I made changes to factories and resources and supplies on the Union side and now when I start the game I have no officers on either side and no ships of any type.

Any idea what I should look for as the culprit?

Sure glad there are knowledgeable people on this board to help. And the excuse for no Mod program is? I obviously put something somewhere in the wrong order or added to much of something somewhere.

Of course finding it with the text file system is so easy and fun. And as we can see no one here has a clue. Thanks for all thte help guys, I will remember in the future when modding and I have a problem not to ask any questions.

Maybe if you showed an ounce of patience or maybe if you actually posted what you had changed...

You didnt even care to post the actual code you had changed (maybe using a document compare utility) so what exactly did you expect anyone to tell you except that you probably made some mistake?

Start by making one small change - see if that works. Add a few more changes - see if those work. Keep adding. Suddenly you find the mistake you made - or you dont make the same mistake and everything works. Alternatively, you have found a bug.

I did in fact post what I changed, or are you incapable of reading. And I have been very patient. Where were you 3 days ago?

I know very well how to trouble shoot, I used to be an electronics technician. However if you have ever opened these text files you would know what I am asking about.

Obviously when I made a change somewhere by adding something I put it out of order, but since there is NO definition for us what order is aceptable I am stuck with asking if anyone KNOWS that order. Without any idea what the order is I can not trouble shoot anything.

I can start over and try again. I personally was hoping someone would know what to check so I wouldn't have to do that.

But hey thanks for the input.

You are being rude and asking where I was 3 days ago when you only posted 2 days ago only goes to make your case worse.

If you know how to trouble shoot then you also know that when you ask for help you need to a) provide details (which you failed to do as you didnt post exactly what and how you changed things), b) show a bit of patience (which you also failed by snapping 2 days after your request for help) and c) to be polite (another failure).

Anyway, lets try once more from the top to actually fix your prolem. Please zip the file(s) you have edited and attach them to a post then I will see if I can spot any mistakes. I do have quite a bit of experience with editing these files and I also have access to the source code to check what may be going wrong if the error isnt obvious.

Twotribes,

Your initial query didn't provide nearly enough info for anyone to comment intelligently. If you'd like specific help, give us some idea of what specifical was changed. Ideally, post the changed files. In any case, modding is always an activity undertaken at your own risk, we can't guarantee to resolve any issues created through modding or to always have an answer to support a mod-caused bug.

Regards,

- Erik

two tips, one for modding, one for life

modding: always make a backup.  if you break it and cant figure out why,  revert to the backup.

life: pull the stick out of your ass

No problem, you don't want to help thats fine with me. Claiming I did not provide enough info as an excuse for never responding is hilarious.

But I kind of expected it.

I mean we have all this fountain of info on modding provide in the manual and on this board to go by.

Yeah, about the same amount of info you get on customizing when buying a standard car. Since when is modding support something to take for granted in a manual?

And the words "chill down" come to mind...

I find it hilarious that I am being told I did not provide enough information. How many files would I go to to change the information I listed? Why, look, JUST one. Noe there are several Region files but they are for different scenarios. And the information in each is IDENTICAL when one wants to know about FORMAT and order of commands and situations.

I ask a simple question in hopes of finding the ORDER of the file in question, in order to aid me in trying to figure out what is out of place in numerous changes to A SINGLE txt file.

Maybe Eric doesn't know how the files are set up, The rest of you have been smart asses attacking me for posting a request for help and then being irritated no one could bother posting anything for 3 days ( you know FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY)

Thanks for all the help you trolls.

Ok, let's see then:

That tells me you edited some file, probably regions61.txt - not definite since you don't provide a file name. What did you edit? Who knows, but probably at least some entries for the union regions. What did you change? Probably at least the numbers after "UNIT,RESOURCE," and "UNIT,FACTORY," respectively, but who knows? Since you didn't state any of this. (Note: this is my first look at these files. So I can only give you the obvious coder tips on what to check for like missing commas, spaces where there shouldn't be any, misspellings etc).

If you want someone with better knowledge to help you, I would guess you would be more fruitful in your attempts if you:
1. simply provide info on what you have done in what files - heck, maybe even copy and paste the edited file into the message!
2. try to avoid getting agitated for lack of replies during the weekend. After all, a lower forum activity - specifically from any Matrix ppl - is to be expected.

But again, what does a troll know? Anyway, good luck - I'm out of here, chillin'.

Where the heck are you getting "you don't want to help" from my post asking you to attach the file(s) you have edited so I can figure out what you did wrong? If you just want to complain then go ahead - but if you want help then post the file.

perhaps you should reinstall the game then pose some questions about what it ia you want to do. You never know what will happen when you change things in a game. Code in games can react in unexpected ways when changed.
