that every operational fighter was flying the CAP. thats nearly 400 fighters and all pilots were well rested and experienced with 99 moral. also, the air battles location was right at the half of the normal range of the A6M2 at a point between GG, lae and rabaul and not at GG.

also, they didnt fought against allied level bombers (the japanese CAP sucks here) but against single engine navy planes which are easier to shoot down.

and finaly, the pilots got a extra ration of sushi before takeing off. this "light food" did not hindered them in the fight.

never underestimate the power of:
