Wow....it finally happened...something on Matrix that actually INTERESTS the GF Unit.

She would like to know what kind of event this is......we don't usually shoot guns while jumping at our barn...nor would i want to be on her horse whilst doing so.

Here's one of me taken a few years ago, introducing my first boy to hiking. Got three kids, all under 5, now. Which explains why I have so little time for WitP (or many other things recreational) these days...

Baby Brown does not look convinced about the hiking. That is possibly the most skeptical baby I've ever seen

Hmm, lets see, 3 kids all under 5. WitP have been around 4 years. Sounds to me like you've been spending too little time with WitP.

Where-abouts was that picture taken? I teach high school earth/space science and I'm a bit of a geology buff, so I'd be interested in learning some more about that escarpment behind you. Some serious uplift occured there at one time.

I was going to guess the Blue Mountains. The background reminds me of our trip there three years ago.

It is not far from the Blue Mountains, and it is similar terrain. So you made a good guess.

This is me during my 1997 Deployment to Misawa, Japan with VP-46.

Chez

I would have been MORE impressed if that was a WitP map behind you. Close enough though!

Boy I used to dress like that back in the Regan years. Except I had dolphins on. So how was Japan in 97?

I liked Japan... after I got used to driving on the wrong side of the road! Northern Japan is very scenic and it was fun to drive through the countryside. Farming over there is definitely a bit different than what you see here!

We did a lot of cross-decking with the Japanese P-3 squadrons in Hachinoe. We had some great times and more than once I felt the effects of saki.

The bad part was that we flew on more allied subs than we did Russian. Chasing a Japanese diesel in the Sea of Japan is a tad more difficult than playing with Oscars and Akulas in mid-Pacific!

All in all, not a bad place to deploy... certainly better than Keflavik, Iceland or Diego Garcia!

Chez

I think AB's youngin' looks a little like Winston Churchill, the greatest man of the last century, I think.

BTW, despite what some of the other cretins on these forums seem to think, the AB map is good.

Wait, does that mean I'm a cretin, too?

Dang it!

Can't tell you about the latest Russian subs as I have been out of the business for ten years now. The most modern Soviet/Russian submarines I flew against were Oscars and Akulas and while they were a greater challenge than Victors or Deltas, they were still much easier to find and track than US subs.

Yes, the Russian Pacific Fleet had/has diesels.. Kilos at Vladiostok IIRC.

Actually I really enjoyed the job. It was important, it carried a lot of resposibility and I had a knack for it. To me, it was like going deer hunting every time I flew except that I was hunting man not animals. I'm just thankful that I never had to use my skills in a shooting war.

The closest I thing to war ever experienced was during search and rescue operations for the victims of the Korean Airline flight 007 shot down near Sakhalin Island. It seemed like the entire Soviet airforce was airborne every time we flew and they weren't messing around.
